I would second the sponge rollers. I've never tried them, but I've seen a few girls on YT who use them in their tuts. Maybe give that a try.

Also, you can "dirty" up your hair with a fine mist hairspray to help the style stay full as you style.

Hi, I second the thing on dirtying up your hair... The way i do it is with a mousse kind of substance I bought at a hair salon in the US... Then blowdry my hair completely as i want it (sleek look) so that if the updo doesn't work, I can always let it down without looking like an idiot ;-) But the mousse really thickens my hair and the blowdrying gives a lot of volume
