I've never liked bands with a main vocalist that did nothing but sing. Not saying it is a hard and fast rule, but pick up a guitar or something. There has been only one exception, and that is if it is Perry Farrell.
I have to say, I always found this band to be completely bizzaro, most especially Perry Farrell - but I have to admit, they made some MF'kn awesome music. Agree completely, they don't make them like this any more.
@seannelson1969 .. holy shit, are you serious? Will you say hello to my ma? Will you pay a visit to her? She was an artist, just as you were. I'd have introduced you to her. She would take me out on Sundays. We'd go laughing through the garbage. She repaired legs like a doctor On the kitchen chairs we sat on. She was unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were...
@seannelson1969.. I figured something had to have happened to his mother, but had no idea how tragic it was, especially with him being three years old. The lyrics I posted, sadly, make a lot of sense now. Wow.
Major goosebumps @ 3:51. I remember watching this live on MTV. Saw them 22 days later at their ENIT festival in San Francisco. Utmost ridiculousness. So grateful for Jane's, what a band.
It's amazing how when I was 18 to around 30 it was about Stop, No One's Leaving, Ain't No Right, Obvious, Been Caught Stealing. But now I'm 36 it's about Three Days, Then She Did, Of Course, Classic Girl. Purely brilliant.
I was lucky enough to be at this show, i remembered this as being just stellar. It is so very excellent when your memory is consistent with the actual event
Out of all the live concert footage I've watched on Youtube, I'd have to say that this particular one is by far the most intimate and raw. Crowd participation ruled, just an awesome show!!
I saw Jane's Addiction 4 or 5 times in the 90's. I clearly remember thinking Perry Farrell was the closest I'd ever get to witnessing a shaman. I watch this video and I continue to believe that.
Fucking awesome- that whole album- man- pure fucking genius... from beginning to end, not to be reviewed or compared- just to remain timeless as the measure of what music genius can be- Ritual De Lo Habitual............
All choked up and crying too. This is why I own a music studio and on the path of making music like this. The 1990s was the best: Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumkins, Nirvana, Tool, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam I SAW ALL of THEM.
LONG LIVE ROCK-n-ROLL !! Believe me when I say THE REAL DEAL is COMING BACK !
Cobain, Corgan and Hendrix accepted Jesus Christ. They all used Fender. I think JESUS is the source of GREAT ROCK !
This song and video is amazing!! They are human and not human at the same time! It moves through almost every emotion minus hate. Love, agression, passion, sadness, happiness. Very moving. That's the great thing about Jane's- the songs transcend you to wonderful places.
This song is such an emotional piece. I listened to it while walking to a friends funeral in the winter. It will always be personal to me, thanks Perry & Co but sorry for your loss.
one of the single greatest pieces of music ever written.. i have heard this song a million times and still get goosebumps.. i could hear it a million more, (and probably will..), and still get goosebumps..
I've nothing against him. I guess it's just the fact that he's not Eric. And he doesn't seem to be an artist who could really appreciate the magic of his position or the depth of the music. Of course this is total judgement based upon the fact that I don't know the man. Not usually my style but whatever. He's not Eric. Doesn't fit in.
fuck flea. he doesn't deserve to be a part of this magic. he's just a clown. janes are beyond shock value. it's no act. and they pull it off with finess and style. this is one of my favorite janes songs and what a great recording. they hold my knob. i'll bet!
Perry's pupils are as big as the black spots on the peacock feathers he was wearing in his hair. There is so much passion towards the end of this performance it brings tears to my eyes! I grew up with Janes and used to listen to "Ritual de lo Habitual" when I was riding my bike at 5am delivering newspapers on cassette with my walkman, it was otherworldly.
Janes at their best. Not their best era, but this is on fire. Astonishingly good, and as inspiring as Ritual was twenty years ago. Shit! Twenty years, and it still rips the ass out of anything else.
Flea is great!! but what ever happend to Erik Avery? he is great too. I wish personality conflicts could not interfer with the music!! great song and show!!
@23corby Perry wanted 50 percent of The cash from day one when they signed and eric got pissed thinking it all should be split 4 ways. Perry held out, they gave in, eric was rightfully pissed from the begining.
Amazing song! The lyrics are sad as they draw a parallel between the overdose death of Perry's friend Xiola Bleu, and the suicide of his mother when he was very young:
@drewper73 Yeah, he was my main influence on drums. I got to hang out with him in LA in '99. He, Mike Watt and Peter DiStefano used to play gigs at this place called 14 Below in Santa Monica under the band name "Hellride". Aside from being a bad-ass drummer; Stephen is also a very cool, down-to-earth dude. Hangin' out with him (my hero basically) is definitely one of the very high points in my whole life.
@salvinni Yeah... the version you are talking about was from their last tour with Eric Avery in '91 (the first Lollapalooza). I have a box set called "Addicted" with that concert on it. That CD is all one concert. I forget the location where it was recorded though. I'll have to dig it out and post it on here. Though it obviously won't include the video; I'm sure a lot of fans would love just to hear the audio. You're right... the "reverend" Perry sure can give a good "sermon".
@salvinni The "sermon" says: "Do you know someone who is dead... like I do... like I do... well don't worry about your head... the way I see it... it's not how you die, or when you die, it's just the way that you die... don't wanna die of old age... I wanna die doing something I love to do (wonder what he was talking about there)...you know that would be alright by me... that would be alright by me"
Absolutely fucking beautiful! Jane's Addiction came, ruled and the aftermath continues! This and Three Days (amongst many others) are timeless classics!
Sinplemente increible!!,semean puesto los vellos de punta, pedazo de tema, los dioses de musica sin duda.ritual de lo habitual no tiene ni una jodida mala cancion.
Beautifull song. What I cant understand is why current artists dont use dynamics like this. If you play heavy all the time its no good. Play soft all the time, no good. Just use both in very song and then you have something.
I remember when they did this concert. I've followed Jane's since the first album. I was so excited about this reunion (relapse, as Dave called it), that during the break I ran outside to smoke. Forgot about the stairs. Ran right off them like a cartoon, and slammed face-first into the sidewalk. Looked real pretty going into my office the next morning.

1 of the top 3 songs they wrote, its soooo fckn deep, trancelike.
It was written w/ Perrys mother and Daves mother in mind.
Neither died of natural causes.
But when u know how they passed, this song is just soo touching.
This is a good version, but there is another version, has'nt hit youtube yet.
He talks to the crowd about dying, in the break.
"Do you know......do you know some1 who is dead ....like i do,like i do".
Anyways its a good rant and the band is dead nuts.
