I was just having a terrible day and then I heard this. It made me feel so good listening to you. Such a timeless piece sung so well. The mix is so perfect. I can hear every nuance of you performance. Thank you so much for doing this for us.
@LauraAmiga Hey, Laura! Thank you so much, my friend! Glad you liked it! Also, thank you for adding my video under Aretha's video! Love her version! :)
I don't care if you're from whatever country (but i'm glad you are really from Norman Brooks - George W Hudson country) ... you give Jolie's song what they need - HEART!! ... Well done my internet friend ... :p :j :p
Hi, Annette! Accent? Well, I guess I do have a bit of a different kind of tone in my voice, but I'm from Toronto! I wish I could speak French! Would love to be able to sing my other hero, Charles Aznavour's songs! Oh well, thank you so much for your kind comment! So glad you enjoyed it! :)
Hey, Michael! Thank you so much! I'm over in Canada. I've mainly done amateur work, but hoping these vids might help to change that around for me a bit. In the meantime, I'm having a ball, making the vids, and making great new friends, like you! Thanks again, so much! :)
Now this is how Jolson should be sung! Not like some of those caricature versions that are floating around.......Hrmmmm (blushing) Great job Greg! Five star all the way!
This is very good. Your vocal quality never fluctuates. That means a lot to me as a listener, as it can be distracting. You're very good. It's good to see more people who like this sort of music.
Plus, I love this song. It's always a treat when I'm exercising or at work, and suddenly Jolie or Judy Garland is there, singing it.
Hey, McKenzie! I thought I'd already replied to this comment! I'll be all right. Lol! Thank you so much! So glad you liked this! Yes! It's great to see this kind of music making a comeback! Thanks again, my friend! :)
Carol, I can't tell you how much that comment means to me! I've been a huge fan of Larry Parks since I was 7. Yes, for 11 years now. Lol! Ok, 12, (shh! lol!), and it's his interpretation of Jolson that first gave me the singing bug, so thank you so much for that!!! :))
Lol, yes, I was having trouble with my cam at the time, and it ended up looking like that! Glad you liked my singing, though! Thank you so much for the great compliment!!! :)
I really can't tell you how much I appreciate it, but please, I hope no one feels they have to go out their way for me at this time. Just like you, all I want right now is for Jaime to get well. You're all so wonderful, and I can't thank you enough, for everything, from day one, to now. Keep me posted on Jaime's progress. My love to you, Jaime, and all there.
Hi, Peter! Wonderful to hear from you! I was just gonna write to ask how Jaime was doing. I know he is going to have the first of three surgeries on Monday. He's in my prayers everyday, and I know all will be fine. Tell Jaime, I thank him so much for thinking of me, even now, getting everyone to spread my name around.
Hello Greg, stopped by again. I nearly forgot how wonderful your version of "Rockabye" was (Slapped the back of my hand!) ... Morris Stoloff's backing was used only for the greatest and classiest of Popular singers; e. g. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and some other feller ... er ... whatsisname ... Anyway, I am sure ol' whatsisname would have been happy to say to you: "Me and Morris Stoloff are proud of you son!" ... Pat ... :)
Aw, thank you so much, Pat! Yes, nothing like Stoloff's brilliant arrangements! So glad you think he, and that other guy, whoever he might be, lol, would be happy with my version. Gotta say, I've begun collecting favorites here, and your latest Jolson tribute video is among them. It's sooo wonderful! I think you know who would be equally proud of you!!! Thanks again, so much Pat! You are the best! You, too, Beryl!!! :))
Hi, Resendiz! So glad you enjoyed it! The karaoke is actually one of many vocal reduced tracks that came straight from The Jolson Story. Not sure who did the vocal reduction originally, but it must have been made from the remastered stereo soundtrack that was used for the movie's re-release. I have all the tracks burned to CD, and I'll send them to you as soon as I get my CD burner up and running! Thanks again!!! :)
Yep, you should soon! Hope you will! About Swanee, you must play that one alot! Lol! I love the 1945 Decca version! And it was just after he had part of his left lung removed! He seemed to have even more power! For me, I can never hear that recording enough!!! :)
Hi linsky27! Yes! Jolson was amazing, and I'm glad you liked my tribute to him! If you liked this, you might like my "Let Me Sing" vid, too! I hope you'll be singing, or miming these songs here one day! I'd enjoy that! The more Jolson, the better! Thanks again!!! :)
Aw, thanks Michael! That was back in March when I was just getting over a 3 month bout of laryngitis. I wasn't ready, but I couldn't wait to sing again. I'm glad you liked what I did. :)
Your voice is clean and good , and your performance is good too , keep on singing the old time !But also love the things of the new time , there are good people in this time too !!
Hi surfzombie!!! Thanks for the great comments! Really means alot to me! No one like Jolson, and Sinatra! Glad you liked the wallpaper too! Such a rare pic!!! :)
I Got a ringing endorsement from Blueeyes0770 to check you out. Alex was right!!! He said you were amazing! It's nice to here some of Jolie's old songs again. Jolson always said that this was his personal favourite...and you're doing a great rendition. Jolson would be proud.
It's surprising just how big Jolson was in his time and now there's so many people who've never heard of him. Thanks for doing such a great job and keeping his fabulous music alive!
Hi Asa. No, I just sang "soft and low" because it seems everyone else after Jolson has been singing it that way, and I thought the words fit just as well anyway. Glad you liked it anywho! Also, I may even redo this one eventually, because I had just gotten over laryngitis, and there were a couple spots in it that played tricks with my voice, but I hope they aren't too noticable. May even use the original lyric next time!;)
My timing was excellent to catch your latest!Superlative rendition of, yes,one of MY favorites too!
The T-shirt/sportjacket look is real great, more relaxed. I wish you could've stood back a bit to see you working the song you so obviously enjoyed performing.. Kudos to yet another Fantastic performance..keep em coming..
Hi Tim! So glad you liked it! Had some technical problems with my cam with this one, so the picture's not quite as sharp as "Let Me Sing" and the others, but hope that's no big problem. Thanks again for the kind words! Means alot to me!:)
Hello Greg,
I had forgotten how well you sang this - So glad I returned. "Wonderful! Who was that?" - "Meet a young man named Greg Stillwell" --- :)
