  • Thank you! this video was very helpful i popped that badboy out and switched my speakers! and you sound like Fred Stoller

  • Does anyone know what size the speaker is?

  • @rcraft92 the speaker is 6.75 inches. 6.5s will fit too.

  • Sweet, thank you!

  • On the panel that you lifted, there is a material insert (either fabric or almost patent-leather) on the panel itself. On yours, it is that sort of semi-circle on the upper right. How does that little insert separate from the panel? Both driver and passenger door-armrests are cracked underneath the material on mine.

  • @ThreeDaysOfDale I have never removed that piece before.Next time i take one of those panels off i will see how it comes apart

  • i had no problem taking the panel off but for the life of me i cant get the rods back in the the door handle. iv been at if for an hour now and starting to get really frustrated. have aany tips? thanks in advance great videos by the way.

  • @elcajon619 Take a stiff wire and put a hook on the end then use it to put the rods on.

  • @richpin06a i was able to get the door handle back on before seeing your comment but i did essentially the same thing i took a little pice of yarn to hold the rods in place while i monovered the handle to the right spot and then pulled on the yarn to pull the rod into place. thanks for your help!

  • panel lifts up like the video thanks

  • i have a sl2 power windows almost same ??

  • @wildwind03 Yes it is.

  • do you think its maybe possible to cut a hole where the speaker is and some how clamp it back on...because when i did this it was a hassle!!

  • @monkeyguys55 Anything is possible

  • @pc12nut The gen 1s are a little different.

  • I needed that tool to remove the handle... too bad! :P

  • my window is automatic and has stopped working (the clip is broken most likely) i dont want to pay a repair shop $150 on a $4 part like i had to last time. i cant remove the handel in worried about breaking something. i cant figure out the wires disconnect. help.

  • A few tricks I learned from replacing the front speakers in my 98 SL:

    - You can get the D.S. door panel off without taking the mirror stick apart.

    - Use tape to hold the metal speaker clips in place until they're screwed in.

-During reassembly, it's easier to put the spring clip on halfway first then put the crank on and finish with the clip tool.

    - Make your own GM speaker adapters from the old speakers' connectors and save yourself $20.

    - Remember to keep your speakers in phase!

  • Great video, and my savior. But what a load of crap on Saturn's part. There's no reason why it should be this difficult to change a speaker in a car. Automotive engineers should have to try working on the cars they create so they know how idiotic their designs can be.

  • do you know what size the front speaker is??

  • @monkeyguys55 Gee sorry i do not but crutchfield shows a 6 1/2 fits in the door.

  • @monkeyguys55 6.5 fits i have some

  • Thanks for this video! It helped out a lot.

  • lots of help, thanks!!!

  • I cant seem to get the rods off when you use the little pully thing. Mine seem to be really stuck in there

  • @MatrixTime69 Did you open the locking piece before trying to remove the rod

  • @MatrixTime69

Some models use a U-shaped plastic clip to hold the rods in place, instead of just a wedge type lock. You need to twist them out, then you can pull the rods free. I discovered this on my own saturn well...yesterday. Though my sisters '96 SW2 doesn't have them, different lot from 3mo earlier. Mine is a late '96.

  • ok ok i seen this kind of vid a hungred times but what if i want to do a crank window to a automatic roll up window conversion or just take the controls out of the door interaly and have a hydrlaic door opener on it

  • Thaaaaaaank youuuuuuu!

  • This was really helpful thanks Rich

  • Big help! Thanks so much for posting! Very informative.

  • Hello Rich - first off, excellent videos, they are brilliant for us "wanna-be-mechanics"

Question for you, seeing that I now can remove my interior door panels, is there a way to convert manual windows & manual door locks to power everything? Are the Saturns pre-wired for everything? Mine is a 1999 SC1.

    Thanks again Rich!!

  • @MrCanucklhead I do not believe they are prewired.

  • @MrCanucklhead

Rich, I just replaced my front stock speakers and this video was key. Thank you so much for this video and, thanks again for all the Saturn related vid's you produced. I have done so much work on my car and she's running great now !!

Because of you, I fear no install.............

If you ever come to Canada for a trip, the beer is on me!! Providing I'm there with yaa!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, you make it look so easy!

  • The square silver bolt behind the door handle on my car actually fell into the door. What could i replace it with?

  • video needs more close-ups, and we need to see what your pulling on the door handle, all you can see is magic-voodo and a yank? Other than that, good deal.

  • This was one of my earliest videos.I use more close-ups on later videos.

  • GreaT gREAT vIDEO mAN Thanks....

  • Thanks! Very helpful video. Everything worked just like you said it would. I got the clip off of the window crank with a thin knife blade. I made a pull rod from a piece of bent coat hanger wire, and it worked fine.

  • can you do a more detailed and zoomed in video on how to remove the "rods" that connect to the door opener and door lock, they seem to give me the most trouble as i'm not sure how to remove them when trying to remove the inner door panel

  • Thanks, unfortunately, I just spent hours on my 1997 Saturn SW2 on the driver's side door to install a new speaker Rockford-Fosgate P1653 series 6.5" speaker. However, on the passenger side I will use the excellent Richpin techniques. I searched saturn fans and the web but found nothing except 1995 and older saturn vehicles where the speaker grill just pops out.

  • I put those exact speakers in my 02 SL2 this video helped so much , thanks rich!

  • The lock button on my door went bad. Thanks to this video, it saved me from breaking the lock mechanism on the door

  • my 97 and my 99 s series both have bad speakers on the front passenger sides also

  • PLEASE POST MORE VIDEOS THANK YOU.

  • Thank you very much!!! Although I'm not sure how you pulled off those two rods so easily, I did get the job done (but lost the plastic piece off one of the rods). I still have no idea how those were supposed to be pulled off - I used a lot of force to pull them off and it sounded like something broke every time.

Again, THANK YOU! I can't believe I actually somewhat considered spending $45 at ABC Warehouse to have them install my new speakers.

  • hey man wat size are saurn speakers i got a 97 sl1?? door and rear any idea thanks...

  • Right on Rich!

Thank god I saw this. I would have destroyed the hooks pulling on the panel.

  • I'd say while your in there, lube-up the door handle works, the window crank/regulator and the the door locks.

  • Excellent

  • You are the man! thanks alot for real!

  • again - thanks!!

  • great video I would have pulled straight out on the panel thinking it had those stupid push pin things.

  • You are awesome! - The inner door handle plate was wht was holding me up - Thank you soooo much!

  • Thank you sooooo much!

  • Thanks for the info, I'm replacing my speakers.

  • Thanks for all the videos, Rich! You put Chiltons to shame!
