Fame! literally changed my life....nothing realer. IT inspired me, educated me and gave me a passport to my future....even today, it does the same. Its values are more needed now than ever before.
This song rocks! I did this with my High school chorus (in fact, I went to a high school like Fame becuse of the show). The Accapella portion is difficult, but they pulled it off effortlessly!
Great job, great movie!! The movie was realistic, the TV show really wasn't )
the first soloist is hot and good at singing and i have the same position with me middle school play production i hope i do better than her shes pretty good
Yes it was! Very powerful movie.Showed a lot of things young people struggle with that had never been dealt with before.I was 14 and I really really appreciated it for that.
When I watched this for the first time as a child, I got goose bumps. I nearly wore the VHS tape out from rewinding it and rewatching it over and over again. Of all the brilliant musical numbers in the movie, this is the most fantastic. Thank you for uploading this. <3
A great number and incredibly gritty film, Alan Parker swore he found Leroy (Gene Anthony Ray) dancing his magic on a street corner. Regarding re-makes, I think all contemporary re-makes e.g. fame, Italian Job, South Pacific should be made Crimes Against Humanity. When I saw Glenn Close doing Nellie Forbush I threw a bottle of wine through the 40" tele... It was the best TV I have had
@nigeldavenport hahaha.. u shoulda shot the tv when u saw glen as nellie!!!! i totally agree about remakes.. they all fucking suck.. esp the ones of the eighties movies
I will never forget the night I saw this back in June 1980 at the grand Ziegfeld theater in New York. After this song (end of the movie) the packed audience started screaming and cheering!! And then leaving the theater, the line for the next show went all the way down to 6th Av and around the corner !! Car horns were blowing, there was some guy on a megaphone announcing the next show was sold out, tickets for the midnight show would be on sale soon ... a very dramatic exciting experience
There was something real and truthful about the original Fame movie. It didn't try to sugarcoat the hardships and struggles of pursuing one's dreams. It may look a bit dated but the message is still there.
@fayenesse I Sing the Body Electric is a poem by Walt Whitman. it's saying "my singing makes my body electrified" which is kind of like saying that you can make your life anything you want it to be :)
Beyond superlative description, this is the last gasp of the days when people still consistently made good music. It made me happy and sad at the same time, seeing this. The 1980 version of the film was excellent, and this part, the graduation scene is a standout!
@bodkin1 I so agree with you there! I remember seeing it this ending and coming out of the theatre and remember seeing everyone smiling and looking so happy! It reminded me of a similiar experience after exiting the theatre after Rocky 1.
Bravo. It was hard not to see this movie as a young person and not come out of it with a sense of hope for the future. Thank you "ChuckNorrisBeatMeUp". By the way, I too was a karate student when I was of the "Fame" age and he was one of my heroes, as a talented symbol of the art.
@madvillan10685 The beauty of the movie is that not everyone is a professional Mtv-ready model/singer. These are normal people. Everybody got to sing a part even thought their talent may not be singing.
I can't believe this is 30 years ago! Where has the time gone??? Sigh. Anyway, this song is soo inspirational that it makes me feel like I'm on top of the world! This is one of the songs that made me want to become a singer and musician. Great melody, great arrangements, great vocals!
@PrincessSerena1121 I thought the remake was okay but it was nothing like the original. It was good compared to modern day standards but pretty pathetic when compared to the original movie. The songs and musical numbers were good though.
Just finished watching Fame for the first time, my only issue w/ it was that it provided little to no closure. I suppose that that couldve been the point, nothing was ever really solved between any of the characters, and so the viewer was left to imagine what occurs between the scenes and after the graduation.
@shamshamsham123123 That was the point. We don't know if any of these kids will make it, as viewers it's almost like we're experiencing what the students are. We don't know if anything will work out for these kids, nor do they.
@tigersrulehannah no kiddin', just saw the new one today and... well, yeah. it sucks. if you havnt seen the show, please do. that one is even better than the movie.
I will NEVER forget this song! I thought it was a shame that it did not become as popular on the radio as the title song FAME. Hey, I thought Fame was amazing but this was an embodiment of PURE JOY. BEFORE GLEE, BEFORE SISTER ACT (My favorite!) this was the movie that showed what people can do when they really show their talents. I LOVE the mix of classical, pop, choral, r&b into one beautiful composition! KUDOS to Composer: Michael Gore. Lyricist: Dean Pitchford! You've created beauty.
I like how the new movie tries to give the final song a positive message, even if it looks too professional for a high school to perform. Now that I've seen this. I'm blown away...
Great song, amazing how they can switch from symphonic to down 'n dirty rock & roll, plus a few other styles of music. I think they tried something like this later, in the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus", but without vocals.
This should have been included in the remake......significant and beautiful song!!
