Bodie's death was truly the worst one to me. I know he was planning to rat on Marlo, but shit.. This man has matured. I expected Stringer, I expected Deangelo, I expected Omar... but I was not prepared for Bodie's demise.
But like he said "Just don't ask me to live on my fuckin' knees, you know?"
One of the saddest scenes I've ever seen in a show ever. I kept hoping he would at least take out one of them. My jaw was on the floor when he got killed. I can't remember a time where I was on the edge of my seat during a scene in a movie or show like this before.... amazing season finale.
This one hit me really hard. So hard. Bodie was real . A smart young man who I was counting on being one of the few corner men to survive all this. I really thought he would live by the end of the show.
One of my favourite scenes is when Poot comes out and walks to Bodie's corner earlier in the season. Most of us have a friend like that, the intimacy they share was very touching.
Bodie making his last stand on the corner as Chris and Snoop move up and forward, like the Bishops. Bodie, being the Pawn he is, can only move up a spot and stand his ground. And O-Dog rounds the corner to finish him off in an L-formation, like a Knight.
"The pawns, man, in the game, they get capped quick. They be out the game early."
Poot is ridiculously down! He doesn't even have a gun and he stands by his boy in an obvious life or death situation. They going up against KILLERS/GOONS (not just regular corner boys)and he stays by his boys side until his boy makes it clear that 'you don't have to die with me'. Thats just ridiculous! You can't teach THAT kind of loyality. Anybody else would of went into 'self preservation' mode and ran out, but he neglected himself for his loved one! I love how they wrote that into the script
I remember that after he killed Wallace, I HATED Bodie. Hated everything about that hot tempered, ruthless fucker. Yet, somehow by the time he died, he was the most believably sympathetic character I had seen on screen. The death of some hard-assed street thug who I relate to in exactly zero ways had me choked up. I'm still hard-pressed to actually like the guy, but I at least understand a part of his struggle, and it feels real. I had never truly felt a fictional story like that before.
Fuck this, this was THE biggest mistake of The Wire. The whole season was shit, but when they killed Bodie that was the last straw! I mean really, why would you do such a stupid thing?! He's one of the first characters of the show, and magically that idiot comes right on time to see Bodie enter Jimmy's car. WTF HBO!?
@slowriot23 No, when Avon went to prison the second time, that was the end of the good Wire. Before it was about securing drugs from Omar, working on the corner, real gangster shit. And now it's all about: Yo Chris, that nigga looked at Marlo the wrong way. You know what to do. I mean wtf, they killed a whole family because one of them said Marlo is gay.
@ZombieLincoln666 It's not ruthless, it's idiotic. No matter how ruthless a gangster on the street is, he'd never kill somebody for talking shit. He's earning one million dollars a month, and he'd risk all that money just because someone totally irrelevant said he sucks a dick.
@Krme1406 'A gangster on the street will never kill somebody for talking sh*&'??? For real?? You must've never been to NYC, Bmore, South Central, Compton, Long Beach, New Orleans, Chicago, Kingston, Miami, etc. etc. etc.!!!
@yungkirk1 Yeah, today wanna-be's would to that. But considering Marlo is a drug lord that has an income of over 50 million a year, someone like him would never do that. And they'd at least check it before they do it. In the Wire, someone said to Marlo that the guy talked shit about him. And he sends his death squad right away? Hell no!
@Krme1406 You're missing the point of Marlo's crew. All they care about is rep. When Michael asks, "How do you even know if he really said that" they say "It dont matter if he said it. People think he said it." I thought seasons 4 and 5 were awesome. season 4 with the schools and season 5 with the fake serial killer, awesome plots, and of course great characters.
@Sully0020 I still think season 1, 2 and 3 were the best because of the reality. In 1 they portray the drug dealing business, in 2 you got the mafia, drug smugglers and whatnot. In 3 you got the war between the two strongest crews.
