ok, so now i,ve listened to this piece for a hundred times,i,m now going to attempt to play it,lol...such a beautiful piece it touches the spirit.i know i will enjoy this journey.......oh and ur night in tunisia i,snt too shabby either ,lol....well done
You have a remarkably lyrical style to your improvs. This was the first song of your's that I came across. I have listened to many others, but I keep coming back to this one. Very, very nice.
Beautiful stuff. Is there any chance for that score you have at the top to be made into sheet music? If thats possible i would love a copy! Thanks for this amazing piece
No bro. as far as I am concerned you are on a very compelling track with this direction like miles 64 side of same tune on My Funny Vallentine with "the quintet". I am sure you know this document .
@freeqwerqwer show me a typical "pop" tune where I can hear such an Intro. I don't know what kind of jazz you listen to... It's a tasteful intro in my opinion, and jazz for sure.
@luomodellestelle in terms of "casino", Chick Correa for example can do worse than 7notemode. And he is, for some reason, far more famous. Which is beyond me.
how long does it take learning jazz? i know the piano inside out, having been classically trained for donkey's years, but i have absolutely no idea how to do "all this jazz" :)
i know it's definately worth investing time into, just wondering how long till i can speak fluent jazz
Good question, but I don't have a good answer. You never stop learning, so it goes on for as long as you play. Maybe find a teacher and see what kind of affinity you have for it.
Your harmonizations are 'Bill Evans Like" Great job. I would have preferred if you had brought the melody in (keeping its integrity throughout). However, still great work!
Well, I love what you do with this. As a guitarist I too have long been fascinated by this chord progression. You take it far enough somewhere else to call it something else.
i guess im a simplton of sorts..you do play nice though..mabey I guess you got my buggedness I mean :do you like bill evans? mabey u like him im a melody person but i love art too and abstraction
i know there are major geinuses that play that .... anyway.your playing is very nice though i mentioned about stella....at first it reminded me of .bill evans...though im not a totaly savy....it did remind me of him
where is stella? I gave up trying to find the beutifull melody that is stella by starlite i left 4 minutes into it when the song wasent there you should call it sompthing else its not stella by starlite
johnnyguitarcarson. That's some very high level company! Thanks. Going this far out is going to lose some people, but from a playing perspective, it is very satisfying to me.
An immaculate performance. This seemed to have everything, harmony, timing, dynamics etc with such control and it still sang, amazing how you do that. What was the right hand chord progression at 05:20? 5*, Surely time for a cd now :)
I used the old camcorder for this. I tried 480x888 in ScreenFlow, but it is a little too wide. I'm trying to figure out the exact aspect ratio to fill the screen with no horizontal or vertical black bars.
7NM, thank you so much for posting this one with the board 'n score. I find you pick the perfect things to do this way, and which ones to simply play on the grand.
You have no idea how much educational material there is in here for me. Thank you so much.
Thanks Alfonso. I rendered it at 480x888 for a 1.85 aspect ratio, but that is a little too wide. I'm not sure the exact aspect ratio to fill up the entire screen.
As you say in the description ..."This tune is incredibly rich" - and as played by you it most surely is. ;-)
The voicings are classic 7NM (love those 10ths). The introspective nature of this interpretation allows the listener a glimpse into the inner creativity of an extremely talented and expressive pianist.
theres some real gems in your arrangement and voicings, thank you for sharing your gift.

How did you get the score to play back with correct bar lines and rhythm on a somewhat rubato piece? Great Work

@gogoriviera I just use the scrolling score in Logic without modifying it. Thanks.

@jaywbe Seems to me that you leave your ego and preconceptions at the door and just get playing.
Then have another go. Then relax a bit playing.
And then when someone says heh you`re a jazz player..well, then you are.

I agree, not enough Stella!
Although I did hear the melody before 4 mintutes was up... It was there, but for a very short time, from about 1.45.
But the playing was so beautiful, lovely tone!
ThePiano1991 3 years ago
ThePiano1991 and snuffelsuf,
I pushed this version as far away from the original song as I could. I have a more traditional post of Stella up as well.

As Jazz musicians we play this all the time because we love the basic form.
But I must say your brilliant substitutions are like a clinic .
I will probably integrate some of your perspective in my intro to Stella.
I have borrowed intro perspectives from 2 other artist this particular way;
Chick Corea - Humpty Dumpty
Keith Jarrett - Autumn Leaves
Thanks- please keep posting
