  • This should have been included in the remake......significant and beautiful song!!

  • Sang this in Catholic school choir circa 1981. I thought the title was so crazy and didn't know what it meant. Didn't see Fame until years later.

  • wunderbarar Film :-)

  • This was the song they sang when I graduated from high school "way too many years ago"...lol! I find it very uplifting and motivating... Love this :)

  • Epic.

  • Fame! literally changed my life....nothing realer. IT inspired me, educated me and gave me a passport to my future....even today, it does the same. Its values are more needed now than ever before.

  • Thumbs up if you think this burns with 10 million more stars than the Fame remake ;)

  • This song rocks! I did this with my High school chorus (in fact, I went to a high school like Fame becuse of the show). The Accapella portion is difficult, but they pulled it off effortlessly!

Great job, great movie!! The movie was realistic, the TV show really wasn't )

  • NEEDS MORE COWBELL!

  • Man o man I had completely forgotten about this. What a great, great musical production. Goosebumps for me too.

  • How did we go from this heart-felt paean to youth's Faith, Fortitude & Fortune in "Performance Arts" to the current 'High School Musicals'?

    Don't ever knock the 80's kiddies! : p

  • the first soloist is hot and good at singing and i have the same position with me middle school play production i hope i do better than her shes pretty good

  • why am i hearing no sound???

  • @lilithmoon1979 volume must be down chief. i can hear it just fine :)

  • @CumInAsses LMAO... yep the volume was down!!! grins!

  • @lilithmoon1979 haha don't worry it's happened to me before too!

  • Yes it was! Very powerful movie.Showed a lot of things young people struggle with that had never been dealt with before.I was 14 and I really really appreciated it for that.

  • Sung this for HS chorus. Still in love with it 5 years later.

  • absolutely sure I am glad I am old enought to have seen Fame first time round!

  • love this song first time i heard it :)

  • I got goosebumps once Irene Cara started singing

  • I Cry too watching again!!! And even MUCH MORE!!! Aaaaaaahhhh

  • still brings tears to my eyes! incredible

  • My jazz class is doing a dance to this. I love this.

  • Sang this in HS choir several decades back!! Still gives me chills!

  • When I watched this for the first time as a child, I got goose bumps. I nearly wore the VHS tape out from rewinding it and rewatching it over and over again. Of all the brilliant musical numbers in the movie, this is the most fantastic. Thank you for uploading this. <3

  • I love this song. <3

we sing it in the choir and everyone loves it. ;)

    very well. thank you. :)

  • A great number and incredibly gritty film, Alan Parker swore he found Leroy (Gene Anthony Ray) dancing his magic on a street corner. Regarding re-makes, I think all contemporary re-makes e.g. fame, Italian Job, South Pacific should be made Crimes Against Humanity. When I saw Glenn Close doing Nellie Forbush I threw a bottle of wine through the 40" tele... It was the best TV I have had

  • @nigeldavenport hahaha.. u shoulda shot the tv when u saw glen as nellie!!!! i totally agree about remakes.. they all fucking suck.. esp the ones of the eighties movies

  • I've had the pleaseure of accompanying my chorus to this song. The accepella part of this song is incredibly difficult!!!! (Excellent song tho!! )

The movie was way better (and more realistic) than the television series!!!

  • At 1:47: Ouch...dissonant harmony. I wish she would just "hum" the Body Electric...

  • @sluggoII are you kidding? that is an amazing harmony.. epic

  • If Mr. Shorofsky is in the audience, then who is directing the orchestra?

  • Best high school graduation EVER!

  • Doris' mother is the reason why audience members are not allowed to use flash photography during performances.

  • My favorite 80's movie of all time. I wish I went to a high school like this. That's why I'm going to a college like it!

  • The remake didn't even come close to matching the EPIC-NESS of this ending number.

  • @mlazaru1 There was a remake?!

Glad that completely passed me by. Fucking heresy.

  • The original is always the best!!!

  • I also want to sing the body electric.

  • I will never forget the night I saw this back in June 1980 at the grand Ziegfeld theater in New York. After this song (end of the movie) the packed audience started screaming and cheering!! And then leaving the theater, the line for the next show went all the way down to 6th Av and around the corner !! Car horns were blowing, there was some guy on a megaphone announcing the next show was sold out, tickets for the midnight show would be on sale soon ... a very dramatic exciting experience

  • @MVR326 Awesome! :-)

  • @MVR326 that was wonderful thank u for sharing that memory with us!