@Krme1406 You really could argue for any season being best, they were all that good. i personally liked 3-5 better than 1 and 2, i just found them more entertaining. Such as the final episode of season 4, just unbelievable.
Bodie was the best character after Omar, smart guy who could have been in Daniels or even Rowles' position if he was born on the other side of the tracks. Just watched the end of series 4, hope someone hits Snoop and Chris in seaosn 5, hate them.
"Anybody who spend they time witnessing shit. . . you gonna get got. I know that sounds kinda harsh but that's the way things go around here." -- Bodie, S01E02
This show had some good writers... Bodie basically told the audience he was goin out like this. From the first season. Hard to come by good storytelling, but you know it when you see it.
@DowJones19 If the guys who respect Bodie do for the same reasons as me, then it's not as "sick" as you think. Put it this way, Bodie was 100% true to the game. He was like THAT GUY who would put in work regardless of any other shit going on. Not to mention he was smart and played the game well. I'm sure most of us aren't like "YEHHH HE KILLED WALLACE FUCK YEAH BODIE WOOO", it's literally more respect for him being able to be the soldier he was.
@DowJones19 We all remember him killing Wallace, and your right he had this coming so I wasn't surprised when he finally got his. But you gotta admit that Bodie matured alot sence then. He became more than just a dog that follows orders without question,He became much wiser. That's were the support comes from dude we actually saw his character develop from season one. So need to think of people as morally sick just because they liked how Bodie matured over the course of the series.
Bodie, just like a pawn, is only attacking the assailants approaching him diagonally across the street while being helpless against the coming straight at him from behind. The wire confirmed for the greatest writing ever.
@Srigsby2011 Yo I understand how you feel about him runnin like that, but c'mon that shit was not worth dying for. You can call it pussy or whatever but a spot to sell drugs is not worth dying for. Sure maybe a few people in the hood will respect that, but when that story hits the news(if it does) all everyone is gonna say is "another drug dealer dead, good ridance" No one will give a damn, you'll just be another dead statistic to them. Your kids and kin is worth dying for but not this.
@Srigsby2011 But on the other hand, if poot and Spider had stayed and fought with Bodie they probally would've all survived. Bodie had Chris and snoop pinned down, and if Spider and Poot watched the other side they would've saw O Dog coming and poped his ass. Then it would be 3 vs 2.
@bigblackracoon It wuznt about the corner even though he said it.Bodie wuz tired of marlo killin people like he killed bodie's friend little kevin because he thought he wuz snitchin. After bodie told him to go talk 2 marlo. And as far as what he said about them empty houses.everytime chris and snoop comin 2 kill whoever they dont even fight back they just accept that shit and bodie didnt die like the rest where they put people in vacant houses. He fought back even though it cost him his life!!!!!!!
@fuckya Ah well now that you explain it like that I see Bodie's character in this last scene differently. Thank you because it bothered me to see someone like Bodie who matured and wised up so much through out the series throw his life away for a drug spot.He dide for much more than that now I know. But my argument was that no one knows that he died taking a stand, all they know is another drug dealer died slanging. He could've fled and lived to fight another day, maybe even teamed with Omar.
@bigblackracoon Poot knows he died taking a stand. Who knows. Maybe that's what convinced Poot to go straight and in a way, that's the best gift Bodie could give him.
@bigblackracoon Yeah datz what it wuz about he wuz just tired of the way marlo wuz doing thangs and how he wuz basically bullyin people.Either itz marlo way or a vacant house.Like how marlo bullied bodie into workin 4 him.So if bodie woulda told him no I dont wanna accept ya pack and this is my corner dat woulda been a vacant house 4 bodie because by this season he didnt even have no muscle no protection.I remember bodie tellin slim charles dat I think so or 1 of the other characters!!!!
