when mattingly was in his heyday, my brother was the one who got us into Mattingly, back when they used to air 81 games on television he had this great idea, to tape every televised at-bat that mattingly had, i think it lasted like two weeks or so. Unfortunately my brother had a bad habit of taping over stuff constantly, which is what happened. And tom30000 when the fans threw their hats on the field it was their own hats, and was not a promotional night. Pinella pulled his team off the field.
I was at Don Mattingly Day in 1997 and it was the best! Donnie Baseball was my favorite player of all time. I remember watching the 95 hat day and seeing everyone throw their hats on the field. I will never forget it.
Definitely my favorite baseball player of all time...
such a shame his career was plagued with back injuries and was cut short... had it not been it's no doubt he would have put up some of the best numbers of any yankee in history... and that says a lot.

There are so few videos that capture Mattingly in his prime; that is an absolute shame. Surely there are some VHS or Beta tapes out there?

I remember that homerun in the playoffs, even through the TV you could hear how loud the stadium was that night.

newcomers say Girardi's triple in the 96 series or Scotty Bro's HR in GM5 WS '01 but I'll stick with Donnie Baseball's jack

I'll stick with Donnie's homer as well... that was just glory.

He would have been in the Hall of Fame, as well.

Any idea why he wasn't at the closing of Yankee Stadium? The Dodgers could have given him a pass.
