  • All songs good but could have had CCR and maybe Free Bird Skynyrd in there and taken out the ZZ top. Out of these my top ten is

    1. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama 2.Allman Brothers - Jessica 3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man 4. Bob Seger-Old time rock and roll 5. Marshall Tucker Band - Cant you see 6.The Hollies-Long Cool woman in a black dress 7.Steve Miller Band-take the money and run 8.Mountain-Mississippi Queen 9. ZZ-top - Sharp Dressed Man 10.ZZ - top-La Grange

  • FREEBIRD

  • If you're referring to bands literally from the South well that's another thing (I don't know if they are or not). Some of these bands aren't the southern rock sound. Look up Drive by Truckers, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, and Drivin' n' Cryin'. Great, great bands.

  • mountain is a souther rock band? and Creedence? I don't think so...anyway the marshall tucker band is my favourite...'this ol cowboy' is fantastic...

  • A few clarifications:

Mountain is not a Southern Rock band. They are from New York & New Jersey.

"Long Cool Woman" was by The Hollies, not CCR. And The Hollies were English...so they are not a Southern Rock band, either.

Steve Miller is not Southern Rock. He was born in Milwaukee & moved to California.

And Bob Seger? Detroit. Hundreds of miles from The Mason-Dixon Line. Southern? Nope.

If you plan on another "Top Ten Southern Rock Songs" list, might want to do your research first.

  • list is wrong ccr should have at least two songs on it and you left our simple man from lynyrd skynyrd and free bird also cant you see is to low

  • @MrGuraldo True, you can watch my mew southern rock top ten list. It might be more to your liking

  • @franciswei All are very good songs but neither Steve Miller or Bob Seger were Southern based rock bands. Steve Miller is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Seger is from Detroit, Michigan. The rest are all Southern Rock Bands and like I said all the music is good stuff. You might have added such bands as: The Charlie Daniels band, Blackfoot, Wet Willie, Black Oak Arkansas, Grinderswitch, Barefoot Jerry, or 38 Special just to name a few.

  • @MrGuraldo CCR sings like a southern band and sings about the south. A lot of people think there from Louisianan. But there not even from the south. There from California. That's the South or the North. It's kinda like... well... nothing. It's just there.

  • Can someone tell me which harmonica and harp they use in southern rock? The harmonica on southern rock bands are so fucking cool.

  • Im a socialist and hate the USA, but i lovr CCR!

  • Doraville - Atlanta Rhythm Section

  • ZZ Top twice and no CCR?!? you must've been trippin' on LSD back when good music came out.

  • @TheLeftylegend14 Actually I wasn't born ...

  • @franciswei I wasn't either I'm only 18. CCR is the greatest rock band ever. in my opinion :) look up " It Came Out Of The Sky " - by CCR. they never play it on the radio but it's great. and funny.

  • You forgot Who'll stop the rain

  • LONG LIVE THE GLORIOUS SOUTH!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for uploading your list,I haven't figured how to do it myself without the music police dumping on me for the whole not my music stuff.Just wanted ta say 6 out of the 10 were in the ballpark......As soon as I can I'll put my 10 on and see if yaz like em...

  • Where are Free Bird, Green Grass and High Tides, Highway Song, Train Train, Flirtin' with Disaster, or Hold On Loosely?

  • nobody ever gives the most talented southern rock band any love. that band is the atlanta rhythm section. ronnie hammond was the best voice in southern rock. paul goddard the best bass player (just listen to another mans woman) and barry bailey the best guitarist.

  • Hollies not ccr sang long cool women

  • Isn't Bob Segar from Michagin

  • @aerosmithofficial3 yeah ann arbor

  • please help, i cant find the song ''South of heaven'' does some1 know where can i find it?

  • 1) Sweet Home Alabama - Skynyrd

    2) Green Grass and High Tides - Outlaws

    3) Freebird - Skynyrd

    4) Can't You See - Marshall Tucker

    5) One Way Out - Allman Bros

    6) In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - Allman Bros

    7) Grey Ghost - Henry Paul

    8) Flirtin With Disaster - Molly Hatchet

    9) Highway Song - Blackfoot

    10) Billy the Kid - Charlie Daniels

  • Someone doesn't know the North from South.

