  • Awesome!

  • I laughed so hard when they changed mounts for he almost ran into a wall and she hadtrouble with the spin and sliding stop lol just goes to show you that western and english are equal neither one is harder i know i ride both styles

  • JESUS I think that dressage rider nearly ripped the poor QH mouth open lol.

  • no dressage wins i hate reining or what ever that stupid stuff is called

  • Reining wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE DRESSAGE!!!

  • Dressage wins!

  • WOW! that was soooooo kul! savaeg! muct try it!XD

  • I ride western, but both styles are pretty in their own right. Horses are just beautiful creatures. My horse can't turn on the hindquarters like that though. :P Well, not unless he's heading back towards his paddock. XD

  • bisschen sehr doll im maul gezogen beim zweiten sliding stop, nachdem sie getauscht hatten. :l aber sonsten cool : )

  • That dressage person is amazing!

    -J

  • ENGLISH! Loved them both but to those saying dressage trainers use harsh devices in the horses mouths, they get disqualified if there's evidence of that and many don't.

  • @LadyPersnickety its dressage not just english

  • @SpiritLoverLoveYou i know. I'm just saying I prefer the english style

  • @LadyPersnickety oh ok

  • Omg XD It was amazing how you see almost the same patterns repeat themselves in reigning and dressage, I never looked at it that way ^^ It's fun to see how they try to ride each other's horses though! And amazing that, considering the basic differences in communication between both sports, how well they do!

  • lol sooo funny!!!!! i've tried western before it's good fun! :D

  • I ride English but I love watching western and I hope to ride western one day!

  • Is not Dressage Vs. Reining, but is "Dressage AND Reining" :)

  • I love when they swapped but they both would have trained to do both things :D

  • I just agree both have their challenges. both are very talented horses and riders. <3 I love both english and western. I choose the est of both worlds, rather than limiting myself to one ;D

  • woot... western wins by a lot.

  • WESTERN ALL DA WAY!

  • That reining horse is BEAUTIFUL! People say that reining is western dressage, I say that dressage is english reining ;) They are so beautiful when done right and I love them (though I prefer reining ;) ) :D

  • That was too funny!!! Both of these forms of riding are complex in their own ways & are very similar. It was neat to see them side by side & changing horses. Thank you for posting this!

  • This is hilarious, I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing!

  • What is the song at the beginning? I know I've heard it before but just can't put my thumb on it... anyone know?

  • @MsAltarEgo It's from The Black Stallion I think? from the TV show, it was either the ending credits and/or the opening. :)

  • @MsAltarEgo enno maricone famouse song by him

  • @unicorn0709 fuck my grammar sorry

  • Yes you may be right but most don't. I have taught my horse to do that without harming him. Just use running side rains they allow for the horse to bring his head down but if he puts it up they don't hurt him just give a small reminder that that isn't correct.

  • I ride English and Western - but I must say, Western TOTALLY wins here. Dressage is (personally - so no one jump on my case) very disrespectful to horses. Did you know that people purposely attach some device thing from the bit to the hock which causes the horse pain every time he moves so he learns to keep his head tucked like that? Seems a bit wrong, eh? So where the Western horse is relaxed, calm, and not forced, I say rock on (; PLUS THE ENGLISH GIRL PUSHED THE GUY :0

  • @TwinkiesCanFly that's horrible to hear! But that must be a personal choice of trainers, becuase the trainer at our dressage barn doesn't do that, the horses here at least learn biuld their way up to it. But personally I'd prefer jumping, since my instructors keep telling me I like to keep my stirrups at a hunter/jumper position and I prefer being in the overall seat of a hunter/jumper. ^-^ Western seats my favorite for trail riding, though! Except for jumping over logs XP lol

  • @TwinkiesCanFly But then again, we're more of the 'natural headset', type of dressage barn; where the horse doesn't have it's head held up but their nose is more in line with the bottom of their chest. =)'

  • @TwinkiesCanFly Yeah, but there are bad trainers in every discipline. For example, in Western Pleasure some trainers tie the horses heads up high for hours and hours so when they go in the ring they are to tired to hold their head up and therefore achieve the desired dragging the ground look. So Western doesn't win over English because it is more humane. Dressage, done properly, is great for a horse.

  • @SierraGal99 Haha of course! Every discipline has it's fails. Like in barrel racing when the riders keep kicking their horse regardless of how hard the horse is trying or how fast it's running. Or in racing when they break 2 y/os and run them till they're hurt and then they throw them away. I believe that every discipline can be beautiful, but at times, anything that involves the placing of metal into another animals mouth to try and control it is wrong. That's why I enjoy English, but also

  • @SierraGal99 really enjoy natural riding (tackless, bareback, bitless etc.)

