My goodness, I just about remember this episode it was around 1976. Superb submission. I've been trying for months to find this man on YouTube. I could not remember how to spell his sir name. I tried all sorts of permutations. Bob Sines, Bob Simes... Nothing till today.
i was 8 when this was shown. i remember putting a casset tape recorder by the tv so i got the sound. got the book that went with the series, made the glider and the yacht. and havnt stopped building model aircraft ever since.
@blaster2012 Yeah, the classic National Health glasses. You forgot to mention the kipper tie and radius collars. Those are things I will not miss about the 70's. The fashion was really dreadful, especially among those Saturday morning Open University types talking about vectors, structures and such like...
Oh goodness, this is just brillliant. I grew up with this wonderful programme in the late seventies and it propelled me into model making in the eighties. Bob was the greatest uncle one could never have....more please!
I seem to remember a balsa wood plane flying in the opening credits, covered in a clear material so you could see its skeleton. I remember my brother saying he was going to build one and me slagging him off saying he struggled with an airfix lol..... thx for posting
Oh wow!!! I tuned in to this delightful programme relgiously after "Why Don't You?" in my early teens. I even bought the accompanying book. I'd LOVE to see more, including the "Trains & Boats & Planes" intro if you have it. Thanks SO much for posting!
Why can't we have educational programs like this today? Thanks for posting.

Hi sonicstep. I recorded the program on to VHS tape at the time it was shown.
I will try to transfer the full recording before the tape degrades and the tape player gets recycled.

It's not a motor. It's an ENGINE !!!

@hopeso Yes, that's something that always irritates me as well. Motors are electro mechanical machines.
