Don't say that shit. He genuinely wanted to win and he lost. I'm glad someone knocked him off his high horse, he was getting to rampant without nadal around to keep him in check. Seems like Del potro's win will be the end of the nadal-fed era.
I highly doubt that, federer and nadal have been constistant in all slams, del potro caught nadal well on one of those days where its a blessing and roger will the serve pfft wasnt there that day the errors well 08 style federer on a good day or cincy form wouldve crushed delpo but it wasnt to be on the DAY one lose doesnt diecied history, he will win more slams delpo may not or may do you never know.
I am not such a good expert as you are (no irony here) but I really did expect not Rafa but Delpo in the final. I dont think that this requires much expertise or clearvoyance, just putting together the last matches and the results of the hard courts season together is enough to predict Delpos victory over Rafa.
I wonder how Murray could have lost so clearly. Well played by Cilic.
well under normal circumstances it probably would have gone this way, but there are other contingencies that have to be taken into consideration. i would have liked to see federer vs nadal in the final but del potro proved he is worthy of the title
I like the analysis and some others as well, but it is wrong to assume a final will occur. As is proven by the fact that you couldn't be more wrong. I really don't know why you picked Nadal over Del Potro. Nadal always has trouble at the US open, this because he doesn't get the time to execute the shots he wants to play. Also the fact that he cannot exploid the backhand of Del Potro like he can exploid Federer's destroyed Nadal. I never though Nadal had a real chance before or during the match.
It was a prediction which turned out to be wrong. Happens -- I thought Serena was going to win the US Open and obviously she didn't.
I don't think there's anything wrong with making a video like this even if it turns out to be wrong. IMO, it's more interesting in a way to do this because you have to anticipate / think about how each player is going to construct a match vs reporting what ended up happening.
Shifting gears, you're right about DelPo's backhand vs Federer's.
well i was gonna put up my whole tournament predictions but couldnt be bothered haha. i had federer/djokovic and del potro/tsonga semis so wasnt too far out - also had fed for the win, gutted he lost :(
keep the vids coming, even if youre wrong its still good to hear other logical opinions!!
nadal is not in his A game yet, his shots are still short in the court, so he couldn't move Del Potro side to side so Del Potro stayed in the center of the court, enjoying have 6' 6" and making Nadal run.
Del Potro beating Nadel 6-2,6-2,6-2,this makes me believe Del Potro is very hot at the moment, and could give Rorer a run for his money, although i still fancy Roger.
Here's another one to distinguish better between lefty and righties (always difficult I think):
draw a hand on the bigger circle like this:
normal for a righty when the racket is on the right side, upside down for a lefty when the racket is on the right side. Whenever the Hand is correctly shown, it's a forehand, when the Hand is upside down, it's a backhand.
I pick Guy Forget to win in straight sets. Unless Bud Collins serves and volleys consistently in the first. Really, it's anyone's ballgame. Go Martina!
My prediction if Del Potro hits high and wide to Federers backhand he will dominate the match. If Del Potro keeps Federer moving Federer will be in deep trouble because he is not use to an opponent being in command of the point. If Del Potro plays as he did against Nadal he will win .
So I was right. Federer has too rigid of a game. Like Sampras, Federers game relies on his serve and neither one was able to change gears to consistant placement as Del Potro did.
Do you honestly think that Del Potro would have won that match if Federer served his normal 62%? It would have been over in 3 or 4 sets.
Federer's serve let him down, and his stamina wore down while Del Potro hung in there. It had nothing to do with changing gears. His serve was off, and that was the difference. Nothing more.
So what you are saying is what I have always said and that is that without his serve Federer is nothing. Federer is a serve only player and nothing more cause Del Potro was really hitting sloppy out of nerves. FYB2007 said heavey slices which was a laugh cause Federers slices are not text book and inconsistant. Changing gears is adding more spin on the serve in order to increase your percentage as a real pro of the past would do and as Del Potro did. No excuses.
you are an idiot. of course he relies on his serve. every player relies and builds his game around his serve. even your beloved nadal is nothing without his serve and thats why he got demolished in the semis. for idiots like you the serve is only for making aces but in reality it allows you to play the point on your terms and construct the rally the way you want it and thus gives you more confidence when on the return
There must be a balance between serve and ground strokes. Building a game around a serve requires a good serve, a smart serve and not just a fast serve so I guess Federer and Nadal just don't have it when needed. Not a fan of Nadull or Fedudder idiot.
hah are u saying federer is not a smart server?! if you do then guess whos the idiot. federer outaces regulary roddick and other harder hitting servers and he seldomly exceeds 210 km/h. and yes you are the idiot
Learn to read stupid and serving aces is no big deal it is winning the points on your opponents serve. If you dont ace your opponents you have to back it up with your ground strokes moron.
u are dumb as shit and as i suspected you didnt understand my point. i only made this argument to show u that federer is one of the smartest serverers if he outaces such powerhouses such as roddick and karlovic. he does it with variation and placement and not with power but you are too stupid to understand that
Well give me some better examples dolt and yes he sucks.retard. You are talking about a guy who need to expend a lot of physical energy to win a point, he sucks.
I picked Del Po to win against Rafa. He simply has too much fire power and Nadal's topspin plays into his game. I'm surprized you didn't pick Del Po as a fav to win the lower half of the draw
Guy certainly has the game and will win his share of majors when it's all said and done. However, I was hesitant to pick him after he got tired in a best-of-3 vs. Murray. He's been lucky so far in the sense that he hasn't played any long matches and only faced two low seeds before Nadal. But I don't want to take anything away from what DelPo has done -- great player / performance and he completely deserves to be in the final.
