U do know thats how coyotes kill dogs? 1 goes in and "plays"/ lures the dog away from its territory where the rest of the coyote pack jumps in and kills the dog for food.. Hence why the coyote darts in the trees and comes back when the dog doesn't follow.
Maybe the coyote is trying to lull Lulu into a false sense of security before it leads Lulu out into the woods to be gang raped and eaten by the rest of its pack.
@VoodooPolitico And that has happened before...more times than most people know. Lulu's playing, but there's no reason to assume that the coyote is. If there's even 1 or 2 more coyotes in the brush, they'll kill Lulu if he can be lured in the brush. No question.
If you wait, your child might be next! You don't know coyotes, they are dangerous, not a pet. They carry rabies, ect. When they come to your home, protect it and your family. If a robber came to your home, what would you do?
Calm down. The only way a Coyote is even dangerous is when food is scarce and they're forced to scavenge and go for the closest thing. Or if they're rabid.
I paced a coyote at just under 40mph in my car ago and it was on asphalt. . For sure they are fast especially when u consider that they don't have the length of a greyhound or saluki but can almost go just as fast. A coyote can outrun most domestic dogs.
I would have shot that damn varmit before he come back with his buddies or attacked one of my kids. Then that would have been something the city folk could whinn about.
Around here, Southern Alberta Ca, coyotes go singly into yards to draw a dog out to its buddies, making a nice tastey 'hot' dog meal. Usually it's the bitch that goes in and draw them out, one in heat is their speciality. Farm dogs have no chance against coyotes, only if they stay cose to home. This coyote, either stupid or brave to come in the yard.
@Ritercrazy Were from northern BC.. and the coyotes were luring in my dogs just the other day.. my dogs would not stop barking which usually when they bark at something they stop.. so i went to check it out and got to the top of our hill that goes to our hay field (It was already cut) and theres 3 coyotes chasing my dog. luckily i was there and scared those dumb things away or else i wouldnt be seeing that dog alive again.
I have a video someplace of 4 or 5 river otters in Yellowstone playing with a coyote. They can be very playful sometimes. When the otters were done they went back into the river. The coyote didn't want the fun to end and followed them in. At anytime he could have grabbed 1 but didn't.
I also have to say...I don't think a coyote is intelligent enough to "lure" a dog to it's pack mates...if anything the coyote gets spooked and does what it would do in any situation where it was spooked...run back to it's family for support. You guys are villainizing and guilty of anthropomorphisism. That 5 ounce brain won't be plotting capers any time soon. Also coyotes prefer small dogs. Coyotes often mate with domestic dogs...can't imagine mating with a happy meal...
coyote will kill anything that cant defend itself. if u try to chase and scare one be sure not to stop and get scared yourself. they will simply avoid you and come right back and can pick up on your fear. im not an expert but if u are please please please tell people how dangerous these animals are. in california they kill numerous PETS such as dogs and cats and even confront people. theyll kill ur loved ones and leave their blood trail and scattered remains, and youll wonder were is my dog?
yotes hunt in packs an alone just depends around here in sc there is plenty to eat but they will still come to our coon dogs treed an attack if u aint careful. un less a yote is in heat thats the only way they are ever gonna play with a dog the rest of the time they sizin up dinner
you do realize that Lulu is definately playing and the coyote is not being aggresive. No reason to shoot, just enjoy the show. This is beautiful, not dangerous
I'd have let my .45 play with him that close to my house... What if it was your kids outside instead of Lulu...??? Or maybe I would have just let the 7mm Mag rip and blow it to pieces...
Very interesting vid. We have lots of coyotes on our property and they DO hunt in packs. I have to agree: the coyote doesn't appear to be truly playing. Body language is too stiff and skittish. Coyote bitches will lure males out to a waiting pack, it's true. They don't call em Wile E. for nothin'. Lulu, being young and trusting, had no way of knowing that some animals have to fight for their food.
Hmmm Wrong on Coyotes not hunting in packs comment. It might not be typical but I have them hunting in packs a few times in WY. Also females in heat have been known to lure dogs out of yards to an awaiting pack in these parts as well. Once again while this may not be typical it sure as hell happens on occasion.

By the looks of things you have a dog fence in your yard, which probably saved your dogs life. I agree with whitney311, that one coyote could have very easily killed your dog if it wanted to. To most, they look cute but in reality they are lowly land sharks that virtually eat anything! I recommend keeping a close eye on your dog and don't allow this interaction to happen if you can.

