  • I've never liked bands with a main vocalist that did nothing but sing. Not saying it is a hard and fast rule, but pick up a guitar or something. There has been only one exception, and that is if it is Perry Farrell.

  • Whoa... incredible performance on all parts... Power to Creativity.

  • I have to say, I always found this band to be completely bizzaro, most especially Perry Farrell - but I have to admit, they made some MF'kn awesome music. Agree completely, they don't make them like this any more.

  • You dont hear much melodic and heavy guitar together in much songs anymore. Definitely a talented group!!

  • wow. that ending...

  • Surprised I don't see a comment here that this song is about his mom whom killed herself when he was just 3

  • @seannelson1969 .. holy shit, are you serious? Will you say hello to my ma? Will you pay a visit to her? She was an artist, just as you were. I'd have introduced you to her. She would take me out on Sundays. We'd go laughing through the garbage. She repaired legs like a doctor On the kitchen chairs we sat on. She was unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were. Unhappy, just as you were...
  • @seannelson1969.. I figured something had to have happened to his mother, but had no idea how tragic it was, especially with him being three years old. The lyrics I posted, sadly, make a lot of sense now. Wow.

  • nothing has changed from thousands of years,....

  • With FLea on Bass???!!!!!! WTF?!!!

  • @inkompleet78 Right?? Flea was in Jane's for a little while during offtime with the chili peppers

  • ..If Your Not Part of the Freaks, Your Part of the Bordom...CHOOSE WHICH SIDE YOUR ON....

  • @DrummerDave77

    *YOU'RE*

  • did they really play this is Chicago last week?? I hope so, I"m going OCT 21!!

  • @jjcad1 see ya there dude.

  • Perry emotes with his voice like Hendrix did with his guitar...no one could match his melody, power and creativity within the use of his voice

  • Janes is the last origional Rock Band.

  • the most amazing band that ever lived. i would give my soul to have seen them back in the 90's. still would give it to see them now hehe.

  • i wish JA played in the background of my life that would be sweet as shit just cruzing around with this would be awesome

  • To this day I am speechless

  • What a stage presence, all three of em. Fucking Rockstars.

and no, they don't make em like this anymore.

  • @stevebok

  • HOLY FUCK! i have finally found the greatest and most mystical amazing video on youtube.com. thank you. I have seen my god(s).

  • wish i was there

  • I am speechless

  • perry reminds me a bit of frank zappa

  • Eric A . . . .

  • Such smart writing, composing and performing. They don't make them like this anymore. Absolutely brilliant.

  • It's a beautiful song, dammitt!!

  • Major goosebumps @ 3:51. I remember watching this live on MTV. Saw them 22 days later at their ENIT festival in San Francisco. Utmost ridiculousness. So grateful for Jane's, what a band.

  • at 7:10 perry makes his best al bundy face

  • eric avery will always own this song

  • FUCKING FLEAAAAAA YEAHHHHH!!!

  • Lo mas supremo !!!!!!! TREMENDO REGISTRO EN VIVO !!!!!!

    GRACIAAASSSS eXfirestarter2 THANK YOU !!!!!

Esta es quizas la mejor presentacion de Jane's en vivo !!!!!!

Perry estaba como nunca !!!!! Muy emocionante y muy emotivo !!!!!

  • It's amazing how when I was 18 to around 30 it was about Stop, No One's Leaving, Ain't No Right, Obvious, Been Caught Stealing. But now I'm 36 it's about Three Days, Then She Did, Of Course, Classic Girl. Purely brilliant.

  • @clarkreznor yeah know what u mean !! i m the same now except i'm 45 !!

  • I was lucky enough to be at this show, i remembered this as being just stellar. It is so very excellent when your memory is consistent with the actual event

  • Out of all the live concert footage I've watched on Youtube, I'd have to say that this particular one is by far the most intimate and raw. Crowd participation ruled, just an awesome show!!

  • I saw Jane's Addiction 4 or 5 times in the 90's. I clearly remember thinking Perry Farrell was the closest I'd ever get to witnessing a shaman. I watch this video and I continue to believe that.

