@corrina253 You, in fact, did offer your "beliefs" by stating that you are an atheist because an atheist believes there is no deity. That would be a belief. For the Lord states in many books of the Bible that we should offer His word to others so they might have eternal life.
@corrina253 I don't know what so-called "Christians" you've been exposed to, but what you've described is not a Christian and is not Scripture-based. Those folks need to bear in mind that they may be the only Bible a person ever reads. I didn't post to have a debate with you, but rather offer my beliefs as you did yours. I wish you the best life has to offer. Many blessings.
@carlajean65 I was not trying to have a debate, and I did not offer my "beliefs" as you claim I did (dear, an atheist has no beliefs). I merely said that I love this song despite being an atheist, and you replied to my comment that I need to "open my heart and accept Christ". I was not proselytizing, but you certainly were.
@corrina253 All I can say to you is that I would surely rather get there and find out I was wrong for believing than to arrive and find out that I was wrong for not believing in my Creator who has been with me all of my life and who has walked with me, and even carried me when I was unable to handle life alone. I agree that each day we have with those we love should be cherished and we should make the very best of their presence, which is a gift.
@carlajean65 Ah, Pascal's wager. Boy, that argument never gets old, does it? I suppose I could pretend to believe in your god to avoid the possibility of hellfire when I die, but that would make me a hypocrite, wouldn't it? If you need faith in a god in order to get through life, that's fine, but I don't. I am quite content as a nonbeliever. I just think it is a shame that people don't put as much faith in their fellow human beings as they do in their gods.

@carlajean65 And all I can say is that it is a shame that people don't put as much faith in their fellow human beings as they do in their gods. Christians want to go to heaven when they die, but we nonbelievers want to make our world a heavenly place to enjoy while we are still living. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen as long as religion continues to harden people's hearts and enslave their minds.
@corrina253 -----corrina, as a non believer, I think you lose sight of a LOT that various religions do NOW. Feeding the poor, offering literacy classes, helping the addicted, providing end of life hospice care, the list is endless. As I said, I'm not a believer, but I can't ignore the good religious people do for others. There is plenty of both good & bad among believers & non-believers. To try to marginalize an entire group of people does not speak well for you. Peace & love.
@ corrina 253 I sure hate to hear that you're an atheist. I suppose death would be a scray thing. I invite you to open your heart and walk in the light. As Christians, we look forward to the amazing afterlife God has promised us. So, although we might hate to leave our loved ones for a while, we are assured to see them again some glad, glorious day. No pain, no sorrow, Heaven is for sinners...sinners who have accepted Christ. That's why He was sacrificed. There is nothing without hope.
@carlajean65 The idea of going to a heaven and reuniting with our loved ones after we die is nice, but wanting something to be true does not make it true. If I have roaches in my house, wanting them to be gone isn't going to cause a can of insecticide to magically appear in my cupboard. I believe that making the most of the time we have on earth and cherishing our loved ones while they are still with us is much more worthwhile than looking forward to an afterlife that may or may not exist.

@legalbeagle26 nothing worng with that. people worry too much about what's proper or allowed in their particular church rather than paying attention to the essential messege of christ. that's why chritianity of all types is hurting right now.
We played this song at my Mama's memorial. We were on our boat in front of her favorite lighthouse, Cape Lookout, and we scattered her ashes to this song. It was Alison Krauss but she always loved Charlie Pride also. Kiss an Angel Good Morning was another one of her favorites.
we sang this song at my grandmas funeral yesterday, it was her favorite song, and im so glad both my grandparents taught me to appreciate these old songs that are timeless
interesting tidbit. When Charlie was a relative unknown, he performed at a show sponsored by Willie Nelson. Obviously in that era, a black man on a country music stage wasn;t entirely welcome. When Willie introduced Charlie to a silent crowd, he leaned over and gave Charlie a big wet one right on the lips, thus breaking the ice. Everyone had a good laugh and a good time. Charlies star was essentially born at that moment
@drunkirishbastard1 wasn't it also the case that charley had had immense popularity on the radio but people listening had no idea he was black until they saw him live?
You're not funny. I'll only waste 30 seconds responding. Please find something else to do. You're life is somewhat of a waste but it doesn't have to be. You just chose it that way.
@drunkirishbastard1 I never heard that; I knew he had a hard time with the color barrier in his early years. He sure did a good job breaking through that. He was sort of a lone wolf, not many Blacks I ever knew liked country music, much less to perform it. About Willie, that's 1 of the things I liked about him & Johnny Cash. They could be country boys & represent a lot of the good things about rural culture without being rednecks. They both looked for the good in other people.
@drunkirishbastard1 The great prophet Willie Nelson is one of the most enlightened individuals on this plant, and thanks to him we didn't miss out on the great Charlie Pride.
My mother loved charlie pride My parents in a small town in NJ drove about 30 minutes away to see him perform at Waterloo Village. He sounded better live that is hard everyone needs back up sounds in the studio. If anyone gets a chance or on vacation oh the history! I loved going there sitting in the old church watching how everything was done then beautiful. i looked in amazement at the soldiers uniforms. My favorite song growing up was kaw-liga. Beautiful song one of many God Bless !

interesting tidbit.

@drunkirishbastard1
