  • wats the fly weels made from?

  • how dosent she get hot, do u ol her

  • ah a nice hit and miss!

  • Are they for sale. If so how much

  • not for sale

  • sweet

  • its called a hit and miss engine it doesnt fire on every stroke..

  • It is a gasoline engine, there is a battery and

also a capacitor which is attached to the timing

linkage, Also if it were a diesel there would be

more of a knocking sound instead of a pop.

Oh, now I see someone already answered you,

  • Is it diesel or unleaded petrol

  • it is unleaded petrol

  • good job

  • Now THAT is a gorgeous engine. Congratulations on making such a thing of beauty! One of these days I need to get a close look at the valvetrain of the old hit & misses.

  • how is the timing kept its the original engine type 4 sure but how u now ehn to do the strokes?

  • Okay, from reading the comments about why it misses, I understand the concept, but how exactly does it know WHEN to hit and when to miss?

  • I believe it is the balls on the top, which are the Governor. Once they get to a certain position the engine misses. Side note, this is how the term balls to the wall came to be, cause when the engine is at full throttle with a load the balls are out to the wall.

  • That is a brilliant concept. I couldn't figure that out in a million years.

  • AWESOME!

  • neat :D

sounds like my old bug on a cold day XDD

  • these are cool engines

but i don't under stand the stroke pattern what makes it miss so much....and why would you want to use this motor its all flywheel no power cause the darn thing missing almost every powerstroke.

  • its called hit and miss and it only fires enough to keep its self going

  • it's an economy thing. when there is no load it just hits enough to maintain rpm then when the load comes back it hits every time until the load drops of again. This way it wastes less fuel between loads.

  • your a noob,

ppl build these to get in touch with the roots of engines, these are the original engine, and were used for work not for putting in your boy racer car,

to make one of these is not easy, and to make an engine from SCRATCH on your won aint easy

  • when it doesnt fire, the exhaust valve is held open, so no vacuum is created to open the intake valve; so it doesnt actually use gas on the 'miss' stroke

  • I see

  • Very Nice. Pero lo que mas megusto son

los cometarios en la lengua de Cervantes.

    Dr. zedneM

  • It's very nice! I never saw a "new" model of one of the old ones, makes me wish I was a machinist

  • Impressive!

  • Nice man.. though is it still home made when you have a machine shop?

  • RESPEKT!!!

  • That's cool.

    Keep tweaking it.

  • Very nice engine!! Runs so smooth; no shaking or jumping at all!

  • Very nice and well engineered

  • Hit and miss engines are very cool. They have a show here at the end of every April and September that features old tractors and old engines like the one you built.

  • the blue cup has gasoline

  • @ch0n9 can it run on kerosene?

  • whats the fuel?

  • that's crazy, how many ci is that?

  • i love those hit and misses

  • Very nice, its a copy of peter lister engine design.

  • Lister Petter, its ok close enough

  • muy bueno! me gusta el legítimo!

  • sell it on ebay!!

  • i Realy love that sound it sounds like a BSA M20 with starting problems real low Rpm and low axhaust thingy sound

  • nice! how did you get hold of the crankshaft, and piston? and what seals did you use?

  • That engine is about 620cc.

  • Nice engine, good job building it. What's the bore and stroke?

  • 2" bore and 3" stroke 300 rpm

  • it sounds like a oil pumping rig

  • the engine will be used to separate coffee grains from the pulp

  • sweet!! now put it on your bicycle
