yo.. the hard drive brushless motors are good for Power generation, run the 3 phaze wires through some diodes and a cap, you'll get power.. pull string flash lights use the same motors for generation.
if i can get big ones ill try to make it run off of a rc engine that i have but i know a place where i can get giant old dead hard drives for $3 that have BIG brushless motors in them. But these little pussy drives are nothing compered to older or server drives out there
not older.. NEWER.. the Windings make the difference when it comes to RPM's.. 10k rpm drives, or 15k rpm drives are ultra fast.. most out there are 5.4k or even 5k rpm drives..
get a hard drive, find where the motor output is, if there is 4 phase/wires its still ok, take it apart and remove the head and see if it still runs, then find a motor that has 3 phase with 9 poles or 9 windings then get the 3 wires and connect them on to the hard drive board you can connect it anyway you can and it will still run but only 3 out of 4 will work so try connecting it and test it if it doesn't spin up try other wires
oh i thought you said you scrapped them my bad.. some people do get all the metals off chips but its very hard and takes time and makes a bad smoke that can kill over time
well i meant scrapped as by taking it all apart and using parts to play with or for other things and yes lead, silicon and mercury is very dangerous from chips and stuff
Gyro effects? Lol, it's called Inertia...

like i said i can get server drives with 15k rpms dead ones for $3 to a $1 mostly like 10gb ones

yes, unfortunately, the faster the drive, the smaller the max size..

ey man, can you please show how you use the controller to run the stepper motor please?

do scrap them for real? do you get good money for floppy drives?
DannysCam 2 years ago
what? i get almost all my computer stuff for free and i only sold some stuff i mostly throw them away since its old and people dont want to buy them

E-scrap is worth recycling, I did it for years when electric motor and die cast aluminum scrap was worth a lot of money.
Aussie50 2 years ago
i do scrapping of metals and starters and aluminum but i here theres money in getting the metal out of the inside of the chips but its very hard
DannysCam 2 years ago
yeah, some ppl have played with gold recovery systems over here but the running/EPA costs and regulations have ruined that industry.
its too hard and expensive to do it the save and legal way. otherwise your just exposing yourself to lead, mercury, arsenic etc.. :(
If the scrap biz hadn't hit rock bottom last year I'd prolly have my own recycling facility by now.
I'l just stick to high-value scrap like Aircons and industrial electronics.