  • @craneberryblue youre welcome. The lines might be long and the theaters crowded, but sometimes its fun to go to a major movie when it first opens

  • Lol one of the musicians names are: Boris Slutsky.

  • Miss the 80s this used to come on tv all the time Sunday movie, what a Classic:))

  • This song gives me the chills... in the BEST of ways.

  • BEST SONG OF THE MOVIE. XX

  • This is one of my favorite movies...the remake sucked!

  • There was something real and truthful about the original Fame movie. It didn't try to sugarcoat the hardships and struggles of pursuing one's dreams. It may look a bit dated but the message is still there.

  • @iw32 Just watched it (part of my DVD collection) love the 80's skyline during "Is it ok if I call you i mine?"

  • Right ON... SOUL, that is why it can not be replicated.

  • When this movie came out in 1980 I was 17 years old, I'll never forget how this ending gave me goosebumps...31 years later, same reaction.

  • @tonybklyn I was 12 and had the exact same reaction. This ending is epic and just amazing!

  • @tigersrulehannah AMEN TO THAT!!!

  • lol we sing this every year for graduation.

  • We did this song at my high school graduation in 1982. This video made me 18 again for a few minutes. THANKS!

  • =') beautiful song

  • This my grad song too

  • THIS IS MY GRADES GRADUATION SONG!!!!!! Uhhhhhh don't wanna go 2 middle skool

  • what the heck is a "body electric?"

  • @fayenesse I Sing the Body Electric is a poem by Walt Whitman. it's saying "my singing makes my body electrified" which is kind of like saying that you can make your life anything you want it to be :)

  • omg paul mccrane! I love this version!

  • Love it~

  • CONGRATULATIONS HINES & KYM <3

“...The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.

Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart”

    (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV)

  • The new version of Fame SUCKS!!!! I love this one.

  • We sang this song at my 8th grade graduation....Still love it after all these years

  • @jwjones967

I sang this song at my third grad graduation back then, but I didn't know why we had to sing it or where it came from. And now I know.

  • she's soooo baaaadl looking :(( heee tooo :(((

  • she's soooo baaaadl looking :((

  • Una joya de cancion y la película es toda una obra de arte.

  • Wow

  • this movie rocks way better than the new one ,if you have seen the orignal fame you need too see it ,and i hope you agree

  • This movie is playing for free tonight at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC!!

  • Saw this movie in Times Square went it first came out. Great movie!!!!!!!!!!

  • Was Mr. Reardon only in the TV Series?

  • this is the only secular piece that comes close to the christmas foodcourt falshmob video.

  • awesome

  • My fav 80"s movie. I've watched this movie more than 16 candles.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • incredible

  • Its fantastic

    codypizz2008

  • @tigersrulehannah The dancing in the new one is better, I think, but the rest has had its guts ripped out. It has no edge at all.

  • Hi 5Jerry. I just found out through the IMDb message board that the performer is Laura Dean.

  • Beyond superlative description, this is the last gasp of the days when people still consistently made good music. It made me happy and sad at the same time, seeing this. The 1980 version of the film was excellent, and this part, the graduation scene is a standout!

  • Does anyone know the name of the young vocalist who sings the opening lines? I've checked the IMDb site but there's no specific cast listing.

  • @gorgonique

I just know the character's name is "Lisa." No help, I know. She sounds good, though.

  • Hw my high school graduation should've been..smh....

  • Song this song from my 8th grade graduation class of '81 WOW!

  • Who's the hot babe next to Shorofsky?

  • Hail to the geeks! I was a geek!

  • fab..

  • FREAKING LOL TO THE GUYS FACE ON THE LEFT AT 3:37 - 3:39

  • definately one of the best conclusions of a feature film ever.

  • @bodkin1 I so agree with you there! I remember seeing it this ending and coming out of the theatre and remember seeing everyone smiling and looking so happy! It reminded me of a similiar experience after exiting the theatre after Rocky 1.

  • i bet they'll use this on the graduation episode for glee

  • i sang this song for my 5th grade graduation!

  • The coolest part is when Leroy and the ballet dancers throw out their arms toward the choir. It looks like angels wings.

