What an abysmal piece of hippie garbage. I came across this a few weeks ago and all I could do is shake my head (and that was from watching the last 20 minutes or so). The actors in this movie were either high or needed money. The cast was fantastic, but they obviously had no idea how poorly conceived the whole project was. The movie is just plain stupid. I know that it's a product of the Hollywood machine cashing in on the hippie craze, but holy crap, it's just bad. Carol Channing=insane.
It helps if you're older, or an advanced culture maven to recognize all these famous people making total fools of themselves trying to jump on board the Youth Bandwagon. Wonderful cheeze!
I voted this as one of the greatest midnight movie trailers ever. Cuz it is. Don't buy ribs from any fat asian men selling them from the back of his car. He's a crazy rapist and he'll attack you only after you get diarreah from eatin' the damn things.
I remember going to this film with my grandfather and having to walk out in the middle when he just couldn't take any more. For some crazy reason, that theme song, as sung by Carol Channing, has stuck in my head all these past 40+ years.
Amazing though, isn't it, that a Hollywood film (albeit slightly out of the mainstream) would employ Timothy Leary to help publicize it? In some ways, we really were a great deal more open-minded back then, weren't we?
I watched this abortion all the way through. Did they have to sing to describe every goddamn scene? Seriously, the only thing that makes this look good, is The Adventures of El Superbeasto by Rob Zombie.
@i12gohome - I found it on ebay today - probably a bootleg taped off TV. Cheap, though, only £4.99 + 2.50 shipping. I haven't ordered it - the seller is in the UK, so I've sent a query as to whether it will be playable here. There was no info regarding the region code in the listing.
I've got a copy of Skidoo on my DVR (recorded from AMC Movie Classics Channel, I think), and I have no way to transfer it to DVD (the DVD recorder gives me flak about copy protection). Hey, release it and I'll buy it, it's so bad it's good. Just get high first. Very funny. Then.
look, i know i wasn't around, or cool enough, to be in the trailer for skiddo, but timothy leary is such a hack! i wonder if he actually believed that this movie would "make you love better"?
Timothy Leary: One of three men that ruined the 60's-the other two are Lee Harvey Oswald (for killing John F. Kennedy) and Lyndon Johnson. Speaking of ruin, there is good reason why "Skidoo" flopped: It was because of this trailer featuring Leary and when middle-class people (especially in the Midwest) saw him they thought 'Oh no, why do we need to listen to this piece of shit?'
This should have been a great movie...as the saying goes, "Too Many Cooks Spoil the Pot" Literally or should I say Plot.
This movie does have it's moments like John Phillip Law and Danyele Luna playing "Gods" mistress. Of course my favorite thing is that Rudi Gernreich designed the costumes for Carol Channing and Donyale Luna. Nillson is great too, other than that...it doesn't tickle my funny bone.
Another great example of a trailer being better than the film. Any trailer that features Peter Lawford, Timothy Leary & Groucho Marx in it gets an automatic Excellent rating. Thanks for posting this!.
Don't believe Groucho's comment- this movie is a fucking fiasco, and so desperately unfunny that neither Groucho Marx nor Jackie Gleason, two of the greatest comedians ever, were given anything funny to say or do. P.S. I didn't know "turn on" used to refer to drugs- funny how that phrase's meaning has shifted from one vice to another.

For those who are interested, the film was released on DVD a month ago or so by Olive Films.
I saw the 2nd half on TCM, and I found it a lot better than its reputation.

It begs the question: Whta drugs was Otto Preminger taking to even remotely want to make it? Preminger, a man so volatile he didn't need drugs.

Pffft.. Leary what a clown. I would like to point out though that it's Harry Nilsson singing the cast.

My God, that looked awful. No wonder it bombed.
I heard Groucho took LSD to prepare for this movie. Can you imagine Groucho tripping his balls off? LOL
pmalone4 1 year ago 2
@pmalone4: Groucho and Alice Cooper used to hang out together in the late '60's, tripping out and having a ball, or so I've heard.

Leary's body language is hilarious in this clip, his eyes especially. How much do you suppose he held out for to endorse this piece of shit?

Ah, John Phillip Law...remember him "pretending to be the pretender" in "Danger Diabolik"?

OMG! I recorded this movie on my Tivo,
2 days ago and I watched it today!
It was on the "Turner Classic Movie" channel.
My personal opinion of this movie,
it's weird, wild, crazy, off-the-wall and
insane! Just like the late 1960's!

It's amazing how many people were in this movie. There are three Batman villians no less!!!
Yeah, if you've never dropped, you probably won't like this movie, but if you have it's great.
cretinbob 3 years ago 2
@cretinbob Don't forget that the producer/director of the film, Otto Preminger, was also a Batman villian (he played Mr. Freeze).

So they're trying to be "hep" with the kids of the 1960s by naming a movie using a slang term from the 1920s?
