  • I agree with what you're saying. Bad critiques can turn a good writer off songwriting completely. I once went to a songwriting seminar & had a song completely trashed. Some time later I sent the song to a publisher in Canada. I love it he said. I have the perfect artist for it & would like to publish it. It got recorded & went on to do great getting lots of airplay & generating considerable royalty income. There’s no rules. A critique is only 1 persons view & they’re quite often just plain wrong

  • @TheSongsculptor Thanks! Your example made my point exactly. As I said in the video, I found I was happier and more creative after removing that negative energy from my life.

BTW - I really like your user name - Songsculptor - perfect description of what we do!

    All the best to you!

  • Very interesting viewpoint. Thanks for giving your opinion. I agree that starting songwriters need a critique to help them get on the right road. You are correct as well when you said if you ask three people you will get three different opinions about your songs. My take on it is this... If your song has a good hook, and it creates emotion in the listener and paints a pictue in the mind of the listener you have written a pretty good song. Keep Writing Dave.