  • The English rider on the western horse doesn't sit down she leans back lol

  • haha i love how easily he hopped on that horse i wouldda had to bounce lol xD love it :]

  • I loved watching this!

  • Haha english forever fuck western style :D

  • @pegasecam have you actually ridden western? or are you speaking out of ignorance? i ride western, but i also did dressage and show jumping. i came back to western because it suited who i am more than english, but please don't look down on western riders because you don't have a clue what whe're doing. awesome vid

  • The Same Show like Fest der Pferde 2008!

  • This So dubunks the whole western is better than english, english is better than western. Both riders stuggeled on there new mounts. I pearsonaly like dressage more than reining but reining is awesome too. There just different, everybody is untilted to an opinion. Riding is riding.

  • @Horselovers2171 I love english but I also love to watch western and maybe not to ride western but still I think anything to do with a horse is amazing! :D So I think people should just be quiet and stop saying this is better then this because they are all good!

  • English is known for being more collected, while western lets the horse stretch out more. The cowboy crossing himself was awesome, remind me never to let a dressage rider attempt to ride my reining horse, the spins were not tight, and those sliding stops were not straight.

  • Funniest thing ever!

  • lol.. this video is cute

  • Love it!!! ROFLMAO!! I loved that "side pass" in the beginning. Thanks for posting!

  • lol!! The horses get so mad when they change riders cause nither of them can control the others mount!!

  • the english horse looks so.. prissy

  • 1:18

English horse : DUDE WTF! D:

  • As soon as I started this video I was thinking "anything you can do..." and then it came on!! Perfect song.

  • I LOVE when they switch horses!

  • Im a western rider and i have nothing against people who ride dressage both ways of riding are equally hard but dressage tends to be a little harder do to the fact you have a lot more leg work in an english saddle where are in a western not as much

  • GO REINING!

  • Just goes to show you (as I have been saying for years) both western and English demand a high level of skill and training on the part of horse and rider, both are an art form. One is not better than the other. I wish more people could appreciate different riding disciplines and realize they have been developed for different functions rather than bash them and say "My way is better!" Thank you for sharing this.

  • Pretty awesome..

  • I bet the dressage woman/man have tried a reining horse before ;)..

But it looks cool when they do such shows! I prefer western..

  • That was cool! I'll bet they enjoyed that. lol!

  • dressage means training of the horse reining jumpiing what ever all have the basic aids love dressage and ride reining and dressage as once you educate your horse you can do both......goes to show when you ride with each other without criticiseing the other we can learn from each other happppy riding ...lesley

  • Die dressur reiterin freut sich riesig immer den sliding stop zu machen

  • Reining! (: <3

  • hahahahahahahahaha! I just relized just how similar they really are!

  • Nearly died laughing when he crossed himself. I ride English, but I love how easygoing yet hard Western is. 100% adore this. Now lets add a jumper!

  • that is soooo funny and amazing !

  • I love it! This just goes to show no ones better than anyone :)

  • that was so funny. reining is so much more exciiting in my opinion, but dressage is very elegeant and graceful.

  • English saddle omg i love you !!

  • lol there should be a Race horse and jumping horse there aswell that would be good to watch the reining person gets on the TB (race horse) and leans forward BYEEEEEE !!!! xD stopppppp !!!! haha lol

  • 1:10 :P Loved that part! :)

  • That dressage rider was ripping on the reining horses mouth. Makes me angry.

  • the dressage guy just likes to go fast!

  • @MieziesDosenoeffner Ja, nee is klar

  • OMG! das arme Westernpferd! als der Dressurreiter drauf sitzt reißt der dem armen Pferd ja nur im Maul rum! soll der die Stops doch lassen wenn der das ohne Handeinwirkung nich kann-.-

  • O HORRIBLE, There is no Harmony between the rider and the horses ! A poor copy from Fest der Pferde 2008 Look this Video with the western and the dressage riders !

  • @ElbensternTara you're absolutely right!

  • Wow, what a beautiful performance. I grew up with english riding but today I live for Reining. Sometimes I do dressage for fun but in my heart I'm a cowgirl, lol :)

  • man I love this sport

  • I love how they traded hats!!!! Cute

  • omg that was awesome, i like the dressage better but i ride english myself so. . .

  • great video...i love how they both struggle when they get on the other one's horse lol. both riders were really awesome to agree to this. dressage and reining are different but equal.

  • I consider Reining the western version of Dressage

  • @horsesaremylife31899 reining is the western version of dressage

  • @DeadJustBecause Wait what did I say last time ?

