Well, in the book Hawat really was poisoned by the Baron and in order to live Hawat had to take a daily antidote. Only he didn't have to milk a cat mouse thingy. LOL
I actually still really like this scene in the movie. The movie is so much better than the miniseries. It compliments the books very well despite its inaccuracies.
I always assumed the mouse was there for the cat to feed off. I thought the purpose of this scene was to display David Lynch's masterly weirdness. Did feel sorry for those animals though, I don't remember one of those "no animals were harmed during the making of this motion picture" messages appearing at the end.
Hmm 178 people now... Still not enough... Once I get the proper footage I'm going to make a parody of the Saw trailer with this scene in it. And at the end it's going to be like, "Yes, there will be cat's milk."
i'm REALLY saddened that only 81 people have seen this. you don't even have to be a die hard dune fan to laugh your ass off at Sting dressed up in an outfit and forcing some fat guy with crazy hair to MILK A CAT.
i love this film, cat milking is a strange punishment though, reminds me of south parks addiction to cat piss

Why does the Baron's voice remind me of Dr. Evil?

This wasn't even in the book. Is it supposed to display Baron Harkonnens heartlessness?
