  • If people like this are going to argue that somebody who has been arrested and convicted of stealing a car..............that their vote holds the same value as mine, someone who has never even DREAMED of stealing another individual's property.

Then I give up on society and the country as a whole.

  • essentially what this lady is arguing for is the voter rights of convicted felons, people who have been found guilty of felonies, the non-contributing members of society,

Thank you Michelle, your point of view is so over-looked and dynamic.

  • Stop making excuses for criminal behavior is how I respond to this lady.

The laws are on the books, you violate a law, you place yourself at risk for arrest....

not much more I can say on the issue.

  • Just make it even across the board. Treat the white and black criminals the same if you are so committed to locking people up!

  • to answer the question of why convicted felons are not able to vote.............I DON'T WANT SOMEBODY WHO WAS CONVICTED OF STEALING A CAR TO BE ABLE TO VOTE.

    fucking democrats, jesus tittyfucking christ......

  • @Shaymeonyoo Don't make it sound like this is an original idea.. in fact America is one of only 6 out of 45 democratic countries in the world that bars released felons from voting. Most sensible people can't see the direct connection between felony and voting rights. Why stop at voting, why eliminate other basic rights like freedom of speech and religion? Even if I were to allow baring bad people from taking part in voting, what about those who change for the better? They still cant

  • @AdeerAxmed stop committing crimes and you will hold your right to vote.

A right ALL criminals never take into consideration in the first place.

This is the problem with people like you, you never see the fault with criminal actions in the first place, it really isn't all that hard to NOT commit a felony.

You are full of nothing but excuses for the criminal behavior of others.

Let me be clear: I. don't. want. someone. who. has. stolen. property. to. be. able. to. vote.

  • @AdeerAxmed Well you cross a threshhold (commit a felony) and I guess you are screwed for life.

Lets stop pretending as if the right to vote was ever a priority for a felon in the first place.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR STUPID PEOPLE. STOP IT ALREADY.

This is a country of 300 million with 4+ million in prison.

I DON'T WANT THOSE 4 MILLION TO BE ABLE TO VOTE.

    uggggggg STOP IT DEMOCRAT.

  • @Shaymeonyoo What if you were in the target group? How would you feel if you did all the right things, but the odds were still stacked against you? I am saying this as a educated African American woman without bias. I do not think that people of color want preferential treatment, but fairness and equality. Apply the laws equally. If you are gonna treat people for drug addictions, treat them all not just some. Is this request unreasonable?

  • @jakeicha My response is that you would have to give me an example of a black person who actually made all of the right decisions in life, high-school through college, found a career, made something of themselves, yet wasn't able to progress further because of this "phantom racism"

There are plenty of successful African-Americans, Immigrant AFRICANS, Chinese, Latino the list goes on, that all made it through the system....

All I want are specifics of the "odds stacked against you".

  • @Shaymeonyoo job opportunity basically boils down to competency, why would I hire a dumb "white" guy over an obviously bright and intelligent "black" guy.

It is time to get over this phantom of racism.

  • @Shaymeonyoo There are numerous cases of blacks being targeted by police that have done nothing wrong. Look at the Bart incident in California for example...the boy killed was a student with no record. What did he do wrong to be killed by the police. Diallo was another case in NY (my home state) where a an African immigrant was targeted and tortured by police. He had no record either. What would you say about incidents such as these?

  • @Shaymeonyoo We are talking about the prison industrial complex and the criminal justice system right? You are asking something that is impossible to find. College and high school do not determine if your are a good person. These accomplishments or rights of passage simply add to your quality of life. No one makes all the right decisions in life, all we can do as humans is try our best. Steve Jobs never finished college and publicly admitted he experimented with drugs. Yet he changed the world

  • @AdeerAxmed I would think our society would be better off if people stopped and thought about consequences, one of those consequences, which you are arguing, would be losing the right to vote.

Apparently that isn't at the top of the list, therefore people steal shit, commit fraud, are not responsible for their actions in general.

I can already see your response to this. "well, these people are DRIVEN to committing these crimes because of the circumstance they are placed in."

    bull.

  • This woman is excellent. Thank you for your work, Professor Alexander.

  • @DoNotCult where did you get these statistics (1st three statements)? The "racist attacks" statement is conjecture, so I will assume you will distance yourself from that.

    Waiting!

  • Michelle is right. White kids are cut lots more slack for their mistakes. Black and brown kids are assumed guilty automatically by the clour of their skin and their address.

  • chances are people who are selling or buying drugs are doing it more than once or experimenting. yes, some are experimenting but not that many. to me, she is making drug dealers sound innoncent. i think any person selling drugs should be fully prosecuted, regardless of color. Also, there are some companies that actually do hire people with criminal backround. In a way, I wish there were a few more so people dont get tempted to go back into an illegal lifestyle

  • You think counting prisoners by the census is appauling, you should do research on the privatization of the prison system. they invest in the stock market based on the number of incarcerated in prison. and as far as that caller calling in to attempt to justify her racism, it's no wonder why christ called a white woman a dog. just because there is a law, it does not mean that law is just trick! WE ARE YAHUDA ISRAEL.

  • i didn't know prisoners are counted as part of a population

  • @Discernaoftruth I know!! thats scary

  • Wow this is astonishing how this has gone on for so long.

  • That woman was just babbling nonsense. She obviously hasn't done research.

  • @TheArtistWill I'm sorry she is not saying what you want to hear, but she is basing her research on government research from the DEPT OF JUSTICE.

  • @Discernaoftruth Why do research when is could just argue blindly? *sarcsam" LOL

  • To the woman who called in: Michelle doesn't say 'republicans are responsible" or that its the party that does this. If you read the book she says that the democrats/liberals are even worse than the republicans. Not only that but it doesn't just 'happen' that black and brown people are in jail. It's systematic and there is no reason that THEY should be there or 'happen' to be there more than whites. If you read the book, which you obviously have not, you would know all this.

  • @AdeerAxmed Yeah, I heard the first 10 seconds of that question and had to fast-forward the rest of the way

  • Comment removed

  • @AdeerAxmed Maybe you should realize crime went down when liquor was made legal. The drug war is no different than prohibition

  • @imaginepeace63 I have no qualms with that.. drugs should be made legal but that's a different argument from this one. Let the drug laws be enforced equally across races. Failing that then yes, lets make them all legal in accordance with the libertarian models the US claims to base its foundations on.

  • @AdeerAxmed "libertarian models" are models that favor the private sector. Yeah that is not a solution. that is part of the problem.

  • this lady is all about making excuses for convicted rapists, murderers and drug addicts, fraudists.

    what an unbelievably naive person.

  • @Shaymeonyoo She's only making the point that African Americans are incarcerated at a number disproportionate to the crimes as the data shows. Since 1970 the arrest rate of African Americans in America has increased by 780%. While whites and blacks use illicit drugs at roughly the same rates blacks see drug incarcerations at much higher rates than whites. The book investigates the war on drugs in the US and doesn't address rapists, murderers or 'fraudists' as you suggest.

  • @AdeerAxmed what is "systematic" about the incarceration of "black/brown" people?

because when I see a statement like that, I immediately think that police officers are on the search and arresting "black/brown" people based purely upon the color of their skin.

or could it maybe because, "black/brown" people are CULTURALLY are more prone toward criminal behavior?

Compton LA is a cesspool of criminal activity, and they are all proud of it.

Where is the "white" version of Compton?

  • The woman who called in sounds SOOO stupid. I would have cut her off and said stupidity will not be tolerated.
