the wall remind me of the mighty ruts ,great guitar riffs ,and intelligent lyrics ,wish they"d do some gigs ,aint seen em since thet supported s.l.f on the go 4 it tour !
the wall were one of my faue bands ever ,saw em wiu s.l.f on go 4 it tour ,one of the only support bands i euer saw that got an encore, classic punk band ,why werent they massiue?
@homebrew95 does it really matter ? u or v ,u know what im saying ,they were a bloody class act ,and at the end of the day thats all what matters ,respect !
Loved the Wall since I saw them supporting SLF in 1981 (when support bands were worth making the effort to see). Also saw them on their own in Derby playing to a handful of people but still turning in a classic performance with 3 encores of Uniforms! Recently got their live cd from Rebellion and hoping the're planning further gigs in the near future. I've also heard a rumour that their two albums are going to be remastered onto cd and released next year. Here's hoping
I've just googled The Wall and the first thing that comes up says they're from Wallsend in Sunderland!!!! - as I said - Wallsend is in Newcastle! There's only one reason why Wallsend would be mentioned with any punk band from the North East and that is Impulse Studios - a 4 track studio which was probably the only one at the time - everyone did their demos there.
There's loads of mistakes on the net - but Wallsend in Sunderland takes the biscuit.
Wallsend is Newcastle - Ian was a Sunderland lad. He was in a band called the Prefabs and they would support my band in Sunderland and Durham. I saw the Wall at the Small Wonder night at Camden Music Machine in 1978 and I think that's when he had just moved down to London. Rab wasn't with them then. Anyway RIP Ian Lowery - great frontman.
They had a succession of excellent punk singles. I have most of them and still play them to the day. The B sides are good as well. There are two on this particular record and "mercury" is a classic. Theit first single "new way" was a fave of John Peel. Its much slower than this single...but very powerful.
YEAH 1st view(again)! I like this song, it gives mme a crass/flux of pink indians feel with the drums, but the vocals are actually singing...5 stars mate.
loved this band back in the day.!!

Great to hear this again. I remember designing a T-shirt based on the single cover and wearing it with pride. Sadly never got to see them live

@poshclash - Me too, Manchester in May 81, it was my first ever gig, so I suppose that makes The Wall the first band that I ever saw playing live.
