We built it on a 1997 Corvette Z06 chassis...7 liter LS7, MTI X1 Cam, etc.
We removed the rear seats on the Corvette before doing the body mods. The tough part was getting the stock Corvette coil springs to work with shortened wheelbase of the 959 body. Also, we swapped most of the rear suspension to V6 model Corvette pieces, except for the paddle shift transmission. That remained stock Corvette.
Hey chief, this 959 is definitely a fake. I'm 11 and I've memorized the sound of every 959 on the planet and this sonic signature does not match any of the production models made by Porsche.
I can't tell you exactly why or how I think it is fake. I have no quantitative data or real tech on the subject, but I know it is.
Also, the guy driving is a homo...because he's driving a 959 and all I have is a poster of a 924.
that's a kit car - the engine sounds wrong - the 959 has a very distinctive and "tame" engine note, muted by the twin turbos, the rear proportions are a bit off, and the seats are not 959 seats, as well as other missing components in the interior. I've spent too much time working on two 959s - and that ain't a 959.
btw, 959s are 100% LEGAL to import into the US. That's a kitted air-cooled 911, nothing more.
Yep just another fake. I find the engine noise gives away most fakes because the 959 is a very very quiet sound as you say, you almost cannot believe that it's such an amazing car.
Well, I did a little research and found that this guy Bruce Canepa had a big hand in ushering the 959 through US DOT standards. Apparently he makes his own engine and exhaust modifications, which actually increases the horsepower figures from the original. So yours is actually faster? Then my apologies lashss, I was wrong. Actually, it gives me a glimmer of hope of one day owning one myself--albiet a small one :)
ChronoLegionX, no apologies needed at all. I'm glad that you empowered yourself with real knowledge and the desire to learn the truth. This is an example of an encouraged individual putting aside opinion, rumour and speculation to triumph above adversity. I will use you as an example to pimple faced, 12 yr old exotic car experts on Youtube to illustrate a valuable lesson. Time is valuable, you can't land on fractions, and long live the legacy of Francisco Scaramanga.
Well, truth is, I jumped the gun with my little lecture...I didn't mean to sound like a pompous jackass, but that's exactly how I came off. In either case I'm glad someone finally got around to making this Porsche icon available for Americans to enjoy. The 959 was a showcase of technology when it was first unveiled, and is arguably the most beautiful Porsche of the modern era. You are truly lucky.
what an amazing display or jealousy from the comments below. it makes owning an exotic car all the more fun. what a shame they cant contain themselves and simply appreciate it. ignorance. they only wish they could pull up to their job at best buy with that car,or touch that girl without a dollar in their hand...lol
More than likely the car itself is a replica model made here in the US. Genuine 959's are simply not legal in the US under our crash-test standards (they were actually never crash tested here because Porsche did not want to fork over six of them for US testing) Nowadays the testing could theoretically be done with computer models. As for the girl: its clear to me that you are no car enthusiast and are simply stroking your ego. If it were my 959 her ass would never touch that seat.
Chief, you've got some homework to do...start by calling Bruce Canepa in SoCal ,then US DOT in Washington, D.C. to confirm whether 959s are legal here or not. What sources are you quoting, or better yet, are you a Customs/DOT agent? Are you a grey market importer or federalizing organization? If not, I don't quite understand your credentials regarding this subject. Exercise some limits on your information monologues...preferrably where your experience ends.
By past DOT standards, they're not unless you register them as a collector's car, and then they're not road legal. If this is a genuine car, how did you get it cleared for import? Porsche never made a US-legal version of the car. In California I am aware there is a company which retrofits them with DOT-legal front fascias, and another that builds outright REPLICAS. No, I'm not a DOT agent, merely a car enthusiast. So if this standard has changed, then I apologize forthwith for my monologue.
u people are all real smart. fuck oh well but that car is nice but its more than a nice car for that guy but a show off thing by the looks of it and i dont think its geune the interor is mising instrements on the dsh bored
That's not true. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and there is a Brown 959 owned by a guy in Dayton, Ohio. It is street legal and driven to and from shows all the time in the area. Bill Gates is also said to have one. There are a few of these in the country.
HerrKuhn928, are you doubting the 16 yr old DOT, EPA, US Federalization experts on Youtube? You need to check your facts chief! These kids read Maxim and Stuff magazine for all of their US Customs importation regulation laws. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I love Youtube!
I have personally seen two real Porsche 959s in the country. On at Rennsport reunion in 2001 and one that is local to this area. Both were being driven on the street. I've stood beside them and seen them with my own two eyes, so yes, they are in the US. Can't comment on how they got in or what was involved, but they are here for sure!
Indeed, I know Rennsport Re has had a few and Canepa in CA always has at least one in his inventory. They have become the federalization experts on the 959. There are more around I'm sure. But, on Youtube, they don't exist in the US...is this an alternate universe? Does gamma radiation not trigger adrenaline secretion on Youtube?
that video makes me sorry to own a porsche 930,that douche rat packing a car like that ,its not a toyota corolla and putting a stripper in the car doesnt exactly make home look like the most sophisticated type, hes the reason why they say people who drive porsches have small penises

The sad truth is that most porsche owners here in germany seem to be pensioners and their wives. Life is unfair.
959 best supercar until the mclaren F1 arrived ..but the most expensive porsche built in series was the GT1 , similar as the 1 who won Le Mans in 1998 .
I had heard that gates tried to get one on the road and couldn't which is nearly as incredible as the car itself(well not even close) that's great news thanks to Billy boy when I get my 959 it's going right on the road. Welp I gotta go sh!t some more diamonds.

its still a pretty nice kit car...if it was me i would just get a late 70s 3.0 911..and do the necessary body mods

We tried but the coil springs on the 3.0 911 were smaller than the original Vette pieces.
Thanks for the compliments. It was a very expensive project.