  • @horsesaremylife31899 But reining is so "simple" and basic compared to dressage. For example, the reiners get applause for a simple, single flying lead change, whereas upper level dressage riders have to do tempi changes down a straight line! I interviewed Shawn Flarida and asked how long it takes to really finish a reining horse: "Two years", he said. Dressage horses don't reach the peak of training until they are around 12. It is A LOT more complex!

  • lol! love it when she pushes him!

  • REINING! GO REINING!

  • I'm a reiner. But hey, I have to admit when I was little, I wanted to do dressage. This video sure made my day (:

  • Definatly the reining. The dressage rider and horse look so tense and nervous. When you put the reining horse and dressage horse next to eachother the reining horse is more relaxed and looks nicer. I ride reining and all around show/performance horses. So I guess that is kind of my opinion but I still think that it looks better than the dressage horse.

  • @allaroundshowgirl97 Dressage horses are trained to round like that. The dressage horse is actually really relaxed. It may look tense but it's not. English and Western horses are just trained differently. I'm an English rider but I've ridden horses that have been recently turned from Western to English and there is a big difference training wise. Both horses look relaxed but I can see how someone would think that the dressage horse looks tense, even though it's not.

  • @prettyponies7 Lol nooo i wish i got it on video i never thought of recording it XP

  • Lol i was there it was so awesome!!! This video didnt show it but he takes his horses bridle out when doing one of the spins!!!!

  • @BlackFand1000 haha really! wish i got that on video! :P

  • this video isn't really nice....the western rider is not so good like the classic one and the most time you only see the classic rider....pity

  • der Reiner tut mir Leid!

  • sry leute aber man sieht voll wie der dressur reiter beim stoppen und spinnen an den reins zieht..ähm sry aber das geht nicht..das pferd öffnet ja schon vor schmerzen sein maul..

  • I have shown and trained dressage and still like reining better!

  • Haha, this just showed me real equestrian beauty... I thought dressage was superior until I saw them trotting side by side, equal collection, one horse wound up and tense, the other just moving to the beat.

Dressage TEND to be so tense, notice how when the dressage rider mounted the reiner, his whole disposition was more tense and tight, then the dressage horse was more relaxed and loose with the cowboy? LOL

  • Reining is better it is more natural for the horse and it can be more relaxed

  • OMG i LOVE this!!! super smart!!! so much the same but so different!

  • western

  • ich finde die galopppiurette und der spin wurden schlecht ausgeführt ... aber ansonsten sahs eigentlich gut aus

  • and this is why I LOVE both ways of riding

  • autsch, das westrenpferdchen reißt bei reiter 2 ziemlich das maul auf!

  • @LiSa88360

Das hab ich auch gerade gedacht!!!!!!!

  • @lena95ful

    Ich auch :[

  • @23Lisa23casparie23 Ich auch!

  • Haha I used to do dressage on my OTTB and now I rein on my QH. They are pretty equal. Reining might not appear so difficult because it's supposed to look effortless. Not only do you add speed for difficulty, when you circle/lead change/stop at center, it means at center! You lose points for being off center. Also, rundowns are usually 10m off the fence, and you stop according to the cones or markers on the fence, then ride out on the tracks you came in on. It's alot harder then it looks!!!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO!

  • hahahahahahaha 0:24 LOL

  • that was awesome!

  • I am a western rider, but I want to learn to ride english and I would love to learn dressage. When I do get that chance, I will use my little paint mare that I show in halter and wp and and I don't care about anyone else's opinion. With lots of patience and hard work she will be as good at it as any warmblood!

  • @deuceschinagirl aw good for you! the QH mare that i lease who was originally bred for halter, broken western, but she excells at jumping, and her dressage and lateral work has really improved! :]

  • @prettyponies7 actually, with western pleasrue, I do a little bit of latteral work. When I'm shoowing that is how I get her to move over without it being to obvious. A horse should be able to do what ever you want regardless of breeding.

  • @deuceschinagirl I think she will do dressage very well...:)

we have a quarter horse mare who do dressage amazing :)

  • @deuceschinagirl , my appy x cob was bred for racing but excells at dressage, so go for it and good on you!

  • @Mybabyfurbie Thank-you! :)

  • @deuceschinagirl thats a hanovarian lol not warmblood... warmbloods are more jumping horses.... im a dressage rider, and good luck with dressage training its funn :D xx

  • Respond to this video... Is it me or do western horse looks lazy and sooooo un elagent????

  • @showjumpingchick1994 I think they just look more relaxed - who would want to ride like a dressage rider if you had to round up cows. Might get very tiring with all that elevation n' all!