  • Fucking awesome- that whole album- man- pure fucking genius... from beginning to end, not to be reviewed or compared- just to remain timeless as the measure of what music genius can be- Ritual De Lo Habitual............

  • All choked up and crying too. This is why I own a music studio and on the path of making music like this. The 1990s was the best: Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumkins, Nirvana, Tool, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam I SAW ALL of THEM.

LONG LIVE ROCK-n-ROLL !! Believe me when I say THE REAL DEAL is COMING BACK !

Cobain, Corgan and Hendrix accepted Jesus Christ. They all used Fender. I think JESUS is the source of GREAT ROCK !

  • flea from the peppers sounds killer

  • Welcome to Ft. Laud. Fl.....nothing more to say, except, hey, Perry, keep da stoke, we do! Peace, from Dania Pier!

  • @jsmarema I saw them a couple year ago at the Cruzan in WPB

  • Goose bumps!

  • I love this song. It's so beautiful.

  • Pure genius.

  • This song and video is amazing!! They are human and not human at the same time! It moves through almost every emotion minus hate. Love, agression, passion, sadness, happiness. Very moving. That's the great thing about Jane's- the songs transcend you to wonderful places.

  • that bass sounds soo awesome!!!

  • This song is such an emotional piece. I listened to it while walking to a friends funeral in the winter. It will always be personal to me, thanks Perry & Co but sorry for your loss.

  • one of the single greatest pieces of music ever written.. i have heard this song a million times and still get goosebumps.. i could hear it a million more, (and probably will..), and still get goosebumps..

  • @BooGyrl13 fully agree..if this doesnt move you, there is something wrong with you. ritual is just the most stunning album ever. genius.

  • Just imagine what a great singer Perry would have been if he weren't tone deaf.

  • I'm going to show my age and say that there really isn't MUSIC like this made anymore. THANKS FOR ONE OF THE BEST POSTS on youtube.

  • @mitcky AGREE

  • Shortly after wrapping up this tour Perry would change his name back to Jewy Bernstein, marry an asian succubus and forget he was ever a cool guy.

  • I had this same show recorded on VHS tape from back in '97 and I still listen to it all the time. This song is just the best at the end.

  • I've nothing against him. I guess it's just the fact that he's not Eric. And he doesn't seem to be an artist who could really appreciate the magic of his position or the depth of the music. Of course this is total judgement based upon the fact that I don't know the man. Not usually my style but whatever. He's not Eric. Doesn't fit in.

  • fuck flea. he doesn't deserve to be a part of this magic. he's just a clown. janes are beyond shock value. it's no act. and they pull it off with finess and style. this is one of my favorite janes songs and what a great recording. they hold my knob. i'll bet!

  • @payzia what do you have against flea? he's such a talented bassist.

  • Love this video....love Flea but miss Eric Avery...conflicting emotions here.

  • just awsome. a fantastick song.

  • Perry's pupils are as big as the black spots on the peacock feathers he was wearing in his hair. There is so much passion towards the end of this performance it brings tears to my eyes! I grew up with Janes and used to listen to "Ritual de lo Habitual" when I was riding my bike at 5am delivering newspapers on cassette with my walkman, it was otherworldly.

  • Hands down the most beautiful song Jane's Addiction ever wrote. A candidate for my favorite song ever!

  • Janes at their best. Not their best era, but this is on fire. Astonishingly good, and as inspiring as Ritual was twenty years ago. Shit! Twenty years, and it still rips the ass out of anything else.

  • Now the nameless dwell.

  • Comment removed

  • This is one of my best songs ever and I think this is the best JA live vid ever. What an incredible show.

  • Flea is great!! but what ever happend to Erik Avery? he is great too. I wish personality conflicts could not interfer with the music!! great song and show!!

  • @23corby Perry wanted 50 percent of The cash from day one when they signed and eric got pissed thinking it all should be split 4 ways. Perry held out, they gave in, eric was rightfully pissed from the begining.

  • Amazing song! The lyrics are sad as they draw a parallel between the overdose death of Perry's friend Xiola Bleu, and the suicide of his mother when he was very young:

"Will you say hello to my ma?