Also, having your yard fenced in could have been a disaster. Had the coyote been pissed or hungry, it could have attacked the dog with no escape. Neither the dog or the coyote were interested in harming the other, though, so that's alright. I would be more scared of my dog getting parvo or distemper from being outside.
If a coyote was even in my yard i would put a .223 round right in its fuckin face, but if it was messin with my dog and then has the balls to lay down in my yard , i would have to make it personal with my .44!
I love how the dog was the one that was bouncing around like an idiot, trying to get the 'yote to play with it, yet people still get their panties in a bunch and cry out that the coyote was attacking the dog(or some shit).
@dakota21790 Hmmm, sounds like you are violent towards innocent animals. I'm thinking you shouldn't be allowed to have a dog and you should also seek therapy.
@lisalrocks I think you sound like a person that shouldn't have a pet. Dakota said that if a coyote came into his yard he'd shoot it. Which you can do and I have down. Or if it was messing with his dog it be personal. Natural thing to say about someone that owns and loves their doggie. Nothing wrong with defending the things you love and love you.
@dakota21790 The Coyote was playing with the dog... just playing no one got hurt... after all they are both dogs, just 1 is wild and the other isnt but what kind of loser would get a freakin gun to kill this animal? Your an idiot u just dont kill an animal for the 4 of it.
@99charged In my experience, one reason people like this keep guns is to compensate for other inadequacies. Guns give you a sense of power over others. Those with particularly large deficits may feel the need to brag about shooting animals. This is how you prove your manhood to yourself, and others supposedly.
@dextermcgrubbin huh thats funny. Your sayin the reason i like guns is because i like power, not for the fact that i target practice or go hunting no its to strick fear in to others. Oh your just a funny one arent you you know how the human brain works dont you.
@dakota21790 You speak like such a refined individual. I hope that someday I, too, can learn to express my opinions with such eloquence and class as you.
@dakota21790 Why? That's pointless aggression towards an animal that is causing no visible harm to property or persons. I'm all for hunting and killing pest animals, but, if the animal isn't being a pest and you're not going to eat it, don't shoot it.
Dear tards coyotes are not pack animals and do not hunt as wolves do. Dam thing was playing with the mutt , and I'm allmost sure it was only due to the fact that the dog was female.
@explosiveInc This is wrong. Mainly, they hunt in pairs. Sometimes, it's a lot more. I've been watching a lot of these videos and every time the Coyote "plays" with a dog, they are always trying to lure them into the dark or into the forest.
@explosiveInc They will hunt in small packs of two or three animals. I know people who've had their dogs lured away and killed by coyotes, and they use this very tactic.
Lol. That coyote is not playing. Coyotes use a luring technique, and this is exactly what you see in this vid. I wouldn't be surprised if 3 or 4 other coyotes were waiting near by.
It didn't wanna play with Lulu, it wanted to have Lulu for breakfast.
they not tougher than a scrappy dog ,, ofcourse they will kill smaller dogs i dont think it could just go in and kill this dog like some you coyote expertts seem to think ... nobody ever taught my dog how to fight ,, it could fight very well though.. lol i know it would win in a fight with a coyote... you ask for it if you leave small dogs out in their country ..
ummmm coyotes are pack hunters! That coyote was luring the dog with play to the rest of the pack to be eaten! You are soooo lucky that your dog didnt chase after it!
actually coyotes usually hunt in pairs and sometimes in groups of threes or fours. Their diet consists mostly of small mammals like rats and squirrels. Despite what you might have heard coyotes would normally not attack a dog of this size.
@whitney311 I think you are spot on. I have cousins in Alberta who farm. Coyotes are forever coming up to the house when the dogs are chained there, wanting to play. The first time it happened the second night the pack came back and killed the dog. Dogs sleep indoors now!
@whitney311 that would be a negitive. coyotes do not run in packs like wolves do and if that coyote wanted it could have killed that dog in like 2 seconds it would not lead it off in to the woods and anbush its ass. it would have killed it and the drug it off and eatin it
@whitney311 Actually coyotes will only hunt in mated pairs and are solo hunters, but you are right that this coyote had more interest in eating Lulu than playing with her. That's not because the coyote is evil, but because it's hungry, and that's what hungry predators do.
@whitney311 Not necessarily. Coyotes and dogs do sometimes just play. I've know two different people here in Arizona who have had coyotes show up on a regular basis on their ranches/homes and play with their dogs- for YEARS with no fights or attacks. One should be cautious, I agree, but sometimes they do actually just play. Or rarely, they even mate and produce coydogs!
@whitney311 actually coyotes are not pack hunters... they are mostly solitary hunters unless they have a mate or pups. Wolves on the other hand are pack hunters and known to do that. that coyote was just having some fun...
Once again, another clueless dog owner has under estimated what a coyote (a naturally born predator) can do to a domestic house pet... i wonder if the owner will video tape it's dog being drug into the woods and eatin alive... ?
They are really playing, both of them, that dog is too big to be in danger against a coyote. there would be a problem only if your dog was smaller or if it was a Wolf instead of a Coyote.
@BlueFighter50 Young lady? AHHH! You're one of those patronizing psuedo intellectuals that scours youtube eh? Did you follow the coyotes? Did you see the pack there waiting?
Your beloved dog was clearly retarded, like yourself.
To all of you WOULD BE EXPERTS, the whole Coyote luring dogs into the woods where a pack awaits, that's generally a rumor. Try looking up for incidents of any such thing occurring that has any actual evidence to the fact. And yotes wouldn't dare try that shit on bigger dogs, like GSDs. I've got one myself, and I'm sure he'd tear that Coyote to pieces given the chance.
