  • @kira9109 The Legacy is Vai's signature series amps. I have the 2x12 Combo. It's a very loud beast! :)

  • @kira9109 Carvin Legacy was used in this vid.

  • I tried to find your first video with your RGA because I thought you might say what pickups you put in it.

What pickups did you put in it? And are you still able to use the frequency knob?

  • @GuillermoSmyser Stock DiMarzio/IBZ pickups. Mine is a 2005 model before they started putting EMGs in there :).

awesome vid. 5/5. Nice sound too, sounded jst lyk it ;)

  • what make is your guitar?

  • See end credits of vid.

  • It wasn't EVH that did the intro riff.. it was Steve Lukather. EVH only did the solo bits.

  • @quiddz Thank you for someone actually giving Luke credit!! Thank you!

  • RIP MJ, you were a genius! I have always loved this catchy EVH riff! Thanks for the lesson!

  • lets the legend rest in peace...ameen.

  • R.I.P

  • FUCKEN addictive riff :O

  • bad ass video man

what type of guitar do u use

  • Try also playing the G at the 5th fret on the D string, and the D on the 5th fret of the A in both cases with the 4th finger. This way it means you can hammer into the notes with the fourth finger for dynamics. Same notes of course just a different feel.

  • what do you use to record your guitar? its an awesome quality man, really need to know how to do it for my own projects

  • Read the description bro.

  • RIP M-J!

  • damn you're on fire today Hahaha 2 in a row! BOOM!

  • Thanks now I finally know the tune. I always tried to play this in D tuning...

  • Nice!

  • you have an awesome set of guitars, and alawyas manage to get a killer tone on any song you play...

    awesome.

  • Mark what did you tune your guitar to? You said "slightly flat" but what's the note for each string? Thanks. Always never been able to get the tuning right for this riff!

  • i think its just half a step down

  • It's about 1/4 tone-ish flat :)

  • its non chromatic its just slightly flat there isnt a note value

  • okays :) i'll get it :) Thanks

  • i think the riff slides and doesnt stay in 1st position. i think the 3rd note B is on the low E string on the 7th fret. then the G is 5th fret on D string, then the E is on 7th fret of the A string, and the f# E and D following are all on the A string. Thats just what I think is correct. great lessons!

  • It's definitely a hammer, no joining notes when you slow it down. Would need to pin down Lukather to see if he can recall actual positions :), I went for first position as I'm hearing that G as open. Has that extra zing to it.

  • your right i hear the hammer. I guess I play it with that slide on the lower strings to add fatness to the riff. The G is most likely open as well on the album. HAHA sorry. although, I've heard many live versions of this song with the guitarist sliding at least up to the F#....and I still think it sounds better with a slide though! thanks for the response :)

  • awesome lesson and an awesome song to cover

  • What a lesson! best 1 yet mark!

  • excellent 5/5
