I got this book for Christmas! I'm working towards becoming an animator for Disney, hopefully 2D animation will still continue going on, especially after The Princess and the Frog and Pooh Bear. I have nothing against 3D animation at all but 2D animation is where it all started, with the help of a mouse.
One fact that's kept secret is this came out when the studio fell on hard times. Sept. 1979 Don Bluth lead 11 eleven staff member off the lot delaying The Fox & the Hound's release followed by a strike by the remaining staff and the resigning of producer Ron Miller and it would take a decade for the company to recoop it loss.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I especially loved that little bit in the end where they show concept art for "Black Cauldron" I'd never seen before.
Yes there are many i guss. Who dingily want to work in disney. Or be a great animator. N I am one of then i want it so badly since i was 17. but it's only now from last year i acutely doing something to follow my dream. I have joined an animation institute last year only.
ANd every thing in this felled is so exited as i have dreamed of. but it's heard to get the right path all the time.
I saw this movie back in 88 about 3 times in it's re-issue and cried, i even bought it when it finally took it's sweet ass long time to come to video at age 12.
Since I was a teenager I wanted to work for disney animation. Even though it paid like $12. My dreams smashed by the socialist facist Bush trash that is destroying America and the fat lazy trash that supported it.
I really hope the Walt Disney Company hasn't thrown these old programs in the trash. I would love to see a Vault Disney Channel, because it's pretty obvious that the teeny bopper culture isn't going away.
OMG!!! They "no no" movie got a TV special!!! Why oh why did Disney forsake you Black Cauldron? Oh that slump era... I certainly hope the one that's going on now doesn't kill their animation... hoping Princess and the Frog will get the magic ball rolling again...
I want to be a voice artist for Disney, voice acting look so fun, I have watched enough Disney movies ever since I can remember, and I think I could do it, I am 26 years old, so I have a rich developed voice, I am a singer I started voice lessons age age 5 so, I can speak clearly and sing clearly as well, my teacher was from Juliard so I had the best! WHERE DO I SIGN!
By the way, I love Hayley Mills, so is so cute, what a beautfiul woman, I love her voice!
Yes, Hayley Mills played Miss Bliss in an older version of Saved by the Bell. Originally it was going to be about a teacher and her students, Hayley being that teacher. The characters became popular enough that the show was retooled so it would be based around them, and the rest is 80's sitcom history
i wunna work for disney so badly, i know i could.... guess i just have to continue working as hard as i already am, is there anybody else out there that wants to be a disney artist like me?????
If only I could draw I would die to make my own Fantasia! Good luck, hopefully I will be enjoying your animations in the future - do not disappoint me! xXx
I spend all my free time working on animation cels of my favorite scenes of all my favorite disney movies and making backgrounds for it. also workin on animated short...sort of tribute to the great walt disney and disney heritage....
so i guess you can say...yes, i want to be a disney artist like you :D
ever since i was little I have been facinated with Disney. I still am. My dream for a couple years now has been to work on a Disney film. It is the only thing I have ever wanted to do.
@TheArtistAddict i do! since i was 2! literally! but it will be a lot harder for me since i live...."farther than you've travelled, I'm sure..." but i do have the skill...just needs a loooot more hard work and learning!
@TheArtistAddict I would have loved to work for them while they still created 2D animations, though now it seems everyone is turning to 3D, trying to catch up with PIXAR. I wish someone would continue 2D; hand-drawn animation is an art.
@TheArtistAddict I do so much. Drawing has been my passion for my entire life. Ive always loved Disney and the wonderful animation they do. Its my dream
@TheArtistAddict i dont really want to work for disney per say, but i do want to be a great animator someday, disney just doesnt seem like tha way for me. Still.. i hope it works out for you and ill be praying that it does
@TheArtistAddict Go apply to Cal Arts if you are in high school. Otherwise build up a portfolio, get your stuff in festivals, or apply for internships at the animation studios. You can make you dreams happen if you have the courage to pursue them.
cars was based on that style. you should watch the behind the scenes! BTW there's a another dvd about the illusion of life and frank and ollie life called "Frank and Ollie" is really awesome!!!
I remember that special, Hayley Mills was 30 years old where she hosted that, she did 5 Disney films, and then went to other films like "The Trouble With Angels" along with other British films like "The Family Way", "Twisted Nerve", a horror film and so many other foreign films. She went back to Disney in 1981 for that special.

They really didn't do the Black Cauldron right.
There's nothing distinct about it, Gurgi the only memorable character is laid to waste as an after thought only to reappear at the end of the movie.