@HerpGoddess you are naive! It happens all the time! Let me guess you live in the city and have all your life and know absolutely nothing about wild animals!
@HerpGoddess I guarantee you that if you leave your dog with 2 coyotes in general good health. Provide an environment where the coyote's aren't worried you will shoot them. Then within 8 hours your GSD not only will be dead, but will be coming out the other end in the form of a log
The species has used cunning and wit to frustrate predator control efforts by governmental agencies since the first bounty legislation was enacted in 1825 by the state of Missouri.
The coyote has increased its range almost with a sense of humor. Experienced coyotes will dig up traps, flip them over, and mark them with urine and scat. Biologists have learned what the Native Americans have know for thousands of years.
Respond to this video... As Native America lore pointed out, even though Coyote often gets killed in his misadventures, he never dies—a trait that real-life coyotes seems to share, sometimes much to the chagrin of ranchers and trappers. As an adult, the animal weighs between 20 and 50 pounds. It measures some four feet in length, including a 12- to 16-inch long tail. Reddish gray in color with a buff underside, the coyote resembles a medium-sized dog. However, its yellow eyes,
Respond to this video... It can cruise at an easy lope of 25 to 30 miles per hour; reach speeds up to 40 miles per hour in short bursts. So it will run circles around your silly rifle. I bet if you try to shoot it sum'bitch will catch yer friggin bullet in its teeth. Like my post before, Natives say it don't die...so it dont die
You can so tell that Coyote was annoyed and just wanted to get on with eating that poor pup. At the .45 mark she was about that make her move too. Can't you tell she is trying to get the dog away from the house? Shoot that thing.
i love coyotes but you gotta know when they are acting like that they are looking for food watch how that coyote is acting trying to luring your dog its i well known trick i have seen it many times
may look like fun and games but that coyote was luring your dog away from the house so the pack can get it trust me on that...... next time u see a coyote shoot it my personal opinion
never is no need to kill the coyote, why? Only kill when needed, its a crime against nature to kill otherwise. It Yes keep your dog current on shots, don;t listen to the scardy cats telling you to kill or lock the dog into a life chained to the 4 foot radius of a pathetic that most people sentence their animals too. You want to run your dogg and good for yo
@whitney311 Should we then bend all aspects of nature when it imposes even the slightest inconvenience in our lives. So that humans abomination of nature "dogs" can run unbound by the realities of life. So I choose to be responsible in my outlook on the natural balance of life. Next you will be complaining there is too many rats and mice are everywhere. This is the unintended consequence of human trying to balance stuff with their limited insight and overbearing philosophy. But you understand?
@sidewindermack You gotta love how people freak out about "normal" animal interaction. The memory of humans having to co-exist with Lions on the planes has long been gone from our collective memory so we can fit useless fears in its stead. Coyote's will lure, smart dogs whom are confident in their "pack" will chase off only as protection. Most wont be drawn too far away from their ow
What you are doing is dangerous. That is a wild animal, not another dog. Yes, coyotes are smart enough to lure out dogs. Usually though they are animals of opportunity. Its not extremely common but they will go after people, livestock and dogs. I personally would not allow my dog to do this, nor do I think you would think its cute if your dog ends up being killed cause the wildlife is doing what its meant to do...be wild!
Coyotes are not intelligent enough to "lure" anything. They chase and kill prey. If a dog was ever killed after chasing a Coyote it's because the Coyote ran back to it's mate/pack and they assisted it. That Coyote smells something (trash, food inside the house, something) and while trying to investigate the dog's attempts to play with it spook it. Nevertheless Coyotes could carry disease and you shouldn't let your dog become pals with one.
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom WRONG! this is exactly what this coyote is doing. they lure dogs by playing with them. the coyote is clearly trying to get the dog to chase it into the woods, where there is a pack waiting. no single dog will defeat a pack of coyotes. clearly the coyote makes several glances toward the treeline. it is a very common and well known tactic of coyotes.
@roxybuddychanel. Do you own sheep? Ever use a herding dog or flock guardian? One good Old English Sheepdog will keep a pack or pair of coyotes out of sheep. Dogs are bigger and have more courage than coyotes. Wild animals are all cowards, brave animals die, shy, quiet animals who run live to reproduce. A coyote who is hurt dies in the woods. A dog who is hurt is doctored and fed...they can afford to be brave therefore they are. This is why a dog bred to protect will win.
(continuationpost) My dog would chase and the other 2 coyotes would follow from behind. With amazing closing speed they would run behind and try to hobble her achiles. When she turned to fend off that one, chasing it the other 2 would trail. She wouldn't mind my commands and I noticed she tightened up her game 2 she would fake like she was chasing on and abruptly pivot catching one of the trailers offguard, Never coming in physical contact but scaring it nonetheless. Finally we able to stiop it
My Sharpei/Lab mix was hiking with me in the greenbelt her nose really active like she tracking something. Suddenly 3 coyotes pounced on her. The male jumped on her back, shadow immediately 180 and to my surprise ripped a nice fluff of hair from the male as he easily elevated and literally walked across the tops of the chaparell to escape and regroup with refined tactics hungry for revenge. They continued a 3 pronged attack where one would come and face off, like the above where they run.