Will you pay a visit to her?

She was an artist just as you were

I'd have introduced you to her...

She was unhappy just as you were

    unhappy just as you were"

  • gotta love the perrys fashion sense

  • we should all club together and buy a time machine...

  • Slightly sad, then compelling, then powerfull, then glorious. Makes you glad to be alive.

  • legendary riff

  • this song raises my Kundalini ~*~

  • ahhhh so nice. love this.

  • Stephen Perkins rocks! What a huge influence on my drumming!

  • @drewper73 Yeah, he was my main influence on drums. I got to hang out with him in LA in '99. He, Mike Watt and Peter DiStefano used to play gigs at this place called 14 Below in Santa Monica under the band name "Hellride". Aside from being a bad-ass drummer; Stephen is also a very cool, down-to-earth dude. Hangin' out with him (my hero basically) is definitely one of the very high points in my whole life.

  • knowing the subj matter, this really made me tear up. such passion.

  • favorite band and song 20 years later

  • @BRYONMU YES! ME TOO!!!

  • This has amazing memories for me. A truly beautiful song. Blissful.

  • IS THAT FLEA?!!?

  • @ronnyim12345 yup

  • palooza jim rose circus poor little pope pontchatrain

I can hear them now... oh no he didn't... Oh yes he did

Rush Caravan 2o10 just in time for the BP oil Spill

  • 1 of the top 3 songs they wrote, its soooo fckn deep, trancelike.

It was written w/ Perrys mother and Daves mother in mind.

    Neither died of natural causes.

But when u know how they passed, this song is just soo touching.

This is a good version, but there is another version, has'nt hit youtube yet.

He talks to the crowd about dying, in the break.

"Do you know......do you know some1 who is dead ....like i do,like i do".

Anyways its a good rant and the band is dead nuts.

  • @salvinni Yeah... the version you are talking about was from their last tour with Eric Avery in '91 (the first Lollapalooza). I have a box set called "Addicted" with that concert on it. That CD is all one concert. I forget the location where it was recorded though. I'll have to dig it out and post it on here. Though it obviously won't include the video; I'm sure a lot of fans would love just to hear the audio. You're right... the "reverend" Perry sure can give a good "sermon".

  • @salvinni The "sermon" says: "Do you know someone who is dead... like I do... like I do... well don't worry about your head... the way I see it... it's not how you die, or when you die, it's just the way that you die... don't wanna die of old age... I wanna die doing something I love to do (wonder what he was talking about there)...you know that would be alright by me... that would be alright by me"

  • One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

  • this must be the best verson of this song i've heard

  • Probablemente su mejor gira.

  • fucking beautiful: love Janes Addiction

  • Absolutely fucking beautiful! Jane's Addiction came, ruled and the aftermath continues! This and Three Days (amongst many others) are timeless classics!

  • Probably my favorite JA song.

  • 4:46.increible

  • Beautiful fucking song

  • awsome

  • Sinplemente increible!!,semean puesto los vellos de punta, pedazo de tema, los dioses de musica sin duda.ritual de lo habitual no tiene ni una jodida mala cancion.

  • has anyone mentioned how unreal FLEA is...he's a musical spirit that flows in every persons soul when you listen to his bass...

  • Beautifull song. What I cant understand is why current artists dont use dynamics like this. If you play heavy all the time its no good. Play soft all the time, no good. Just use both in very song and then you have something.

  • I was somewhere in that crowd nice and trippy!

    Fucking fantastic show=)

  • I LOVE Perry Farrell's voice ! He's so sexy.... : )))

  • Fantastic song and performance ... arm hairs are standing stragiht up

  • @Sheccan mine too! : )

  • this song is out of control... simply amazing..

  • Amen brother amen.

  • This is one of the most dramatic songs and performances I've seen. Awesomely inspiring...

  • One of the greatest rock songs of all times. A mighty powerful tune. Amazing live performance by the guys. Relapse tour was the peak of their game

  • The end gets me every time.

