@5191keith It's a factory A/FX race car....It's badass. A prostreet 800 hp muscle car is less badass than a factory built race car from the '60s, like a '68 Dart HEMI factory race car LO23. Everyone has a loud muscle car.
i have a 1968 ford galaxie 500 with a 390 in it and an edelbrok 750 carb sittin up top... galaxies are some of the most bad ass cars because they weigh in at aroung 3600 pounds (only 600 more then a newer mustang) and have big ass engines usually... mine cranks in around 350 HP and 427 foot pounds of torque, i break motor mounts all the time and i run around 11s or so in a 1/4 mile... galaxies rock
I had one of these cars in 1964 and ran it for a year...this car is a "DOG"...poorly tuned and even worse for the driving and setup...go home..put it away till you can learn how to drive it the right way...
@raginroadrunner Read the description, it isn't my car. I just happened to catch it on film while I was there. It was not the greatest launch but it ran a high 12 or low 13 second pass if I remember right. Pretty good for a big heavy car like that with a poor launch in Phoenix, AZ where the Altitude Density was like 5000 ft at this time. If your car only ran for a year it was because you don't know how to take care of or fix a vehicle. Not my problem. Thanks for the nice comment.
don`t think that 76 p/u was stock as i hahad a 64 marauder warmed over 390 , 4 spd , 4.11 detroit locker that run low 12`s . a friend has a regular 427 street version , 4 spd , 4.30 detroit locker ; runs 12.70 `s and it is bone stock . been drag racing 40 years! That galaxie in the vid is wicked !
got a copy of the time slip, i put this truck on a weight diet,p dropped the rear 7 inches dropped the front 4.5 inches lexan windows sheet metal removal, put 2 batteries in the back for traction 389 rear gears with a spool 40 inch long latter bars full adjustable, homemade, c-6 trans, 850 holly dual 50 mm acc pumps, edlbrock per rpm intake edlbrock 572 lift cam, 3000 stall, ra
Saw the videos. Looks good but it's not a stock 390 by any means. Stock would be completely untouched, stock carb, stock exhaust manifolds, 100,000 miles etc.. You have a holly carb, intake manifold, a big cam, headers i'm sure, a worked trans with a 3000 stall, 3.89 gears, a spool, the truck is stripped, etc. The only thing stock is the shortblock and heads and i'm sure those have had machining, new pistons, balancing, eh? Let's be honest man it's nowhere near stock lol. Fast truck tho
we are working on this with a 63. it won't be like the nascar, more modernized... disk breaks etc.. but you are right on. once you've stood next to a running cammer the regular FE might as well be a honda 2.0l
Yup. I don't think they were trying to practice for any serious racing tho, just exhibition and fun. Also, watch the tires and rear axle as he launches it. They totally shake around like a little bitch behind that 427 lol. I think he stabbed the gas but he had full race slicks and the engine couldn't overcome the tires from only a 3000 rpm (ish?) drop. I loved seeing the car though. It's an original factory race car.
yep, dad's only NEW car was a black 64, 300hp 390 4spd, he wanted the 3spd overdrive that the 63's had but they where no longer avail in 64, so he ordered the 4spd but it didn't come w/posi. too bad that car is long gone. anyway, summer '07 i lucked out and found him a 63.5 (64 dash and fastback roof) no motor yet but it's in good shape for $800, as well as a 56 fairlane 2dr ht for me from a great old fella who needed the room
In 1977, when I was 17, I bought a 1962 Ford Galaxie with a 390 (with "Thunderbird" on the valve covers - not sure if that was something over a regular 390?), with 4-barrel carb, dual exhaust, & 3-speed manual + electro-mechanical 4th gear overdrive. I think it was rated at 300HP & 427 ft/lbs torque. It was a great high school car, although I got speeding tickets etc. In 1977, they weren't collector cars yet, so it only cost me $300... - LHS
From 60' on it outran all your Chevy's...

Wow.... This wasn't a sock motor or was it? More likely a side oiler. I crave details

Man I wish I could give you details. I just saw it and video taped it. Don't know a thing about it.

Very nice. Sounded like he almost stalled it off the line, but it was still a great run : )

what did it run in the quarter? i had a bone stock 390 in a 76 stepside truck that run 12.76
jamesmrmechanic 2 years ago
I don't remember what it ran.

damn
jamesmrmechanic 2 years ago
How did your stock 390 move a '76 pickup down the 1/4 in 12.76? I find this very hard to believe. Do you have any videos of this?
gtdrummerdude 2 years ago
trying to convert the videos at the moment

If i would have a Galaxie 64- i would of making it like a NASCAR racecar-replica, but with a 427 SOHC ''Cammer''-engine instead of ''regular'' 427".

My older brother had Green 64 2 door with a 390 4spd. He used to take me to the track in the early 70's to watch him race.
He also had a 3 deuce's on it But I dont know if that was a factory option.
His best friend use to run a 63 Impala with a 409. Sure was great watching them race.
I stll remember falling asleep in the back seat when My brother and friends were getting the car ready for the local drag meet late at nite
Thx for the Video! Sure brings back great Memories.