Almost touching when poot tries to convince Bodie to run and Bod looks at him like ''fuck it im as good as dead leave me to it'' but criminals only go so deep in their bonds with eachother, that cancels out the tragedy factor of this scene
You know who died exactly like a Pawn. He couldn't turn back and run, he had to stand his ground and fight, he even shoots at Chris and Snoop diagonally from where he's standing, not to mention both of them are attacking like Bishops, and finally O-Dog steps forward out of the doorway, then walks straight to him and kills him like a Knight's L shape attack. And of course Marlo the King, is nowhere to be seen he stays out of the battles A great callback to season 1's chess scene
Never understood people who liked Bodie. He killed his own friend just for stature within some bullshit drug orginization. He even berated him first, and didn't kill him immediately so he had to suffer until Poot finished him. Was waiting for him to get his the whole show
@eirikwegga I hated Stringer even more than Bodie for ordering the hit on Wallace, but I felt for Stringer when he was killed just like I felt for Bodie... the lesson of The Wire is that it's the cycle of the streets that creates these situations. If Bodie hadn't killed Wallace, someone else would have. It's not like Stringer lacked soldiers working for him. Few characters are really choosing evil (Marlo comes to mind - he actually does things that don't benefit his status in the drug economy).
Talk about a tactical approach. Silly gang bangers.
If any of them had common sense , or premeditated this, they could have just shot them both in the face with a Ruger 10/22 from like half a block away. Scoped...Of course.
@blizzy00 Have you? Still doesnt change the fact you think you're clever for listing guns they couldnt possibly use and that would change the entire point of Bodies death. And if you watch this show for the gun fights you completely missed the point
You...wouldnt be in a point blank firefight in which you are most likely to be hit, and or die in. However inner City gang bangers do little to no per-meditation before they act. I dont see how i should explain how it would work better. It's common sense. A Scoped rifle allows you to neutralize a target from a distance where you cant even be seen firing. Where as a pistol...you cant do that.
I feel like this would be common sense...i guess not.
they probably didn't expect bodie to fight back -most of the other people they killed accepted their fate. unlike chris and snoop, bodie isn't a particularly good shot and the chances of them dying were slim (plus they were wearing body armour). personally, i think the idea of coming at someone from two sides and using cars for cover then having someone come up behind and cap them in the head is a good one. besides, do you even watch the wire? chris carefully planned everything he did
ha no problem pal, i suppose being as how chris and snoop were gangsters they'd rather be in a firefight than risk getting a reputation of being scared to fight face to face. plus this way is better tv haha
@blizzy00 Well, their approach made perfect sense in the context of the show. The attackers had previously walked 22 people (one at a time) into vacant row-houses and killed them there, so the bodies wouldn't be discovered for a while. People were so scared that they walked to their own deaths without protesting. Chris and Snoop (the attackers) probably didn't expect a fight from the guy on the corner (Bodie), but had the third guy (O-dog) as a back-up plan in case he did.
fuck chris and fuck snoop,,,in real life snoop got arrested 4 sellin heroine ,her broke ass jk(but she did a lil while ago), good actress but she killed my fav character (sobbing)
Funny, how Bodie got killed for doing the same thing he killed Wallace for doing. ironic how Wallace wasn't gonna go through with it at the end and Bodie was, But he did stand tall unlike Wallace.
@Mellow941 Wallace would have eventually snitched. He just wasnt built for it. The police would keep pressing him and he wouldve broke down. He got killed because he made the wrong move. Same with the guy from season 2 on the docks. he was ABOUT to snitch but once he heard they deal the greeks were gona cut for his son he decided not to. The Greeks didnt hear "o he decided not to snitch" they only heard the first part which is "he's going to snitch" which is the wrong move.
Fuck i hate this show i loved it first but then dee angelo died and stringer bell and BODIE he was my favorite if it wasent for striner bell then marlos crew would not be in the 5 season beacuse thanks to stringer avon barksdale and the top soldiers got locked up. FUCK MARLOS CREW
Why do so many people say that "Poot left Bodie to die"? Poot didn't have a gun and Bodie wasn't gonna leave his corner, what was he supposed to do? If he stayed, he would have just died doing nothing.