  • i dunno why but i find montgomery attracive

  • @OfficialCiaraDorney Same here Montgomery is amazing <3

  • this is great great great!!

  • Bravo. It was hard not to see this movie as a young person and not come out of it with a sense of hope for the future. Thank you "ChuckNorrisBeatMeUp". By the way, I too was a karate student when I was of the "Fame" age and he was one of my heroes, as a talented symbol of the art.

  • I am gonna have this song played at my funeral way in the future from this soundtrack-

  • @flowers and @PricessSerena, Yes, totally agree.

  • like the scene, and your screen name. :)

  • Damn That Was Beautiful!!

  • i LOVE THIS!!!!!!!

  • An outstanding movie and a wonderful piece of music.

  • Great music, great talents. I love this wonderful movie since 30 years ans I enjoy it !!!

  • Fantastic-what a great film!

  • @madvillan10685 The beauty of the movie is that not everyone is a professional Mtv-ready model/singer. These are normal people. Everybody got to sing a part even thought their talent may not be singing.

  • not impressed sounds lame like the gimme gimmes better cuz the dudes singing sound like somthing that came out of my ass

  • epic.

  • Irene Cara is a pimp.

  • One of the best movies of the eighties. I still get chills when I hear this.

  • This song gives me chills

  • Fantastic ending to a fantastic movie.

  • I can't believe this is 30 years ago! Where has the time gone??? Sigh. Anyway, this song is soo inspirational that it makes me feel like I'm on top of the world! This is one of the songs that made me want to become a singer and musician. Great melody, great arrangements, great vocals!

  • tthis is so good thipashini

  • Love it. I couldn't stand the remake.

  • @PrincessSerena1121 I thought the remake was okay but it was nothing like the original. It was good compared to modern day standards but pretty pathetic when compared to the original movie. The songs and musical numbers were good though.

  • OMG! IT'S DR. ROMANO!!! WHY HAVE I NEVER NOTICED THIS BEFORE!?! D:

  • love this song & movie. my fav song is the piano background during a scene in a dressing room, but this one is amazing, too.

  • the violinist in the final shots is cute!!

  • Great song and movie

  • A wee bit corny, no?

  • @chthonic19 I agree. But these were the last years we were allowed a little genuine corniness. I miss it.

  • @chthonic19 No.

  • Just finished watching Fame for the first time, my only issue w/ it was that it provided little to no closure. I suppose that that couldve been the point, nothing was ever really solved between any of the characters, and so the viewer was left to imagine what occurs between the scenes and after the graduation.

  • @shamshamsham123123 That was the point. We don't know if any of these kids will make it, as viewers it's almost like we're experiencing what the students are. We don't know if anything will work out for these kids, nor do they.

  • very classic haha

  • @tigersrulehannah no kiddin', just saw the new one today and... well, yeah. it sucks. if you havnt seen the show, please do. that one is even better than the movie.

  • Hehee, CCA. :D

  • The new "Fame" is crap, absolutely no comparison to the original.

  • I wish my graduation was like this.

  • @bizzmizz11 god, i know! i love this movie so much!!!

  • Dr Romano? Is that you?

  • @wyrules Yes, it is!! :-)

  • classic film!

  • Pure Joy Pure Joy Pure Joy....

  • I will NEVER forget this song! I thought it was a shame that it did not become as popular on the radio as the title song FAME. Hey, I thought Fame was amazing but this was an embodiment of PURE JOY. BEFORE GLEE, BEFORE SISTER ACT (My favorite!) this was the movie that showed what people can do when they really show their talents. I LOVE the mix of classical, pop, choral, r&b into one beautiful composition! KUDOS to Composer: Michael Gore. Lyricist: Dean Pitchford! You've created beauty.

  • I like how the new movie tries to give the final song a positive message, even if it looks too professional for a high school to perform. Now that I've seen this. I'm blown away...

  • Great song, amazing how they can switch from symphonic to down 'n dirty rock & roll, plus a few other styles of music. I think they tried something like this later, in the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus", but without vocals.

  • Wow! This song still gives me chills after 30 years...

  • @alelandajo I still this work is a great piece of art! Luv those goosebumps in this number...

  • yes

  • My fave scene of the original Fame movie!!

    I love it!!
