I lived across from JB and Millie, but before those times I used to go to the Buffalo River when it was as low as a creek. in 1990 it flooded nearly over the rails of the bridge. I came around the S curve fast enough to hear my tires. After coming around the last curve I saw water and the very tip rail of the bridge. I floored it. I felt the car leave the ground and bump back down repeatedly and at some point the waves behind me seemed to carry me rest the way across. Thank you engineers!jojo
I know this is a seemingly random question, and I mean no disrespect to anybody who was affected by these historic floods. My heart (and some of my money) goes out to you and relief efforts. My question is....are there places in Arkansas where in March, the trees are beginning to turn green? I am from a cold north climate, we don't get flowers until May. I was under the impression Arkansas stayed green all winter. I'm just naturally curious about botany and broadleaf evergreens. Thanks so much.
Some trees turn green in March, but not any of the native trees like oaks and hickories. Most of the native trees put out leaves in late March and early April, but it was even later this year. Hmmmm... must be global warming...
we dont stay green down here all year i know once it started to turn green then a cold front hit and killed most of the plants that had started to blum it even kill a bunch of our trees on my land youre ? is a good one we arkansas have one wierd climate cause it is so random
The rivers are still flooded! big river south of eurekia is still over the road in spots. We are getting slammed this year with weather. I live in cape and go to college, and weved had 3 ice storms, 2 snow storms, and floods, and tornados. I like to refer to it as the semester from hell!
Where is this? No one say's what city, state! I am in Thayer, MO and we are seriously flooded out here!!! Our Mammoth Spring is causing some major problems and the city of Mammoth Main street flooded completely this morning!
i understand the flood happened because some idiot in the city office decided the levee wasnt needed and took out a section to put a retirement home. OMG! how stupid can you be.
Do you think it could have had something to do with 6-10 inches of rain in 24 hours on ground that was already pretty saturated? Where are the levees on this part of the White?
it did rain a lot but this time of year the river rises rain or not because the run off from further north when the snow melts it was soggy before but they would have been fine if it werent for that section. as for where ill be honest i couldnt tell you all where i only know the place isee when driving through
Shadowymeadow, I don't know where you're from, but you're obviously not familiar with the area. Snow is not a major contributor to the hydrologic regime of the White River. In fact, the water budget for this region is highly variable and the river does not, in fact, rise regularly this time of year. It might be wiser to check your facts before passing on rumors.
Actually, being a native of Calico Rock, I can tell you that there are no levees on this section of the White River. We have limestone and sandstone bluffs on the north side of the river, and the south side is flood plain that is populated only by livestock. Sorry, but what you heard is pure fiction.
wow, thats not funny at all...to all you ppl laughing you should be ashamed. what if that was ur house? and you were left homeless. i feel bad for all those effected.
Bless your hearts! I am from Kansas, and we experienced a terrible flood in June & July of 2007. My heart goes out to all of those who suffered a loss of anykind. May GOD Bless you all, and you are in the thoughts and prayers of some still soggy Kansans!

I was there when that happened...these people did not have flood insurance due to the fact that these were homes built right on the river!

If it wasn't for the floodgates at Norfork, the bridge would have been completly swept away