O DOG WAS TRYING TO COPY A WEST COAST PERSONS NAME THAT IS LAME. ITS FUNNY WE NEVER ACTUALLY SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM IN THE LAST EPISODE WHO WAS HIS LEADER AKA BOSS.
LIKE I SAID KILL CHRIS SNOOP AND MARLO O DOG WOULD HAVE ONLY KILLED FOR STUPIDITY WHAT KIND OF A WORLD IS THAT OH YEAH IT IS THE WIRE GREAT FUCKING SHOW BUT BAD SCRIPT WRITERS TO SHOW REALITY.
NOW LOOKING BACK ON IT ALL OF MARLOS PEOPLE ALL ENDED UP DEAD OR IN FEDERAL PRISON. BODIE SHOULD HAVE HIRED SOME LIGHT WEITGHT MUSCLE TO KILL CHRIS SNOOP AND MARLO HE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE AND STILL HAVE NOT ONLY ONE CORNER BUT MAYBE EVEN TWO OMAR WAS ANOTHER STORY HE HAD ENEMIES BUT BODIE HE COULD HAVE MADE IT WORK SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TAKE BACK WHAT WAS TAKEN FROM YOU IN A VIOLENT MANNER BODIE HAD IT IN HIM.
I HATE ALL THIS SHIT KILLING OVER SOMETHING YOU COULD HAVE TAKEN INTO YOUR HANDS A WHILE AGO. EXAMPLE: BODIE MIGHT HAVE ONLY HAD A SMALL CORNER BUT IF HE WANTED MORE THAN HE COULD HAVE JUST TAKEN IT ALL HANDS DOWN. MARLO ONLY HAD LIKE 7 PEOPLE IN HIS CREW DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA FOR A STREET THUG HOW EASY THAT WOULD BE TO KILL THEME OFF. MARLO WAS WEEK HE HAD OTHERS DO HIS WORK FOR HIM. SPIDER POOT & BODIE COULD HAVE HIRED SOME GUYS TO DO IT THENE IT IS THERES FOR THE TAKING. MAKES NO SINCE??
Terrible reality of black youth. I remember in the first season how the judge let bodie go because he thought he had potential to make something of himself but bodie stayed in the game. You live the life of a pawn you die a pawn.
@Tanker940 Poot is also standing diagonally behind Bodie, which could be seen as an allied pawn supporting him. He runs away and leaves him as an isolated pawn right before he's shot.
Ideally, he wouldn't of died; however, if he has to go, that's the way to go down. The only thing that would of made it better would to have taken Snoop or Chris or both of them out before.
This was one of my favorite scenes, Bodie was like fuck that they not puttin me in no vacant...like them other dumb mufuckas who just camly walk with them down alleys and into vacant houses I'm like Bodie you gotta kill me here in front of everybody
Damn when wallace got smoked i got worked up and couldnt wait for the moment that bodie might get served but throughout the seasons bodie grew on me and then when he got his it had me mad shook
For anyone who's ever lived in a big city, it's crazy when you think about the grand scheme of blocks in a city...it's all like one big ass chessboard....so these cats are literally almost born into the game....
When i first saw this scene I was terrified. Damn, not Bodie! After that I watched it 4 times in a row. It' a great scene. I love it when the camera zooms on Bodie standing at the corner. Williams acts great, too.
one of the saddest scenes. Too bad bodie had to go. For me, bodie was my favorite character, omar, bubbles and mcnulty weren't far behind but bodie was real man.
Bodie is more comparable to Bunny Colvin in this scene than anyone else. He gets fucked by the system he lives in, like the system fucks Stringer when he tries to challenge it. He challenges the rules of the game. But the system won't tolerate him. Look how he is killed. Even when he stands his ground and fights he is shot from behind without seeing his killer. Injustice and intolerance awaits those who challenge the institutions.
