  • HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU DO THAT HOMEMADE SPIDER AND WHAT KIND OF PAPER?!?!? im planning on doing the strongest 5-1/4 subwoofer ever and i don't know how to do the spider. im using a 2 inch voice coil and a nice bigass magnet. biggest the 5-1/4 will be able to hold while barely fitting

    100-150rms WOOT

  • Why not buy a real sub

  • what can that thing handle rms?

  • hey...i got a question....i made a subwoofer.....i used a copper wire that is coated with rubber.....but i tear the rubber and i coil the wire .....it produce a sound but i saw sparks within the coil......can u tell me how to solve this prob......

  • @yazzry ur suppose to use copper with an enamel coating. not bare copper. it short's itself out.

  • @BassDemon420 where can i find that wire....??

  • @yazzry u can buy a voice coil online if you wanted. but i also think you can buy some of this wire at radio shack as well as online. its not very uncommom. but yeah. radio shack and online. wish you best of luck on your project man. personal message me the video link when ur done so i can see. =D

  • @BassDemon420 ohh....thanks man...this was very helpful.....ok will personal message u when i finish doing my project....

  • hey what u use for the magnet

  • oh uh.. sweet... hahah it looks like a fuckin paper plate

  • Hi Bro, I Jus Made Subwoofer Few Days Ago I Don't eXactly Kno Y Itz Not Giving Output Whch Am eXpecting Frm It Coz Sound Coming Frm It Iz Very Low Like No Sound, I 've Used 32 G Wire (Before Tht I Used 30 G & 26 G Wire But Same Prob N OverHeating) & 2Ferrite Magnets And Running On 1500 Watt PMPO Audio System 130+130 RMS, What Yu Think Am I Suppoze To Uze It On Car Amp & If Itz Amp Problem Than Tell Me How Much Watt Amp Should I Buy? Or There Iz Some Other Problem With That, Plz Reply, Thanks

  • @5voodoo5

Its mainly the magnets you're using. Neodymium magnets will work a whole lot better. What ohm is the voice coil you made. 26 awg wire was the best you used. You can try heavier gauge wire if you would like to.

  • @J07C24S88 Thx For Rep Bro,

I Don't 've Multimeter To Check Ohms Actually, I Waz Runnin My Sub Without Car AMP I GuesS Thats The Actual Prob & Jus Played On Home Audio Player And No HeatSink In Magnets, About An Hour Ago I've Purchased Car AMP I'll Try On It, Tho Neodymium Magnets Are Not Available In Here So I Can't Get Any Of Thm, I'll Let Yu Kno SoOn If It Works On Car Amp And I Don't Kno How To Kno The Watts Of My Sub

  • yeah baby jbl 3000watt

  • @darbits2009 nice work

  • and these must be the new powerbass subs,,, at least thats what the cone looks like ,,,but the basket looks like that of the new SMD sub ??? ,,,,

  • where do u get the kind of magnets?

  • pilLZ heaR

  • where you get that magnet wire : please tell me

  • just copper wire

  • I give you a 5 for fooling every 1 bc did any 1 but me notice that the so called sub didn't move at all not even vibrate I know subs and that's not a sub let alone a tweeter that's a good prank though

  • In decription you wrote that you used 26 AWG wire, isn't 30 AWG better?

  • You are way too brilliant to listen to cheezhead music. I hope you are busy in school getting a degree. You've got brains and talent.

. . .but that music. . .no instruments and no singing. . .what's 'musical' about it?

  • It's crunk music... the vocals are to be thought of as more towards the percussion (pitch-less), and the main focus of the music is a steady percussion beat with synthesizer sounds. Music is art. Abstract art is simple to an extent... why can't music be simple?

  • @31Orcas Blues is simple, at least in form. The simplicity is the challenge, to be expressive within the format's limitations. I find most abstract art is just talentless crap. If you are being simple as a choice, to explore it's limits, fine. But most are doing it because they haven't the talent or ability to play an instrument or sing. I don't respect it the same as those who play and sing. I consider it talentless crap. . .but it's a free country, listen to whatever you like.

  • Well, I thank you for respecting my opinion. And I respect your opinion. I disagree, but, thank you for not starting a flame war : ).

    -31Orcas

  • what did u make the spider out of

  • hell yea man, u can do just about anything with duct tape lol

  • самодельный саббуфер)))

  • thats a really nice project

  • damn, sounds really nice. what's the name of the song?

  • Sounds nice? That's true but woofer's box is very important. If it isn't made correctly it sounds crappy. You must have an air hole, but it must be the right size, too big hole-bad bass, too small-farting sound... And box must be the right size...

  • Creativity at its best man. Iv seen alot of your vids, you do good work. I have a basket from an old 12 that I wanted to use and thats about as far as i got.

  • What's the song called

  • Lil Jon - Da Blow

  • wow nice!!

  • thats legit dude

  • the subwoofer wich you made before sound better

    than this

  • nice! it does its job, but not much excursion

check out my homemade subwoofer :)

  • How do you make the voice coil....?

  • copper wire

  • yea lol, thats what I want to know! =D

  • that is awesome,, i'v never seen something like that before,, good job !!!

  • Seriously one of the best homemade subwoofers on youtube. But your soooo soft spoken. It's hard to hear what your saying. Check me out and slap me a few comments and let me know what you think of what I got goin' on. A+

  • could you send me a link to a template for that spider please i would like to make one

  • what gauge wire did you use for the voice coil

  • 22AWG

  • wikid sub....what song are you using to test it?

