@Ken5imaging You are right, seems like it also was once an OTB office (Off Track Betting office), a place that took bets on horse races. They even took bets in Chinese!
I love Chinatown! I go to New York almost every month, and always end up going there and buying lots of veggies and fruits, it's a really good place to just walk, and see, and learning different things.
@calito0010 Hey there! Thanks for interest in our video :) There are fruit street vendors everywhere in Chinatown, they sell all kind of fruit. I am sure you'll find what you're looking for!
I love going to chinatown. I always get great lil trinkets and bubble tea. Love it. Like anywhere in a big bustling city you always need to watch your pockets and make sure your little ones don't wander away, but that's kinda obvious. Other than that, it's a great place to shop. I recommend going to chinatown if you wanna buy souvenirs and cool stuff from Asia that you don't find often.
It is amazing to see that you can find places like that in a city like New York: you only have to take the subway, and then you find yourself completely immersed in another culture!
@lumthegreat I must say, Chinatown is a common stop for me when showing visiting friends the different neighborhoods of New York. There's an electric, frenetic and even frantic energy in Chinatown that you won't feel anywhere else in the city. One thing I've never felt there is danger.
History leaves no doubt that the Chinatown of the late 60s and on into the 70s was strongly controlled by rival gangs. But those gangs, today, have all but disappeared.
@djlegacy123456789 If it is so dangerous, why go 5 times a month, why not just stay home. It is pretty safe if you go 5 times a month and you are still alive.
@patrickp620 Thank you so much for sharing this memory with us Patrick! Field trips definitely are something we never forget, especially when you see New York through the eyes of a ten-year old child: the city seems even bigger and amazing this way! :)
@bazcoloradomio Hi, interesting topic. Per the Manufacturers Alliance in the 70’s U.S. producers made 80% of what the country consumed. In 09 - 65%.
Per NYT article, the US remains by far the leading manufacturer by value of goods produced. It hit a record $1.6 trillion in 07, nearly 2x the $811 billion of 87. The US sold more than $200 billion of tech equipment in 07, and $80 billion of autos. Deere sold $16.5 billion worth of farm equipment in '08, much of it to the rest of the world.
I would strongly recommend FuLeen seafood restaurant in Divison st and terrific tea house in Mott st for people who travel to Chinatown rather than other restaurants cause I am Chinese who are living in Chinatown
@Normalism Thank you so much for your thoughtful restaurant suggestions! We appreciate the advice of locals who know the best places to eat in Chinatown :)
@Normalism Thanks for your comment! We love Chinatown too! And you really should eat there some day, there are tons of very good (and cheap) restaurants ;)

@9abcdefgz Thank you so much for your comment Mirah! Chinatown is a busy neighborhood of New York City because so many people enjoy its unique culture and delicious food! If you ever make a trip to New York City, this area is definitely worth checking out :)
@OldaurGold We don't know Toronto at all, but perhaps another viewer can help. Is there anyone who knows Toronto and would not mind telling us a bit about it?
@TheRealTimfromPA Thank you for your comment! Shanghai Joe's is just one of many great Chinese restaurants in New York City's Chinatown, we always welcome new suggestions on where our fans can find great food :)
Dimsum gogo and Joe's Shanghai are overpriced tourist attractions. NY Noodletown is expensive and doesn't taste good. Golden Unicorn's dimsum doesn't taste as good as it's competitors. For DimSum, you can try Chatham Restaurant at 9 Chatham Square, or Sunshine27 on 54 Bowery. For noodles/rice/congee you can go to Big Wong at 67 Mott St. These locations are generally inexpensive. If you want Shanghai food, you can walk down Bayard St. There's at least 4 or 5 restaurants there.
@Gravesend83 Thank you for your suggestions about where to find affordable restaurants in Chinatown, we appreciate the advice of locals on great places to eat in New York City :)
@NewYorkHabitat You're welcome. It bothers me that a lot of tourists wait outside of those restaurants when there are places around the corner/across the street that puts them to shame. OH OH OH, just one last suggestion! For dessert, you can try Chinatown ice cream factory on 65 Bayard. They have a lot of interesting flavors (ginger, greentea, lychee, egg custard, etc.). You always see more people (tourists and locals) in there than the Haagen Dazs across the street.
@Gravesend83 Thank you again, you are our connoisseur of fine dining in New York City's Chinatown neighborhood! Who could resist a factory of ice cream? ;)
@Gravesend83 I am agree what you said those are true I have been live in Chinatown for 16 yrs I think tourist who are only going to those place show in the magazine but not for the taste
