they need protien foods to, walnuts, chicken, boiled eggs, they can eat what you eat just no seasons on their foods, plain white cuttle bone you can buy for .99 in the bird food aisle, calcium sand is a yummy treat they liketo eat to, a lot of that so called hermit crab food you buy in the stores isn't good for them.

Nice setup, I'm thinking of getting some hermit crabs for pets. I have a betta fish right now, and love pets, but i can't have furry ones because i have severe allergies and asthma :( These guys are kind of cute though :)

You are my inspiration and your videos are amazing! :) I am getting 2 or 3 hermit crabs at the end of the summer (found out at my local petsmart it will cost about $150 to get EVERYTHING you need to care for a hermit crab)I dont know if I should get 2 or 3 hermit crabs (the more the merier) and I dont know what I should name them so I was wondering if you had any ideas for hermit crab names? thanks :)

@h7baby07 Most of the shells i have, my grandmother and I collected along the beach when I was little, we kept a collection. There were some amazing shells at that beach.

you could have used a wire cage and when it show signs of molting put it in a big bowl and put sand,water,saltwater,and food. then when it done molting you can put it back in the wire cage

@pizzapieman97 You don't REALLY need a seperate place to molt, but if you really want to you can get another tank like a 10 gallon, put a lot of sand in it and keep your hermit crab in that. You will still need to have the same water, food, etc. availaible for it though.

@Snak3Crazy Did you rescue them from the beach? If so they are more than likely to die. If you got anything from the beach it needs to be decontaminated. Shells can be boiled for about 20 minutes in a pot which will clean them and then you can put them in your tank and sand can be baked in the oven for an hour or so. Even doing this the sand still may contain mites and germs so it is best to buy from a pet shop. Apart from the fresh water you MUST have it aside. Tap water contains chlorine, BAD.

good job, i know a lot of people, including pet stores who don't know a thing about hermit crabs, and i also have the hermit crab fruit salad, and they hate it. i'm glad someone other than me knows how to actually take care of hermit crabs. :)