  • Da Blow - Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz

  • thats cool man, I'm making one right now. I have the voice coil down I just need a big strong magnet haha...doesn't a subwoofer require a capacitor for low frequencies?

  • A capacitor is usually used with a speaker that has a midbass and tweeter. The capacitor filters out lower frequencies which are determined by certain attributes like it's resistance. A subwoofer's EQ is normally regulated by the amplifier powering it, and it would not use a low pass filter from a capacitor. Not attached to the driver anyways.

  • NO a amp is normally used a capacitor is usually used to hold a "charge" from the battery to the amp to help power the amp so the lights in the car don't flicker from battery drainage.

  • There are thousands of types of capacitors and thousands more applications for them. I figured that the person asking the question could initially realize that this was a home audio project and therefore not running off a DC battery. There are capacitors in home audio sub amps too, they are everywhere.. I figured that he meant it like a crossover for the high pass.

  • how much did all of this in the end cost to make?

  • With this one I'll say less than $15. But my most resent one its around $35. to make. The magnets took about $20.00 and the rest to other materials. I all ready had a glue gun and glue sticks for a while. My new sub have just about the same sound that quality brands have, like pioneer, JL, and etc. but low cost to make. If I put more in to it, it can sound just like them. Its very close now and it sound alot better than a number of subs on the market now. Its my everyday sub just because of that

  • this is sweet, i'm gonna try and make one

  • did you try to copy a TC Sounds OEM subwoofer?

  • No it was a design off the top of my head.

  • thank youuuuu

  • I having a really hard time making the surrounds. What should the surround size be, how high should I make the surrounds, and do I put tape on the underside to prevent sticking? Did you use any technique or something? I tried three times and the surrounds ended up messy and too stiff.

  • I made my first and newest surround out strips of paper and tape. I cut the strips of paper the size of a half circle or close to it evenly over the gap of the cone and the basket. Each strip of paper had its own srip of tape and enough to tape it down. Pause the video at 0:20, 1:00, and 1:11. I placed each strip evenly around the cone then put strips of tape on top of each gap. For best excursion have the gap between the cone and the basket at least 1"-1.5" wide.

  • Well, I already made my surrounds... and they honetsly feel like leather. They're made purley of duct tape, two layers with the sticky sides on each other. I made the gap about only a half inch, allowing for about 1" of excursion. It's not much excursion but the cone is 8" so it should put out about 1/2 to 2/3 the bass of a Logitech Z-2300 if it's in a well made ported enclosure. I'm satisfied with the results. It's my first sub, and remember that I'm only 13 making a driver from scratch.

  • Thats good.

Also the second surround I made was made with 3 layers of duct tape and each strip was overlapping each other to make the full surround. It was so stiff it barely moved. Almost no sound came out on the low bass. 2 layers is perfect as long as the cone move with little pressure applied to it then it would have nice efficiency.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Darn. It takes about 2 or 3 pounds of force to move it from end to end. It feels as stiff as somewhere between my efficient Fisher 9's and those hard Rockford Fosgates. It might take up to 30 or 40 watts to move a lot. More professional subs require more watts, so is it sort of good? I wouldn't say it's effecient... but I wouldn't say it'san SPL sub. I'd really have to wait until I get the wire and magnets.

  • Thats O.K. mine is about the same. The surround I was talking about earlier needed a lot of force to move it ~5 pounds or more.

  • Don't SPL subs need like 30 or 40 pounds of force to move? The force of those SPL high excursion subs in insane. I heard that a guy dislocated his finger when he pressed his finger on an RE sub at max excursion. My 4" runs off of 12 watts max, and it needs about 2 pounds of force to push down. I can max it out at about one third volume, but I have a really strong output signal thanks to my powerful sound card that makes every sound system I plug into it seem over-powered.

  • I have no idea but they do need a good amount of force to move the cone.

  • What would you recommend I make the voice coil out of? I don't have duct tape, so it's between masking tape, or PVC electrical tape.

  • I used a paper towel roll. But on my 12" sub a will make it out of a piece of aluminum can.

For the tape I would use both but mainly masking tape.

  • Thank you! So, a mixture of masking tape and PVC electrical tape for a subwoofer surround. That sounds pretty strange if you ask me, LOL.

  • Oh my fault I didn't know it was for the surround. Use electrical tape. I thought it was for the basket.

  • LOL. I think I might get duct tape later today if the price is low enough. There's a store that sells art and sewing supplies (not Micheal's), and they sell duct tape. They even have colored duct tape and I could make mine into a Fusion sub! My Mom loves the green color of the fusion subs. She also thinks that the square Kicker subs are really cool. If she got a subwoofer, she said she'd get a green square Kicker, LOL.

  • That would be cool.

  • was the spidder disgn your own coz that is relly good

  • Yeah.

  • this in your car would wake everybody up

  • oh ok, thnx,, im building a woofer and enclosure and your vids really help,, thnx

  • how did you make the surround?

  • Its made of duct tape. I used 3 layers of it.

  • Well Done! All I can do is replace the surround or Dust Cap on an existing sub... If I had tried that all that would have come out of it probably would have been a fire lol.

  • it looks like a ghetto w7

  • haha yeah xD