  • BLACK OAK ARKANSAS

  • I hate to burst your bubble, but The Hollies were English rock

  • Good list, but what about Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws?...:)

  • Apparently The Hollies are Southern Rock? Southern England?

  • @17865329 Southern Rock is a genre, not a geographic location. CCR, for example, is from California.

  • Bob Seger isn't a southern rocker.

  • Glad to see the Allman Brothers Band in there!

  • Good list. Skynyrd is my favorite all-time band along with Led Z, but Can't You See is one of the all-time greatest songs.

  • i thought waylon jennings was the one who sung cant you see?? well i think he did a better version at least

  • uhhhhh mountain southern rock????...they are from NY

  • Nice list! My bands have played most of those songs at one time or another so I would have to agree with you....except maybe Steve Miller. I'm kind of on the fence about him, but Take the Money was a huuuuuge hit back in the day.

  • Southern Rock the only thing that makes me fly like a Free Bird :B

  • Flirtin with disaster???

  • Long Cool Woman is by the Hollies, not Creedence. Great list, Everyone's taste is different. I would have .38 Special on my list.

  • @tonlo92 Yes If I were to make a new list .38 special would definitely b in it. Hold on loosely is like a southern rock anthem

  • @franciswei no Free Bird is.....

  • its just ur opinion i get it but SHARPED DRESSED MAN FOR 1...WHAT BOUT FREE BIRD!?!

  • 10-POISON WHISKEY-LYNYRD SKYNYRD 9-BLACK BETTY-RAM JAM 8-TRAIN TRAIN-BLACK FOOT 7-MIDNIGHT RIDER-ALLMAN BROS 6-HONEYSUCKLE BLUE-DRIVIN & CRYIN 5-SWEET HOME AL-LYNYRD SKYNYRD 4-RAMBLIN MAN-ALLMAN BROS 3-MR BANKER-LYNYRD SKYNYRD 2-MISSISSIPPI KID-LYNYRD SKYNYRD 1-FREE BIRD-LYNYRD SKYNYRD BTW BLACK WATER BY THE DOOBIE BROS IS 1 OF MY FAVS TOO
  • sorry for my ignorance...how is southern music different from country? (i'm british btw, if that excuses my poor knowledge)

  • I LOVE ZZ TOP but Sharp Dressed Man is NOT southern rock.

    Still a great list

  • "LOng Cool Woman In Black" is NOT a CCR song!

  • bob seger is from detroit.

  • i wouldn't say best, but definitely great classics, though

  • zz top are more texicano rock than southern rock but list is ok

  • I was really pleased to come across this young band from the UK called Force of Habit here on youtube :D their music is quite similar to southern rock and I really like it! Especially a song called Flight 405. I really recommend people check them out ;) People say the youth of today don't listen to real music which is often true but not for all!

  • Its disgustin to read some of these comments. Give the guy a break hes got some pretty good ones on here. Can't you see is one of my favorites of all on here. Great taste in music bud

  • @gmcbigrig79 I appreciate it dude !

  • @franciswei yah bud ya did a great job. Ya ever listen to "Southern Woman" by Marshall Tucker Band? or Some of Hank Jr. songs like "Outlaw women" or "Country State Of Mind"? Hank Jr. also has a song like Lynyrd Skynyrds "Sweet Home Alabama" its called "Country boy can survive". I compare the two cause everyone knows em two songs down south. Dont get me wrong they are two completely different soundin songs theyre just both these guys biggest hits!

  • @gmcbigrig79 I agree, he has some good songs in the list but WHERE IS MOLLY HATCHET? WHERE IS .38 SPECIAL? Most of the true Southern Rock genre bands were from Jacksonville, Tampa or Orlando Florida!!! I grew up idolizing these guys as Danny Joe Brown (Hatchet's lead singer) was my cousin.

  • @insurancemanharold I hear ya man. Gotta love Molly Hatchet and .38 special! Im 17 now but I remember when I was 6 years old takin trips on the my fathers indian to daytona beach headin out to bike week and this is all I used to hear. Their just aint nothin like the old southern rock and country music!

