  • I posted this yesteday on my Facebook page: Today I was thinking if I ever get back to Philly I would look up the man who taught me to play drums, George "Butch" Ballard. I think of him now and then, especially on MLK day. When I googled him I was deeply saddened to learn he had passed away last October. Rest In Peace Butch. You were my first "life coach." I have not played drums for 30 years, but I carry your lessons with me always. Thanks to Marc Adler for emailing this video to me.

  • Mr. Butch was a very important person in my young life here in philly he was my drummer teacher for 4yr in the 70's

  • Butch played with me in my Trio. He was great! Sweet man. People LOVED HIM!!!

  • Amazing--particularly at 89! An interview with Mr. Ballard is featured in "The King of All, Sir Duke," a 2001 book by Peter Lavezzoli. Thanks for posting this clip.

  • its too bad theres not more interest in this stuff..

  • very nice! very Max Roach-esque with some nice Joe Morello finger control thrown in!
