Ray Price and Orginal Cherokee Cowboys were all there and I had the best time back stage with Ray, Darrell, Bush, Buddy, and Willie and more. That was the best show ever and we all still talk about it today. Since then I have spent many a good nights with those boys and they are as good today as they were back then.
Just Glad they kept is country ! Ray Price as good as he has ever been ! God Bless Him....and Willie to.......God Bless Them
I had the honor of recording with Mr.Emmons in 1997. I asked him to play one of my guitar solos on the steel instead of me doing it on guitar. What a nice and humble man. His playing made me fall in love with the steel... :) Great memory.
Had the Pleasure of Meeting Buddy Emmons and Ray Price when buddy was playing with Ray ~Two great guys for sure~definitly one of the TOP Steel players in THe Natio buddy , Curly Chalker and Dannny Sneed ~Steve
I saw an ernest tubb show in hodgenville, ky. when buddy first joined his band, was 19 years old??Ernestcame up behind buddy and squeezed his neck as he told of buddy holding up the bus after their last gig because buddy found a girl after the show...we're not going to do that again ,are we buddy ? as he squeezed harder...ha
I can't remember his name, but that fiddle player was on the first session I did after moving to Nashville years ago. We could hardly get a take b/c he had us all laughing so hard doing "Cartman" impressions...
Buddy's daughter in law Nona is a friend of mine as was his old partner Shot Jackson (the sho part of show bud) but unfortunately I never got to meet Buddy.
This is one fantastic sounding piece. I doubt there is one music lover of steel guitar music who would ever get tired of listeing to this beautiful piece. Buddy is truly the master of sound on the PSG. Great job....I wish Buddy would come back and do more pieces...He is amazing.
dIt has that classic "shuffle country" sound. Emmons, Mooney ... love 'em all! Not to many modern steel guitarists were as innovative as those guys. It's just great to hear. A treat for the ears!
Sorry....I was replying to iforbus (these posts don't always place correctly)....so I meant Joe Mastepietro (which I wasn't able to find anywhere.....so I'm not sure of the correct spelling)
I could listen to Buddy all day long.. I've been a fan of his back when he was teenager b/4 Nashville on tv show in Detroit... I was a teen also... my one wish all these yrs is to meet him in person... he was tall and cute,, this was even b/4 Elvis!! :) Buddy is the greatest!!
@Khaddar Yup Buddy Emmons has been at the very top of the tree for well over 50 years, a player of tasteful genius and also in the design and development / evolution of the pedal steel guitar.
There are many superb players in the world but this man still owns the benchmark.
Thanks for posting this one Great playing by the Foremost Steel Guitar Player in the World. I had the priviledge of sitting in front of him while he played that at a show here in Lakeland, FL in the early 80's. Amazing talent.
Since his days with ET, Rose City Chimes, Night Life, and Steel Guitar Jazz, of all the great ones no one has gotten sweeter sounds from a steel guitar.
Its not just the perfect calm execution but the tone is awesome, there is magic in those hands. there will never be his equel IMHO.(and 5 stars is not nearly enough for this performance!!)
every time I see and hear Buddy playing it makes me smile, he is just simply the best...there is so much emotions in his playing that is unbeliavable...man has a love afair with a steel guitar.....
I have such a guitar ( not pedal steel ) but Hawaiian sounds and would like to restart playing on it with the help frome somebody good in this world. I am 61 and depending of MUSIC, as I never have seen grown up my own children in my "little" country. How cruel...
Here, here, I agree 100% with the previous comment, and it is nice that you remember the great Pete Drake who it has been documented as, quote " Almost single handedly opened the door for PEDAL steel guitar in Nashville" . Buddys contribution to the instuments musicianship, design and development is astounding.
We have lost so many legendary players recently enjoy the ones who are still with us.
What we should remember, is that people like Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green, Pete Drake and many others 'launched' the pedal steel 'sound' onto the world. No one plays rightly or wrongly - we all hear sounds differently - and we should all enjoy what we like by the players we like, while we have them with us. Life is finite, so enjoy what it has to offer while you can.....:-)
Listen and it is understandable you are seeing and listening to the worlds "Foremost Steel Guitarist", just listen to the remarkable tone and execution of notes. Great Song and Great Job......
I'm just not a big Zum fan, not downing them cause they sound great going in a Fender tube but the tone just aint there in a Peavy for me

@delora33 -- that's the power of the steel. No other instrument has it, not even the fiddle.