PabzGLRP got it right, it was mirror of Wallace's death. Stringer was as ruthless as Marlo when it came down to it, they just had different overall objectives. Colvin gets fucked, but everyone gets fucked. I guess Herc plays a good hand in the end, Carver comes off well, but will always be threatened by his bad record in Narcotics. Probably Rawls and Carcetti are the real winners, even though Carcetti loses because his pysche gets more and more meglomaniacal following his take on Hamsterdam.
@ 1:05 you can see how both of 'em know that this is their last time seeing each other so Bodie taps him on the shoulder and knods to him like go on without me..
Bodie hated the way Marlo was just "killing because he could" - that was against the rules, and against Bodie's code. Bodie wouldn't snitch on anyone on his corner - because again, they had obeyed his percieved rules, and didn't break the code. Bodie's deagth goes to show - the game has no rules, or code. There is no honour, only money.
Compare this scene to the school storyline, it just shows that these kids are trapped. You can;t get out the game once you're in. "The game is rigged" - Bodie
Bodie was 1 of my favorite characters on the show. I was super pissed when he got killed off even though i knew it was coming. As the new characters came in you saw how they were taking the place of the one's before the the cycle continued. I MISS THIS SHOW IT WAS THE BEST.
''ONLY A FOOL FIGHTS A BATTLE THEY KNOW THEY CAN'T WIN'' alot of people in the wire met their demise because they let eomtions take control this is why marlo was my favorite character even doh he was a bastard he was SMART and CALM one bodie was a soldier but a little to hasty R I P.
FUUUCCCCCK MAN YOOOO MAN MAKE HIM DIE MORE LIKE A FUCKEN G AT LEAST IF THEY WERE GONNA MAKE HIM DIE IN THE FUCKEN SHOW MAN HE WAS THE MOST G"D UP CHARACTER KILLS HIM FROM FUCKEN BEHIND MAN SHIT THATS FUCKEN GAY
you guys notice this all goes back to the chess game? as mentioned in season 1 and revitalized again earlier this episode (season 4 episode 12) bodie speaks about chess, the pawns specifically, which bodie was, and knew he was
snoop and chris were bishops (notice they attack diagonally?) and then the dude who gets bodie is a knight, moving in L formation, doneing bodie off like a pawn.
@Jintamil I totally agree. The script was beautiful in this show...its one thing to watch it, but reading between the lines and understanding how the characters lives fit so well with the script was amazing. I absolutely loved this show.

Your kids and kin is worth dying for but not this.
bigblackracoon 4 months ago
@Srigsby2011 But on the other hand, if poot and Spider had stayed and fought with Bodie they probally would've all survived. Bodie had Chris and snoop pinned down, and if Spider and Poot watched the other side they would've saw O Dog coming and poped his ass. Then it would be 3 vs 2.
bigblackracoon 4 months ago
@bigblackracoon It wuznt about the corner even though he said it.Bodie wuz tired of marlo killin people like he killed bodie's friend little kevin because he thought he wuz snitchin. After bodie told him to go talk 2 marlo. And as far as what he said about them empty houses.everytime chris and snoop comin 2 kill whoever they dont even fight back they just accept that shit and bodie didnt die like the rest where they put people in vacant houses. He fought back even though it cost him his life!!!!!!!
fuckya 3 months ago
@fuckya Ah well now that you explain it like that I see Bodie's character in this last scene differently. Thank you because it bothered me to see someone like Bodie who matured and wised up so much through out the series throw his life away for a drug spot.He dide for much more than that now I know. But my argument was that no one knows that he died taking a stand, all they know is another drug dealer died slanging. He could've fled and lived to fight another day, maybe even teamed with Omar.
bigblackracoon 3 months ago
@bigblackracoon Poot knows he died taking a stand. Who knows. Maybe that's what convinced Poot to go straight and in a way, that's the best gift Bodie could give him.
