Where did you get your rat? I am trying to find a breeder but having no luck. I want to go a visit them and hold one because I have never held one before. Anyway, I don't want one from a petstore. They don't socialize them very well.
TOO cute. I've got a small enclosed plastic hamster tank with a ramp and shelf in it that I put plain water in the lower part with frozen peas floating around. I pop them in on the shelf, and they'll tale themselves down the ramp to have a paddle and chase the peas. it's really cute
this is just so sublime that you can hardly here me for squealing in adoration.
@Sabybiker It's okay to bathe them with soap and water, but not too often. About once every 2 weeks is as frequent as I would wash them. Any more then that, and yeah, their buck grease will not be plentiful enough and their skin will dry out.
Hey everyone can you plz check out my video its call rat in a box infomercial plz comment it our first video that all we ever want is to have comments we will reply also!!
My parents always said rats were filthy and disgusting and no one should keep them as pets. Now, I have video proof that they are wrong, at least about domesticated rats. :)d
That's precious! I had six little girl rats at one point and when it came to bath time four used to cry and moan at me and not be happy until it was time to snuggle in a big towel to dry off (they loved that bit) and two used to like swimming around the bathtub, so much so that I'd have to sit and wait for them to finish their swimming and jump out onto my hand! xD
@367candycane Me? No, I'm Louie Gedo. I myself have rescued and cared for rats and mice (as well as other animals) and I can definitely attest that they are as smart, loving, and curious as any cat or dog. Even more remarkable about the mice I rescued off of glue traps is that their will to live is incredible.
@mmissinglink BTW, if you ever come across a mouse on a glue trap, vegetable or nut oil (ie, olive, sesame, safflower, corn, peanut, soybean, etc, etc) is the thing that helps release them from the death-gripping glue. Do not use anything else as other substances may cause severe irritation. But please try to save the mouse if you do find one still alive stuck on a glue trap.
I'm sure if they were watching my 3 girls would comment with "Tinkerbell you're nuts!" but the lady who rescued the 4 boys I have now tells me they enjoy some warm water & soap now & then. That's one seriously cute rattie you have there.
Last time I tried to give rats a bath, my best friend and I each had a rat, and then my niece followed us in their, being ahuge pain(she's 10, the bathroom was already croweded... :P) and my rats jumped strait ot the bathtub, scratched us, and my favorite rat peed on me.
I felt so bad for it... but then we had to rinse them off!
This has to be one of the cutest rat videos I've watched! I love the way he talks to her and how she cleans herself! This video made me giggle and smile like crazy :)
@BunnysiEat Sometimes, if you touch them with food they will try to eat what smells good on your fingers. But I never had a rat bite me angry or anything. When they get angry they just squeak and through tantrums. You dont really have to worry about them biting you. Rats are very lovable and lot!
@zimmermanzs I wonder if you haven't got anything better to do than commenting on all those pet rat and even guinea pig videos. how sad your life must be :)
@zimmermanzs oh, how you must be enjoying yourself posting this on a video made for and by rat lovers. troll.... go and take your shit somewhere else, it doesn't belong here...
@zimmermanzs always one douche bag huh ...well done mate its YOU. Just one thing, if you killed it....it wouldn't be alive when you fed it to your snake. Douche BAG !!!!
can anyone give me advice i already have two female dumbo rats
is it okay to get two males but to keep them in seperate cages from the females.(they will be in the same room) will they fight when the females are in season..i just need advice
@urborg74 You need to ease them into water. Give them the option to step into the water, and put a nice treat into it, and they will sooner or later learn that water is not a dangerous thing (not all rats though, some will still flat out refuse to even step into water)
@urborg74 That's because you have to properly introduce rats into water, slowly and with much patience. The rat will be mortified if you simply place it in the water, especially a tub full of water. It's better to start them off with a tiny pan thats not filled up all the way, let the rat explore on its own time.
Interestingly since Rats are mammals they can be every bit as personable as dogs or cats as pets. Most people don't think of them this way because they only think of Rats and mice as undomesticated. Thanks for posting.
Damn your rats so calm; Mine freaks out when I try to get him wet with lukewarm water. he just runs up my arms. I wish my rat took showers and stuff...
How do you get you're rat to not be so crazy, I got my rat from the pet store when he was 6 weeks old and whenever I hold him he gets really crazy and hides in my hair and trys to eat my fingers even though I feed him all the time o.o
@poppx3 At 8 weeks old our rat seemed pretty scared of us, we couldn't pick him up and he would nibble fingers and toes them causing them to bleed. He didn't attack, but since his teeth were so sharp it would always draw blood. Anyway, we got him a couple of friends of a simiar age after 1 week and after that he seemed to really relax. That was about 2 months ago and now we can pick him up, he doesn't bite and he even climbs up our legs and up onto our shoulders any chance he gets!
@poppx3 I don't know if you got him a friend yet, but that's a start. Just be careful about pet stores; about 80% of their rats have mycoplasma. After a month (no less) in quarantine you can introduce the new guy (not a female!) to your rat. He'll chill out. And also as he gets older. :)
@PostgodAfterbirth all rats have mycoplasma. its a Virus ALL domesticated rats have. your referring to mycoplasma flare ups which vary with a rat's immuin system, reason most rats from breeders almost never have them. in that case yes 80% of pet store rats have really bad mycoplasma flare ups in their lifes, thats how one of my rats died. he had a real bad flare up and the stress gave him a heart attack and he died.
@LightningWolff I'm sorry, that's not true. It's a bacteria, and not one-hundred percent of domestic rats have it. Some stores carry disease-free rats, as an exception but not completely rare; not every litter sold by breeders has mycoplasma. Some breeders breed thousands of litters before they can acquire disease-free lines, but it is done and some of them are sold in stores. The 80% is an estimate, a number that is about the average you find in peer-reviewed research papers.
@PostgodAfterbirth wow you've done little reserch. 1. if thats true then your refering to "common" rats also known as lab ras which are immuin to the virus 20% of the time. 2. it is a virus, but due to selective breeding many rats are now resistant to it, its like how some people are immne to herpies and/or aids. a majority of rats don't show any symptoms of mycoplasam ever in their life because they are resistant to the virus, reason why rats from breeders are "free" of it.
@poppx3 it takes time, rats like to hide in hair though, and are you sure he's eatting your fingers, he could just be grooming you which is a sign of affection. best thing to do is to let him come to you. all of my rats came from petstores (the same one to be exact) took them about a month to trust me. depending on the rat it can take longer or less. took my timid rat Storm about 2 months to trust us, and my spazzy rat Soda about 2 weeks to trust us.
wow, my rats wont go near water. they look at you with the most pitiful face if you try to bath them. and than scrape all the skin off your arm trying to run to safety.....8]
