THE LATE steve douglas was the sax player of the wrecking crew you hear him onALL of those west coast tunes he's also heard on duane eddy's recordings
it is produced by gary usher not jim econmides. jim did the flip side the instrumental teen theme for love. i asked chuck girard about it that's how i know
The lead vocalist to this track was Jerry Cole, who at the time was a session player with Phil Spector's 'wrecking crew'. Steve Douglas, a former recording artist for Spector's Philles label was also a session player with the crew, who also became a noted producer. Among those were The Knights, and Lesley Gore.
I REALLY DIG THE ENERGY OF THIS CUT, MY FIRST LISTEN.
You guys did a great job on this.I'm pending my free time learning about that surf scene - I was born in '62 so I missed it somewhat. I REALLY like your vocal characterists! I'm doing a 60s tribute show and gotta include this in our surf set...just learning about The 'Baggys, and you and The Hondells and stuff. I guess I started this new bent when I heard Bruce & Terry's Version of 'Summer means fun'. It ignited me.
Actually...The Knights, The Kickstands, The Hondells, The Superstocks, The Four Speeds, The Ghouls and many others with this same "Hondells sound" were all the same people just recording under different group names and most had records on the charts at the same time as each other. Gary Usher knew how to milk a trend.... :)
@DaddyBog No...the name stayed the same. See my later comment right above Chuck Girard (skubrat) on this thread about all the groups under Gary Usher having the same vocalists.

The arrangement is different, but I'd swear that was Ron Wilson singing this version. The Surfaris covered this too.

THE BEACH BOYS and BRIAN WILSON are not related to this music.
It is recognized that a falsetto voice is CHUCK GIRARD with a lead vocalist.
THE SUPER STOCKS and THE HONNDELLS and THE WRECKING CREW participate, and the remaining member finishes it, but GARY USHER is not related.

This one of the best versions of all that were done by the various acts and studio projects of that glorious time. All hail Gary Usher.

@skubrats if you are still on youtube, i have a question
did you also jam with the wrecking crew?
still amazes me how few people know that most albums during the 60s and 70s were done by the studio musicians
