When I first saw this game and its visual style, I bought it on day one as well as the sequel. These game were just pure fun and the shooting style, over the top. Still play these games every now and then.

Nice gameplay dude the gungrave series is awesome by just lookin at the gameplays and anime and playing and owning gungrave overdose. by the todays standards of gaming people or critics prefer shooters with realism and first person viewing (witch hurts my eyes) still nice video

Man...what ever happen to shooters like this? What ever happen to just shooting everything that moves, blasting everything to pieces in the most unrealistic ways possible? This game is a masterpiece that should've gotten more attention. A shame such a great shooting experience is overlooked by most people because of length, it's about as long as an arcade shooter, which is just fine. Why can't we have more shooters like this instead of CoD? Great video teh2Dgamer, keep it up.

I still have this game and it's sequel. My advice to anyone who's looking to try the game out is to skip Gungrave and pick up Gungrave Overdose instead. Much longer, improved gameplay and more replay value. When I was doing score runs through Gungrave I was able to beat the entire game in less than 20 minutes. All the talk about the length of the game is true, Gungrave is really short.

If I remember right, this game only took me about 3 hours to beat. I remember it being really short but it feels like an action arcade game. Sometimes it is nice to be able to beat a game in one sitting.

@MrRenevelez I know the anime spawned from the game. And still I think it's cool looking mafia anime with weird twists (undead shooters and all).

Also, I have the games you've mentioned (yup original copy of DMC1) so I fully now what's good and what's not. I like length in games.

I call this gen the DLC gen. Hardly you can find a good game not butchered into pieces.

When I say I think Greenday is one of the most overrated bands of all time, am I talking about some critic somewhere rating the band? No, I'm talking about all the hype and attention. When I say another band is completely underrated, am I again talking about some supposed review scores? No. It has to to with the amount of attention they get. Hence underrated=overlooked.

i don't know much about this game but as i see it the used cell shadeing (like borderlands) witch is rarley done in video games because of the way it looks but it is less cost and faster to make it this way from the looks prob early ps2 game mabie 2003. i would give it a 7.5

the idea behind this game was so sick. i hated the fact that part 2s graphics wer not as good and that he changed his wardrobe and lost his hat. but other than that both games wer really good. though part 1 should of been longer

I had this game back in the day, probably the first PS2 game I owned, and one of the first games Sega put out after they became 3rd party. I thought it was pretty awesome, even though it was extremely clunky. I have to wonder, what happened to Sega? It seems as of the last gen, all their internal development staff just jumped ship, and now they are a publisher. It's RARE to see a Sega game that has that same swagger that they used to have.

There is very little developers nowadays who make these niche games. Makes me regret selling my PS2 collection which has at one point over 1000 games (we pretty much had the whole library). I think i may start recollecting them which may indeed prove impossible considering some of the hard to find/rare games i had.

As for me - this is trash game and it is not underratted at all. I've played it about 2 hours. Fun, yes. But this is not PS2 level. It will be okay if this game was made on PSX, but for PS2 times it is too weak.

I bought the whole Gungrave DVD series as a result of playing this game and its sequel. Eventually went on to watch Trigun. It's incredible what a 14$ game can do to your life.

Well, it's not like the PS2 was a graphical powerhouse.

You probably remembered the graphics looking better than they did, but you've probably played more graphically intense games since you played this one which make this one look dated.

I personally don't care about graphics except for things like a game's frame rate, because that effects the gameplay.

Eh...it looks really repetitive for my taste. I enjoy a good shoot em up. But with some variety. Tredging through similar looking terrain is really boring after a while with similar enemies.