  • @sjfan1 one of the greatest endings ive heard ever

  • @kerinion69

    Completely agreed.

  • I remember when they did this concert. I've followed Jane's since the first album. I was so excited about this reunion (relapse, as Dave called it), that during the break I ran outside to smoke. Forgot about the stairs. Ran right off them like a cartoon, and slammed face-first into the sidewalk. Looked real pretty going into my office the next morning.

  • el ultimo artista

  • Love this song. My best acid trip was listening to this song while watching a sunrise on the beach in fort laudedale and a huge water sprout formed over ocean. Fan-tas-tic!

  • man i'm fuckin crying right now... ah damn, i got drunk and listened to this song again. it's just, the most beautiful piece of music i've ever heard...

  • @methanandamide I hear ya man. i'm getin drunk too! and this song is the cream in my coffee!

  • is this the greatest song or what! been a fav of mine for 20 years!

  • Love this song, band. Always amazed when I meet people who have never heard them. Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful, beautiful song....

  • i soo love this song.....and i dont fancy dave but he looks soo sexy playing the guitar to this

  • No matter how you wanna call this genre, this is poetry. And stays poetry. Everything is just perfect. I'm floating with them.

  • That song put me in a nice little trance. Unreal

  • Special, special song ...... gives me the chills to this day. The MOST underrated band of all time. They just don't get the respect they should.

  • Best Jane's song ever, I was at both of these shows, epic.

  • Beautiful. I think Perry wore the same outfit when they played Detroit. Relapse tour was oh so good.

    mmmhmmm

    <3

  • perry's a man of wisdom. also deep sorrow, for those who don't know this little ditty is dedicated to his friend xiola blue who over-dosed on heroin in 1985 he also incorporates his mother into the song who committed suicide in 1962 when perry was only 3 years old. don't believe me? check the facts.

  • beautiful song though. almost brings tears to my eyes

  • Favorite song of all time. i feel so sorry for kids today who don't have great music like this. They should issue a copy of this album to every kid in school. The world would be better off.

  • This guys are great musicians

  • This is my favourite song of all time.

  • beatifull...

  • I love Perry's hair. I want to be him.

  • Saw the VA show the other night. This was one of the best tunes. What a great show.

  • pocos kelimotxos con los colegas en casa katastrofff

  • Man, I wish Flea wasn't there!!

  • lol@trident 7:55

  • Who was it who said that quote about "if your not part of the freaks your part of the boredom"?

  • who cares! JUST BE A FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The most fucking beautiful JA song ever!!! Truly, truly beautiful!! I think this captures just how talented the four of them really were in terms of making music.

  • "she was unhappy just as you were". hey hey. always been one of my favourites. thanks for posting!

  • Saw them last night in Palm Beach. They did this song. Incredible. All original members.

  • i remember the day this song clicked.. its just, explosions

  • yeah this is one of those that takes a while to click. And when it does, you're hooked for life.

  • Wonderful song, wonderful.

  • flashbacks keep my life spinning . Oh my goodness. Be young forever..

  • I've been listening to this song for almost 18 years now...It sounds just like the first time...simple and plain perfection....

  • too good.

  • Sounds Led Zeppelin "Rain Song" influenced.

  • "burned out grass....scorched by the sun..the buildings remain!"

Beautiful. Ritual is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.

  • i couldn't agree more...early 90's were great days....

  • Awesome!

  • Pure Art Beauty. can't wait till they roll through my town this spring.

  • Such a Good version of a Great Tune!

    Have this on the VHS.

  • i love these comments all positive no negativity and i agree with all of them

    peace

  • Man what a great band!

  • Powerful

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • fucking amazing makes me want to cry

  • Usually any later version of Jane's doesn't compare to the original lineup for me, but this video captured some of the magic for sure...

  • Holy Fuck this is the best Janes vid on youtube!!! Wow someone was keeping this one a secret!! excellent find. Best song ever!!!

  • @acrazymob i agree this is such a feast for the senses,iv searched these guys before on youtube and not had much joy, but tonight is a different matter!

  • This song is an orgasm. And perry is lost in the cosmo. DIVINE