  • IF YOU LIKE SOUTHERN ROCK.. and YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK..

    Coming July 15-17th 2011

The Great South Bay Music Festival is the largest three day, “American Themed” music, art & cultural family event on Long Island. Featuring over 45 musical artists on 3 stages,..check out The Great South Bay Music Festival website for more information!!

  • first steve miller really isnt a southern rock band and second why the hell does everyone put sweet home alabama that is like the worste of lynyrd skynyrds greatest hits and as every one else has told you THATS NOT CCR THATS THE HOLLIES and bob seager come on now this list should be thrown out of a window

  • @sdc39 No it aint. Sweet home Alabama is a great song! along with the rest of Lynyrd Skynyrds songs.

  • Its not CCR that sings that!!! Its The Hollies

  • WHAT FK IS THIS

  • Whole lotta NON southern rock bands! And couldnt find another Skynyrd tune?? Cmon

  • @roadglidin62 i believe he said it was "HIS" top ten. dont like the songs then make your own. problem solved

  • I can appreciate your favorite songs but they are not all from the South but maybe they have a Southern feeling to you so don't let the criticism get to you like you said it's your first video i believe you said? The Bands are from the North, the UK as well as the South OK just keep at it you'll make more videos and good ones I'm sure maybe the list is more like your favorites and maybe they have a Southern feel to you I know what the comments are saying is true but don't let it get to you

  • Mountain is far from the south, have you heard Nantucket Sleighride? There bass player produced Cream. Joe's right, need some Molly Hatchet ! Skynard without Ronnie, Steve Miller. Your so lost man, maybe you have half of it right. You must be from New York. Segars form Detroit, he did produce beautiful looser at Muscle shoals.

  • @jczother I don't know if he's from NY or not but it's his first try give the kid a break and by the way you don't have to be from the South to know or appreciate Southern Rock Also people like me from NY aren't as uneducated and backward as we used to be in fact we think we just as good as anybody else despite the fact that you all look down us like I said we ain't as backward as we used to be PEACE

  • @jczother I assume when you say New York you mean New York City because New York state has plenty of country in the north there are counties bigger than Rhode Island with a population of 8,000 but I am from NY and by that I mean the city you'd be surprised maybe people from upstate NY don't like us either but I'm proud to say my Dad was on Iwo JIma and I did my time too and after seeing the World Trade Center come down I wished I was still young enough for another war I try to respect everybody

  • @jczother being from NY I can tell you that as for myself I can pick out Southern music Rock or Country in a NY second I like a lot of different kinds of music myself but maybe you do too I don't know I guess maybe the Civil War is not over but on the other hand I've had people get resentful hearing my accent and it don't have to be from the South either upstate NY, California, the West even Boston what's so special about NY that you get insults and resentment just from being from there?

  • Mountain is far from the south, have you heard Nantucket Sleighride? There bass player produced Cream. Joe's right, need some Molly Hatchet !

  • no Molly Hatchet!

  • Is southern rock a musical genre or a geographic description?

  • @beatmastert From wikipedia : "Southern rock is a subgenre of rock music, and genre of Americana. It developed in the Southern United States from rock and roll, country music, and blues..."

  • @franciswei if it's from wikipedia it must be true

  • @bisp25 no it's from ronnie van zant. ronnie always said ARS was the best southern band ever, and ronnie hammond was the best voice in southern rock.

  • @beatmastert Right.....Neither Bob Seger nor Steve Miler are southern...They're from Wisconsin and Michigan

  • @beatmastert yea its below the the line that separated the north from the south. the south is gonna do it again !! charlie daniels band

  • ok I understand you're not from the south but um a few suggestions (and I'm not saying I don't like this video you caught a few of my favorites on here the best being Sweet Home Alabama, and Old Time Rock n Roll, glad I'm not alone on that one)

  • @BoromirGurl26 lol, but next time you make a southern rock list make sure to include Freebird, because NO list is complete without it, Brickyard Road (because it's a great tribute to Ronnie Van Zant) and Rebel to Rebel for the same reason. Good luck with your future videos and don't worry about what anyone thinks this is YOUR list NOT theirs

  • Bob Seger, southern rock? First he is from Detroit, second how do you get southern rock, especially from this song?