well, we have to wait for next year... great disappointment but from the other hand Del Potro is in excellent shape and he deserves to be at the final.
A little disappointed -- I love Federer - Nadal matchups. But you have to hand it to Del Potro. He totally dominated Rafa and deserves to be in the final. Great, great player.
yep. although a Nadal-Federer US open final would have been epic, of course not to say that his match against del potro would be anything short of spectacular.
i can't see nadal getting to the final, del potro hits the ball too hard too low for nadal. he is that height which is prefect for them topspin forehands of nadal's, the ball sits up perfect 4 him. if del potro performs and doesn't make too many unforced errors, i can't see nadal touching del potro.
i went for a del potro v federer final before the tournament.
My focus in this video was on a potential Nadal - Federer final (which seems unlikely now). We filmed another video where I talk about the Nadal - Del Potro match.
i'm was just a bit surprised you didn't pick del potro over nadal, his shots are too low too hard for nadal, especially nadals topspin forehand to del potro's backhand. the ball sits up perfect for the tall del potro.
i'm sure you realized all this before the match aswell.
You picked a Nadal/Federer final? I seem to recall you predicting Federer would win the French Open also. I'm going to have to start going down the Bookies with your predictions : )
Federer has to play Nadal the way he played Murray/Djokovic in the tournament before the US Open.
I forget the name of the tournament, but many were saying that Federer was returning to 2006-2007 play, with his relatively easy wins over Murray/Djokovic. His shots were placed perfectly, solid strategy, and unafraid whipping forehand winners.
For example, you'd think he keep in the rally, but out of nowhere, he'd just hit a flat forehand straight on the baseline. Effortless.
thanks. i think Rafa has improved a lot on the hard court. i sure hope if that Fed will take the trophy, his tennis is just so much more creative and attractive. there is no doubt he can beat Nadal in any surface, but he has to play freely, unafraid. more often than not he gets really bothered by Rafa's running like crazy and making some insane shots. he has to get pass those shots and stay focus.
There are two things I believe would help federer against nadal.
1. Run around backhand on Nadals serve, especially on second serve.
2. Federer should not slice when returning Nadals serves, I hate when he does that, he automaticly starts the point in weaker position. Instead, he should use the incoming balls pace to put it gently away to Nadals backhand. Then he gets a better outcome of the point.
I think that nadal from time to time during a match plays to defensive, what if nadal played really offensive against federer, what would happend then?
It may help to a degree. However, Nadal's technique is more geared toward spin / defense vs. offense (particularly on his forehand). I know that he's been trying to change this a bit -- hit a bit flatter on occasion.
I think, as his game is now, it would be somewhat difficult for him to play consistently aggressive tennis. But if he changed some things / practiced for a bit I have no doubt he could do it.
He surprised us all with his more offensive game at the Australian Open. It seems like he can change modes whenever he can. Fed knows this more than any one else.
nice analysis. You didn't predict who would end up as the winner in the Rafa vs Fed final though (assuming both will make it to there). Your predictions are usually correct, so it would be nice to know what you think :)
Thanks. I am still in big surprise that you picked Federer and Nadal to make it to the final considering Nadal's time off due to health issues and lack of match practice. It looks like they may both make it to the final. You did a pretty darn good job with this prediction lol.
Problem for federer is that Nadal amazingly return looking-unreturnable winning shots consistently with his forehand, which makes federer embarrassed to hit one more extra shot that could be unforced error. so, I think federer need to attack nadal's backhand more, because I notice that Nadal's backhand is more prone to errors.
I disagree. Nadal`s backhand is one of the most solid shots in the game. When it comes to hitting neutral balls, it`s better to hit to Rafa`s backhand, since he can`t hurt you as much on it as with his forehand. However, if you are going to attack with a good shot, it`s better to attack his forehand; it can force him into errors or get a short ball from it. He has a much longer back swing on his forehand and needs more time to setup than his backhand.
I just come back from watching 2008 french open final, you are a little bit right about that, but I think this time, roger need to mix up his attack on both sides of nadal, It's not because Nadal has better defense on his backhand than forehand, but because Federer's forehand is much more powerful when attacking nadal's forehand side. however nadal have weaker defense on his backhand. It looks like Nadal have lefty hand advantage over federer.
Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see a Nadal- Federer Us Open Final. Rafa got beaten 08,09, and when he got through this year everyone really thought we would, but no I witnessed with my own to eyes as Novak Djokovic advanced to his second final. Fed lost the final because he was tired.
Anyone who has got married will know what a big thing it is and how you feel for the first few months after.
Anyone who has had children will know what a big deal that is too, and how tiring afterwards.
How about winning your first ever French, winning a career slam.
How about breaking it 2 weeks later in an epic 5 set final at Wimbledon infront of your family and heros?
Then flying to the US with your new family!

I predicted Federer would win the tourney before it started. Sticking w/that pick.

Thanks. I am still in big surprise that you picked Federer and Nadal to make it to the final considering Nadal's time off due to health issues and lack of match practice. It looks like they may both make it to the final. You did a pretty darn good job with this prediction lol.

Problem for federer is that Nadal amazingly return looking-unreturnable winning shots consistently with his forehand, which makes federer embarrassed to hit one more extra shot that could be unforced error. so, I think federer need to attack nadal's backhand more, because I notice that Nadal's backhand is more prone to errors.

but, It's okay I forgot It's the fastest court, so federer will execute that stratege more easily.

because Nadal will be unable to defend and return fast federer's winning shots on faster court.

Yes that's a nice point.
