  • I guess I'm a tall guy. 6' 2" doesn't seem that tall these days, but for about 35 years now I've been forced to buy and use guitar straps that are too short. Even after adjusting them all the way "out". Is there a way or a contraption that can give me a couple of extra inches? And hold the "that's what she said last night" jokes.

  • @teerexness

Go to my Brookwood Leather website and scroll down toward the bottom of my 'special requests' page. If you're in need of a strap longer than that strip you see me holding, you're out of luck. But you should call Guinness Records to come get your photo ~

  • I would love a video or some text about sheepskin lining. Where do you get it? How do you sew it, if differently? Thanks for your help.

  • @friggingriff44

I'd suggest you google it, I don't know

  • @otaypanky2 Do you not make guitar straps with sheepskin wool on them?

  • @friggingriff44 Most people clip a seam allowance before sewing.

  • @2JobsStillPoorUSA

if you are referring to cutting a stitching groove, I always do. I may not have for this video, I don't recall. But if you look at the photos on my website you will see stitching laid in grooves. Additionally after stitching I burnish the thread down into the groove, top and bottom.

    Thanks for watching

  • @otaypanky2 Sorry, I was replying to FriggingGriff44 about sewing a sheepskin lining. I wasn't very clear but what I meant was they trim the hair away from the seam allowance before sewing it to the foundation leather.

  • @2JobsStillPoorUSA

No problem. I'll go look at their videos.

I sometimes use sheepskin on the underside of my straps. I don't have folded over seams so I don't trim before sewing, I just glue it to the top grain and sew through both. I use shears or an electric hair trimmer to fine shape it after sewing if needed

  • Wow! Other than the audio fading, your video is fantastic. Its so good to still see quality leather work done in America. Great job Sir!

  • @BALDMAXXX

thank You Max.: ) Please take a peek at the 5 part vids I posted on my Channel page. I think you will find them easier to watch and more informative

  • I love your work ! I have not done any leather work in years. I made my strap out of two inch webbing belts . I got them from a thrift store(Salv. Army) ,I like it because you can throw it in the washer when you sweat stain it . but custom leather is the best . I intend on making me one once I get the tools and leather. Thanks for the video .I know I'll be referring to it often.

  • @76301rick

Thanks. I made some lightweight straps of nylon and poly strapping last month, and put nice English bridle leather ends on them. I sent them to GUITARS for VETS . COM A very worthy cause, check 'em out ~

I have some newer videos, 5 parts, that may show you some other ideas.

Thanks for watching and glad if I could help : )

  • ahhhh! I swear to the good lord I want/need one of these straps more than anything :P unfortunately I just aint got the funds :'( whats the cheapest of the padded straps you do buddy?

  • @ravenshield56

don't buy a strap simply because it's the cheapest. Decide what you want and order it when you are able to comfortably afford it ~

There's a pricing page posted on my website Raven

  • @otaypanky2 sorry, its just I cant get any more money untill may, which is a hella way off :/

  • Very cool! Thanks for sharing your great tecniques with us. You are a real pro!

I wish I had a workshop like yours.

  • @MuddyShoesBB

Thanks for the kind words. I have newer leatherwork videos that are a bit better

  • you should post a ebay account here on the video

  • @milkmextian

Thanks milkmextian but I don't sell on ebay. I have a website, but I am not allowed to post it here in these messages. But you should be able to find it quite easily , just look on my YouTube channel home page, there's a link posted : )

  • do you sell to the UK?? :DDPD i realllyy want one now :p

  • @ravenshield56

    yes, of course.

No problem shipping to the U.K. I'd love to make one for you ~

  • Your straps are beautiful. How do finish the backside? Is it left untreated?

  • @texrednface

    Thanks : )

You can leave it plain or finish it with soft chap leather, suede, top grain leather, sheepskin ~

Poke around my website , lots of photos.

  • what size (edge) beveler do you use on this?

  • @ChrisvonChamier I use sizes 2 through 5, depends on the leather and what I am doing. Sometimes a French edge

  • That is some of the best dye work and finish I have ever seen. Do you do much tooling on the leather or mainly colored straps?

  • Thanks Originalirishman, I do some carving, mostly monograms. Also when covering an entire strap I use a stamped pattern. I have some pictured on my website

You might enjoy seeing the more recent 5 part videos I have posted : )

  • what company did you say you get that roll of hide from? couldn't understand that part

  • @smartandsane

    Wickett and Craig

  • great videos! you do fine work my friend, just curious what do you use for your working surface?

  • Heavy rubber pads I got from Tandy. It's expensive, but I couldn't source it anywhere else. It saves my blades ~

  • i can't find the prices anywhere on the website. where can i see the prices, or can you tell me here?

  • All of my straps are made to order brownbigb, they range from $79 to $200

    Thanks for looking ~

  • @otaypanky2 i knew they are made to order, i just couldn't find a price list to even put it in a range. that's actually pretty reasonable. thank you for the info.

  • yeah, although each one is different, the most popular choices among players average $120-$140

  • @otaypanky2 i posted your website on a forum called burlapandbluesdotcom. turns out one of the members met you last year at the Philly guitar show, but lost your business card. he was really happy that i posted it.

  • WoW! Thank you so much !

It must have been the N.Y. Amp show, that's actually held in Piscataway, N.J. if it was me that he met. I have never been to the one near Philly held in King of Prussia, Pa.

The N.Y. Amp Show will be two days in June this year ~

  • @otaypanky2 you're welcome. he's pretty good at remembering, so i'm sure it's you that he met. he writes reviews for some guitar websites. check it out. burlapandbluesdotcom. of course substitute the dot with a period :)

  • Did you also make your own belts for your pants :D

  • Yes, I did

  • I admire your work. There is an intensive labour in a single strap.

I don't have enough knowledge about lethers, but my father was making masks, statues, jewellery and picture frames from leather by dampenin-draining.

But I love the leather smell, whish I have leather strap for my guitars...

  • Great work, I'll make you a new video in exchange for a strap

  • The audio in this is very awry

  • I can make nice straps, my guitar playing is the best I can do, and my recording skills I admit are poor.

So just turn your speakers off ~

It's not like you paid admission.

  • I would've, these are some damn gorgeous straps.

  • Great viseo, can you please tell me what type of cutting board is the best, laying pattern over leather to cut?? w/o damaging the blade or cutting board too much?

    Thanks....

  • Your voice sounds just like Bruce Brown from the Endless Summer movies! I am talking the wife into getting me one for my birthday.

  • It would be my pleasure to make you one Scott : )

  • WOW. That's what i call "Hand made". I need one.

    Greetings from Germany.

  • Those are some beautiful straps! works of art brother :)

  • Excellent video, and beautiful workmanship. Well done!

  • : )

  • Nice straps.

Random Factoid: In India, you would be an untouchable!

  • Hey thanks Hoops

  • FYI: The untouchable status would be because you're a leather worker, which is a no-no in India.

  • I was curious, but that's probably only one of many reasons in my case : )

  • Fantastic straps, great video!

  • cool