  • you forgot green grass and high tides

  • where is have you ever seen the rain by creedence???????

  • Awesome,

but the title is "My Top Ten Southern Rock Songs"

    But Jessica has no singings

  • @Pelicomics It doesn't have to have singing in order for it to be a song

  • Dunno where you're from, but if you'da played that Steve Miller song at any of the keg parties I went to back in the day, they'da smashed your record player.

  • Should of just had ten Skynrnd songs.

  • Damn, haven't heard SOUTH of HEAVEN for so long! thanks for posting. Time to dig up my old CD collections.

  • isn't mountain from long island new york?

  • this is what happens when a yankee listens to southern rock! jk, you had some good tunes on there. the next one should be skynyrd, allman brothers, zz, waylon jennings & buddy holly.. now thats southern rock!!!

  • of course there are only great songs on this video, but... the greatest classic of Southern Rock is "FREE BIRD" (Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • That's a very good classement but where is Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and... Free Bird!!!?

  • Amie by Pure Prairie League.

  • Thanks for including Toy Caldwell and the MTB. Toy was a Vietnam vet ( injured), a true Southern rocker, and an American badass for sure!

  • All great bands and songs! Check out PREACHER STONE out of NC!!! They wear their southern influences proudly!!!

  • i am going to see Marshall tucker band on valentines day weekend sat feb 12, 2011 at the watseka theatre watseka il. are you going?

  • Just throwin it out there...Molly Hatchet Flirtin With Disaster....

  • Hmm, there are a few of these songs that I wouldn't really consider southern rock. lol, This list needs some black crows, allmans, blind melon, and ANYTHING by drive by truckers

  • You can rip the audio-mp3 of this tune at grabaudios doht cohm.

  • Those beards...they're legendary.

  • Long cool woman in a black dress was written and performed by The Hollies numbnuts!

  • @shadrac309 I think i changed it didn't I, or are you blind ?

  • Of course there are only great songs on this video, but... the greatest classic of Southern Rock is "FREE BIRD" (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

  • @shadrac309 And isn't Bob Seger from Michigan? Which ibelieve is fairly northerly.

  • ummmm, ccr didn't do long cool woman in a black dress. and steve miller, while he has some southern influence, doesn't really qualify as southern rock

  • Where Steve Miller is from doesn't matter!"Southern Rock" is a genre (or style) not where the artist is from. Steve Miller's music doesn't fall into the genre of "Southern Rock!" (Check my previous post for all the corrections) So that maybe y'all will get it. I am an old guy! I am from the south (Alabama) I am a radio personality who's been playing all of this stuff on the air since it came out! Not my opinion Just fact! Listen! Learn something! Then you can make an intelligent Top 10.

  • What the hell Steve Miller Band isnt Southern Rock. They are from San Fransisco.

  • @Willredd94....Steve Miller is from Dallas, Tx.

  • Pretty funny. But "south" is "south", and some of these bands were NOT from anywhere near the south. Why didn't you just say, "My 10 favorite songs from bands I know nothing about"? LOL

  • You have the alman Brothers picture during mississippi Queen

  • @supernoob6 Yea tat was a mistake, i misclicked when i wanted 2 add the mountain pic

  • you lost me at old time rock n roll.

  • so if a band is from newyork they cannot pley southern rock?

  • Also, mountain is not a southern band.... They are from New York! but I guess singing about a mississippi queen qualifies it as a southern rock song??????

  • Also, mountain is not a southern band.... They are from New York! but I guess singing about a mississippi queen qualifies it as a southern rock song??????

Another one>>> Steve Miller Band..... they are from California....

  • @park0237 ...Steve Miller is from Dallas, Tx.

  • Also, mountain is not a southern band.... They are from New York! but I guess singing about a mississippi queen qualifies it as a southern rock song??????

  • CCR didn't sing long cool woman in a black dress..... that was the hollies...

also... these aren't all southern rock bands....Bob Segar????