Maybe the coyote is trying to lull Lulu into a false sense of security before it leads Lulu out into the woods to be gang raped and eaten by the rest of its pack.

@VoodooPolitico ;) You got that right! Coyotes do this all the time when they hunt dogs.
jc208132 1 month ago
@VoodooPolitico And that has happened before...more times than most people know. Lulu's playing, but there's no reason to assume that the coyote is. If there's even 1 or 2 more coyotes in the brush, they'll kill Lulu if he can be lured in the brush. No question.

If you wait, your child might be next! You don't know coyotes, they are dangerous, not a pet. They carry rabies, ect. When they come to your home, protect it and your family. If a robber came to your home, what would you do?
arkons1961 4 months ago

At anytime he could have grabbed 1 but didn't.
starfire35 7 months ago

Lowly land sharks?
VERY beautiful use of opinion!

@99charged In my experience, one reason people like this keep guns is to compensate for other inadequacies. Guns give you a sense of power over others. Those with particularly large deficits may feel the need to brag about shooting animals. This is how you prove your manhood to yourself, and others supposedly.

@whitney311 Actually coyotes will only hunt in mated pairs and are solo hunters, but you are right that this coyote had more interest in eating Lulu than playing with her. That's not because the coyote is evil, but because it's hungry, and that's what hungry predators do.

Try looking up for incidents of any such thing occurring that has any actual evidence to the fact. And yotes wouldn't dare try that shit on bigger dogs, like GSDs. I've got one myself, and I'm sure he'd tear that Coyote to pieces given the chance.

Gatorwrastler 1 year ago
Respond to this video... As Native America lore pointed out, even though Coyote often gets killed in his misadventures, he never dies—a trait that real-life coyotes seems to share, sometimes much to the chagrin of ranchers and trappers. As an adult, the animal weighs between 20 and 50 pounds. It measures some four feet in length, including a 12- to 16-inch long tail. Reddish gray in color with a buff underside, the coyote resembles a medium-sized dog. However, its yellow eyes,

Gatorwrastler 1 year ago
What you are doing is dangerous. That is a wild animal, not another dog. Yes, coyotes are smart enough to lure out dogs. Usually though they are animals of opportunity. Its not extremely common but they will go after people, livestock and dogs. I personally would not allow my dog to do this, nor do I think you would think its cute if your dog ends up being killed cause the wildlife is doing what its meant to do...be wild!

Also...on a side note...if your dog is able to be eaten by a Coyote...and you have it outside alone a lot? Get a bigger dog who's not a pansy, lol.
K9ProSportUSAdotcom 1 year ago
Coyotes are not intelligent enough to "lure" anything. They chase and kill prey. If a dog was ever killed after chasing a Coyote it's because the Coyote ran back to it's mate/pack and they assisted it. That Coyote smells something (trash, food inside the house, something) and while trying to investigate the dog's attempts to play with it spook it. Nevertheless Coyotes could carry disease and you shouldn't let your dog become pals with one.
K9ProSportUSAdotcom 1 year ago
@K9ProSportUSAdotcom WRONG! this is exactly what this coyote is doing. they lure dogs by playing with them. the coyote is clearly trying to get the dog to chase it into the woods, where there is a pack waiting. no single dog will defeat a pack of coyotes. clearly the coyote makes several glances toward the treeline. it is a very common and well known tactic of coyotes.
roxybuddychanel 1 year ago
@roxybuddychanel. Do you own sheep? Ever use a herding dog or flock guardian? One good Old English Sheepdog will keep a pack or pair of coyotes out of sheep. Dogs are bigger and have more courage than coyotes. Wild animals are all cowards, brave animals die, shy, quiet animals who run live to reproduce. A coyote who is hurt dies in the woods. A dog who is hurt is doctored and fed...they can afford to be brave therefore they are. This is why a dog bred to protect will win.