323guiltyspark 3 months ago

Was waiting for him to get his the whole show
eirikwegga 4 months ago
@eirikwegga I hated Stringer even more than Bodie for ordering the hit on Wallace, but I felt for Stringer when he was killed just like I felt for Bodie... the lesson of The Wire is that it's the cycle of the streets that creates these situations. If Bodie hadn't killed Wallace, someone else would have. It's not like Stringer lacked soldiers working for him. Few characters are really choosing evil (Marlo comes to mind - he actually does things that don't benefit his status in the drug economy).
ravenouscolonelhart 4 months ago
@ravenouscolonelhart Marlo really was the epitome of chaotic evil. Like Bodie (I think) said, he was just killing for the sake of killing.

Talk about a tactical approach. Silly gang bangers.
If any of them had common sense , or premeditated this, they could have just shot them both in the face with a Ruger 10/22 from like half a block away. Scoped...Of course.

@blizzy00
how would that work any better than this approach?
decaffinatedoysters 4 months ago
@decaffinatedoysters
I feel like this would be common sense...i guess not.
blizzy00 4 months ago
@blizzy00
they probably didn't expect bodie to fight back -most of the other people they killed accepted their fate. unlike chris and snoop, bodie isn't a particularly good shot and the chances of them dying were slim (plus they were wearing body armour). personally, i think the idea of coming at someone from two sides and using cars for cover then having someone come up behind and cap them in the head is a good one. besides, do you even watch the wire? chris carefully planned everything he did
decaffinatedoysters 4 months ago
@decaffinatedoysters
THANK you for responding with a logical response. and not just " Ur a fag " or something.
blizzy00 4 months ago
@blizzy00
ha no problem pal, i suppose being as how chris and snoop were gangsters they'd rather be in a firefight than risk getting a reputation of being scared to fight face to face. plus this way is better tv haha
decaffinatedoysters 4 months ago
@blizzy00 Well, their approach made perfect sense in the context of the show. The attackers had previously walked 22 people (one at a time) into vacant row-houses and killed them there, so the bodies wouldn't be discovered for a while. People were so scared that they walked to their own deaths without protesting. Chris and Snoop (the attackers) probably didn't expect a fight from the guy on the corner (Bodie), but had the third guy (O-dog) as a back-up plan in case he did.

jknightteen 5 months ago
@Mellow941 Wallace would have eventually snitched. He just wasnt built for it. The police would keep pressing him and he wouldve broke down. He got killed because he made the wrong move. Same with the guy from season 2 on the docks. he was ABOUT to snitch but once he heard they deal the greeks were gona cut for his son he decided not to. The Greeks didnt hear "o he decided not to snitch" they only heard the first part which is "he's going to snitch" which is the wrong move.

MrHennessy30 8 months ago
PabzGLRP got it right, it was mirror of Wallace's death. Stringer was as ruthless as Marlo when it came down to it, they just had different overall objectives. Colvin gets fucked, but everyone gets fucked. I guess Herc plays a good hand in the end, Carver comes off well, but will always be threatened by his bad record in Narcotics. Probably Rawls and Carcetti are the real winners, even though Carcetti loses because his pysche gets more and more meglomaniacal following his take on Hamsterdam.
DEC0RAX0 8 months ago

Shikady 9 months ago
Bodie hated the way Marlo was just "killing because he could" - that was against the rules, and against Bodie's code. Bodie wouldn't snitch on anyone on his corner - because again, they had obeyed his percieved rules, and didn't break the code. Bodie's deagth goes to show - the game has no rules, or code. There is no honour, only money.
Compare this scene to the school storyline, it just shows that these kids are trapped. You can;t get out the game once you're in. "The game is rigged" - Bodie

you guys notice this all goes back to the chess game? as mentioned in season 1 and revitalized again earlier this episode (season 4 episode 12) bodie speaks about chess, the pawns specifically, which bodie was, and knew he was
snoop and chris were bishops (notice they attack diagonally?) and then the dude who gets bodie is a knight, moving in L formation, doneing bodie off like a pawn.
this show is amazin
