Sorry my friend, if your argument were to hold water, that would mean that China has thousands of languages...and your admittance of knowing very little of the Chinese language in another comment proves that. Cantonese is considered to be the one of the more extreme DIALECTS, a greeting in Cantonese comes in the form of "Nei ho" (sorry, this computer doesn't do characters) which is not that much different from the Mandarin standard, Ni hao, it's not unlike you and ya'all --->dialect.
Granted, there are some more extreme differences, but it does suggest that there's a root language in there somewhere, the discovery of which would be simply astounding. Now I do understand that you and I have gotten off on the wrong foot, but should you choose to do, so at some point, I'd love to build something of a Chinese community here on the tubes (I've been in touch with others who've beaten the "great firewall," that's why I created this new channel. But I want to have some fun.
@pr0t0typeB0Y yes I agree, Ill be going back to China, hopefully for some time, and plan on filming for real this time, my time spent in China, i never really filmed, a big mistake. But when im there in October-or november, I plan on using a proxy to upload my vids. Or if not at least upload them when I get back. I would like to be a part of a Chinese community or "expat" or simply community of china ethusiasts. The "J-vlogging" (Japan) is huge, and they are successful, China needs one
@wingwaabuddha We're heading back to our place in Guangzhou in January, but are looking to possibly set up a new school in Kunming by next fall. As for vids from China, try a VPN instead (that's what I use). Proxy will allow you to watch youtube vids, but because google cannot verify the authenticity of your connection, it will not allow you to log in and upload. VPN's the way to go.
No. Absolutely Shanghainese is NOT a 'dialect' (or language) of mandarin. Shanghainese is a dialect of the Wu language of Chinese, which is older than mandarin. Shanghainese and Cantonese are arguably closer to Middle Chinese than Mandarin. Mandarin is only a couple of hundreds years old. Although Shanghainese came about from the mixing of the dialects of Ningbo and Suchou, both are part of the Wu family. A large part of Japanese vocab comes from this area too, and we can hear it
@wingwaabuddha I totally agree shanghainese sounds nothing like Chinese! It is pretty much another language and it is a shame that the language and culture of old traditional ways are dying down I wish it would go on forever and the newer generation should embrace it it is very special.
Btw wingwaabuddha do you speak Chinese? And do you live in America? Just curious cuz I heard your gf speaks to her co-workers in shanghainese? So either u stay in china with her? Or she just has Chinese co-work
@rozmoz I do speak some mandarin, yes im in US atm. My gf lives in Shanghai, born there and all that. She will be moving here permanetly in november, I will be going to china again in october (assuming i can)
@wingwaabuddha Lou said she feels tougher and more mature after her experience, but added if she could do it all over again, she would not have gone on the show at all.
An instructor at Shanghai Drama Academy, where Lou studies broadcasting, put forward the mixed-race beauty and a handful of classmates to appear on the television talent show, without asking first.
@wingwaabuddha She was selected for the top 30 nationwide, but was not among the 12 contestants chosen by judges for the next round.
Lou said she was not surprised by the judges' decision, but was shocked by the thousands of web postings that followed, most of them negative and many of them expressing racist views.
please do a video on your views on Africa as a continent and its poor developmental stage after so many years after colonialism, especially compared to other post-independent countries in other continents.

Officially, Shanghainese is a dialect of Wu, a language in the family of Chinese languages. Shanghainese is similar in phonology to other dialects of Wu, which are spoken in places near Shanghai, such as Hangzhou and Suzhou.
wow, I am afraid I have to say that your girlfriend's attitude is little arrogant, but great vid after all. Thanks for sharing with us.

@paramitas the people in Hanghzhou could not understand Shanghainese, but yes Shanghainese is vaguely similar to other Wu variations
