  • You're welcome! It's a glorious song, collected in Dorset in 1906, although the last verse was added by Chris While to try and give it a happy ending. I've always interpreted the 'hove a bullet' bit to mean that the young man travelled home as fast as a bullet, i.e. as quickly as possible. Presumably you've heard the Nic Jones original?