  • @McKeeMargie oh im not saying its not good i ride, english western, side saddle and spanish and all are very different... just think in this show they could have made the western horse pick up alittle like on the others .. but show is very good though.. exellent dressage skills on both behalf

  • @showjumpingchick1994 Fair eneough.

  • It shouldn't matter what breed of horse you choose to use for the discipline you favor. Some people can't afford to buy an expensive horse that is bred for a specific thing. They have to use the horse they have.

  • I like the one from "Fest der Pferde 2008" better. This one looks like they've just copied the idea.

  • Good video...Actually though, come on, I don't see how reining can compare to dressage...dressage involves much, much more than reining...basically, reiners are one trick ponies!

  • @pattyepattye And you patty, prove my point perfectly. Dressage riders are elitist and arrogant. Checkmate.

  • @pattyepattye Have you yourself tried reining? I agree that there may be less maneuvers, it does not mean that they are "one trick ponies". They work to add different elements, such as a lot more speed, to gain points. Also, there is a lot of things reiners need to know that you do not exactly see in the ring. They also needs to do a lot of collection and suppling exercises.

  • too bad the majority of dressage riders are elitist and arrogant.

  • @shezcurvi soooo not true!!!

  • @TeddyHorse2293 I manage an equestrian center, and can tell you that they indeed are in my neck of the woods. They assume they are the only ones who spend large sums of money on horses, feel that their needs for excellent footing are exclusive to their own discipline. I could go on but prefer not to.

  • Hmm. Each are truly masterful. I prefer DOING reining, but dressage is much more beautiful to WATCH.

  • Ha!i love it when the dressage rider pushes the reiner xD both of these horses are beautiful in many ways :D

  • Love the vid. Though I think they could have chosen a much better choice for the reining horse/rider...his spins were very sloppy..his leg yield was poor..not impressed. The dressage horse and rider did amazing together. Its expected to not see perfection after they switched horses.

I train horses for both dressage and reining, and am very thankful to be able to perform and understand both disciplines very well.

  • Thahaha shit English rider. Western is the best ♥

  • @Banditozi Can you take your hateful nature elsewhere? Thanks.

  • @Banditozi you are ignorant.

  • i ride both wesern and eng there equal not one is betterthen the other :P

  • GO! reining

  • I Like the video ALOT!!

  • i love that aprocot dun and i think its funny when they swich the reiner ran the dressage horse into the wall lol and the dressage rider almost fell off on that spin lol

  • omg :) brilliant

  • that looked like so much fun! reining would be the only western sport that i have interest in and i'm guessing thats only because i'm a dressagefreak XD

  • Haha!!! Thats sooo funny! That little grey QH was definitely the star of the show!

  • Neat comparison between the 2 types.

  • haha funny as :)

  • SO cool! it's nice to see them get on each other's horses and notice how different it is

  • awesome video!

  • There are two horses at my barn that do dressage and one is a western pleasure horse.

  • that was great

  • Love it love it love it!!!

  • LOL, this just proves how similar and differant we actually are.

Dressage can no longer say they are superior to reining, and reining cannot say they are superior to dressage. You can see both riders were having problems signalling their new mounts!

    Haha, great vid!

  • haha, I agree :)

    and thanks!

  • THAT WAS AWSOME LOL!!

  • I LOVE REINING

  • haha i loved that part of the show!

  • What a beautiful display of how both riding styles are equal, and one can not be better than the other.

  • @Horselvr139 Well; their roots are, after all, so similar. Dressage came from Roman Horse Back Military maneuvers, Reigning came from Herding cattle (when you consider most of the cattle had HORNS and were damned unpredictable...). Not so big a difference. When you consider both require both skill and trust from BOTH sides of the partnership...Well. They're BOTH damned hard, and require a serious commitment.

  • lol this was like one of the best parts of the night!! :) lol you must have been sitting in the same arena as me cuz we both had the same sorta view :P lol

  • Thanks so much for posting these! I was planning on going, but wasn't able to after all. Love the videos, and will deff. be going next year!

  • I laughed myself sick in the audience.. as an old time dressage competitor and someone who's competed against Gillian, I was hugely impressed by her participation, and my goodness what a show they gave us! I'd LOVE to have the whole thing online - I stopped recording when they dismounted and am kicking myself now, but was laughing so hard I couldn't film at all this aft!

  • soo cool.!

  • that was awesomeeee

  • Haha that was awesome.

  • lol hahaha

  • HALARIOUS

  • OHHH SHIZZZ BATTLE TIME!!
