Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see a Nadal- Federer Us Open Final. Rafa got beaten 08,09, and when he got through this year everyone really thought we would, but no I witnessed with my own to eyes as Novak Djokovic advanced to his second final. Now with Federer having past his peak who knows how he'll fare at USO 2011. Same goes for Rafa on injuries. Everyone thought after AO 2009 Rafa was gonna win all four but no injuries struck and Fed surged back. I guess well have to wait and see!

I am not such a good expert as you are (no irony here) but I really did expect not Rafa but Delpo in the final. I dont think that this requires much expertise or clearvoyance, just putting together the last matches and the results of the hard courts season together is enough to predict Delpos victory over Rafa.

I like the analysis and some others as well, but it is wrong to assume a final will occur. As is proven by the fact that you couldn't be more wrong. I really don't know why you picked Nadal over Del Potro. Nadal always has trouble at the US open, this because he doesn't get the time to execute the shots he wants to play. I don't think there's anything wrong with making a video like this even if it turns out to be wrong. IMO, it's more interesting in a way to do this because you have to anticipate / think about how each player is going to construct a match vs reporting what ended up happening.

nadal is not in his A game yet, his shots are still short in the court, so he couldn't move Del Potro side to side so Del Potro stayed in the center of the court, enjoying have 6' 6" and making Nadal run.

Federer's serve let him down, and his stamina wore down while Del Potro hung in there. It had nothing to do with changing gears. His serve was off, and that was the difference. Nothing more.

Federer is a serve only player and nothing more cause Del Potro was really hitting sloppy out of nerves. FYB2007 said heavey slices which was a laugh cause Federers slices are not text book and inconsistant. Changing gears is adding more spin on the serve in order to increase your percentage as a real pro of the past would do and as Del Potro did. No excuses.

Guy certainly has the game and will win his share of majors when it's all said and done. However, I was hesitant to pick him after he got tired in a best-of-3 vs. Murray. He's been lucky so far in the sense that he hasn't played any long matches and only faced two low seeds before Nadal. But I don't want to take anything away from what DelPo has done -- great player / performance and he completely deserves to be in the final.

i can't see nadal getting to the final, del potro hits the ball too hard too low for nadal. he is that height which is prefect for them topspin forehands of nadal's, the ball sits up perfect 4 him. if del potro performs and doesn't make too many unforced errors, i can't see nadal touching del potro.

Federer has to play Nadal the way he played Murray/Djokovic in the tournament before the US Open.

I forget the name of the tournament, but many were saying that Federer was returning to 2006-2007 play, with his relatively easy wins over Murray/Djokovic. His shots were placed perfectly, solid strategy, and unafraid whipping forehand winners.

For example, you'd think he keep in the rally, but out of nowhere, he'd just hit a flat forehand straight on the baseline. Effortless.

thanks. i think Rafa has improved a lot on the hard court. i sure hope if that Fed will take the trophy, his tennis is just so much more creative and attractive. there is no doubt he can beat Nadal in any surface, but he has to play freely, unafraid. more often than not he gets really bothered by Rafa's running like crazy and making some insane shots. he has to get pass those shots and stay focus.

There are two things I believe would help federer against nadal.

1. Run around backhand on Nadals serve, especially on second serve.

2. Federer should not slice when returning Nadals serves, I hate when he does that, he automaticly starts the point in weaker position. Instead, he should use the incoming balls pace to put it gently away to Nadals backhand. Then he gets a better outcome of the point.

It may help to a degree. However, Nadal's technique is more geared toward spin / defense vs. offense (particularly on his forehand). I know that he's been trying to change this a bit -- hit a bit flatter on occasion.

I think, as his game is now, it would be somewhat difficult for him to play consistently aggressive tennis. But if he changed some things / practiced for a bit I have no doubt he could do it.

Problem for federer is that Nadal amazingly return looking-unreturnable winning shots consistently with his forehand, which makes federer embarrassed to hit one more extra shot that could be unforced error. so, I think federer need to attack nadal's backhand more, because I notice that Nadal's backhand is more prone to errors.

I disagree. Nadal`s backhand is one of the most solid shots in the game. When it comes to hitting neutral balls, it`s better to hit to Rafa`s backhand, since he can`t hurt you as much on it as with his forehand. However, if you are going to attack with a good shot, it`s better to attack his forehand; it can force him into errors or get a short ball from it. He has a much longer back swing on his forehand and needs more time to setup than his backhand.

I just come back from watching 2008 french open final, you are a little bit right about that,but I think this time, roger need to mix up his attack on both sides of nadal, It's not because Nadal has better defense on his backhand than forehand, but because Federer's forehand is much more powerful when attacking nadal's forehand side. however nadal have weaker defense on his backhand. It looks like Nadal have lefty hand advantage over federer.