  • The Marshall Tucker Band explode The Watseka Theatre Watseka Illinois (92 miles from Chicago) on Valentines Day Weekend Saturday Feb 12, 2011. Did I mention they have a full bar there and a gourmet restaurant? I have my tickets.

  • You know half of this isnt southern rock right? Skynard is one of the most talented bands in history and you managed to pick one of their few horrible songs. Look into some molly hatchet, skynards less famous songs, atlanta rhytm sections .....

  • Bob Seger is from Michigan and that song blows more than any.

  • @bptaylor11 you dont have to be fromthe south to play southern rock anymore than you have to be from NYC to play techno. And if youd ever been around michigan youd know it has more in common with North Carolina than it does with NY

  • some of dis i dont considerc so ro

  • First of all, any list that's top 10 any songs should have free bird in it - the fact that this top ten SOUTHERN ROCK songs doesnt is just ridiculous. some other ones missed are skynyrds simple man, the allman brothers ramblin' man (and blue sky, another very good song), the outlaws green grass and high tides and there goes another love song, and molly hatchets flirtin with disaster.

  • Some good songs.. but not my top 10... thanks for sharing... I enjoyed the listening to them....

  • Anyone else thing "the south is gonna do it again should be on here"

  • When did Steve Miller and Bob Seger become southern rock WTF maybe some hatchet, grinderswitch or Outlaws But seger Is DAMN Good and so is Miller But Southern rock AFRAID NOT BUCKO

  • @fatmanbossboy: Or the Hollies, for that matter: an English band; or how about Mountain: New Yorkers--geez!

  • I can't find Lynyrd Skynyrd's South of Heaven on youtube... :(

    This song's awesome!

  • thata the hollies singing long coool woman not ccr

  • zz top is not southern rock noob

  • Where is the band blackfoot?

  • No freebird? Give me a break!

  • long cool woman in a black dress was originally done by the hollies

  • LONG COOL WOMAN IN A BLAK DRESS IS PERFORMEd BY THE HOLLIES altought it sound a lot like CCR

  • lynyrd skynyrd free bird is number 1 and number 1 in Southern Rock

  • lynyrd skynyrd free bird is number 1 i like zz top but sorry lynyrd skynyrd is number 1 in Southern Rock

  • dude ccr didnt sing that song that would be the hollies

  • yeap..

  • lynyrd skynyrd,molly hatchet,blackfoot,the outlaws,38 special,zz top,allman brothers,marshall tucker,

  • @undead4551- I love all of those songs, too!...In America, there are people in the northern part of the country who consider "Southern Rock" country music! To call Bob Segar, Steve Miller, The Hollies or Mountain, Southern Rock would be like calling Rick Springfield, Olivia Newton John or The Little River Band, Jazz!

They are actually good "rock" songs but there is a difference between "rock" and "Southern Rock" as far as musical stylings go.

On behalf of U S musicians and DJs...Thank you!

  • Rip Ronnie :(

  • @Badrovic2 Why not?

  • Why ZZ Top ?

  • You should research your music and improve your knowledge of "Southrrn Rock!"

    (1) Mountain is a band from Long Island, New York! DEFINATELY NOT SOUTHERN!

    (2) Steve Miller is from San Francisco, California! Definately NOT SOUTHERN!

    (3) Bob Segar is from Michigan!, DEFINATELY NOT SOUTHERN!

    (4) The Hollies are from freakin' England!...Guess What?

    I am from Alabama!...DEFINATELY SOUTHERN!

  • @TheLeemasters i am from australia and thats definatly southern i like mountain and seve miller lynard skynard as well fuck the rest its fuckin southern rock to me

  • Respond to this video... Steve Miller was born in Wis. but spent most of his formative years in Dallas, Tx.

  • where is freebird?

  • lynyrd skynyrd best from this list....for me...

  • you rele dont know what southern rock is

  • it<,s is not ccr who sing long cool women in a black dress it's the hollies

  • Great list but #1 should definetly be Simple Man by Skynard. No question.

  • dude do you know what southern rock is take the fake ccr out thats not ccr take bob segarout n zz top is ok but mountain hell no skynyrd is southern rock though

  • great mix...... dont let the name fool ya, grew up listening to a lot of this
