I'm gonna have to go with Jordan. I admit that kobe is better than jordan in scoring output (81pts), but jordan had higher scoring averages which means he is more consistent even though kobe has ridiculous 30+ppg averages as well. kobe would be shooting closer to 50% if he did not shoot so many 3's.

Last point I want to make, the rings kobe won was because of shaq who was named mvp in all the nba finals the lakers won, which proves shaq was the main show during that period. jordan had no dominant center in luc longley, he had an allstar in pippen, 6th man in kukoc, and role players in rodman, harper, kerr, etc. it was jordan who had to dominate and hit clutch shots in the playoffs that led the bulls to win championships.

Anyone who knows basketball knows very well that Michael Jordan is basically the face of basketball. KB's stats basically pales in comparison with MJ's, except for 3 Pointers. Jordan was a better defender(he won dpoy), Better scorer(leading scorer of all time) and was just a better player. I would pick MJ of course.

Another thing is that MJ was a leader. He had ridiculous work ethic and dedication to the game and the Chicago Bulls. He took pay cuts to resign Pippen and to sign free agents he thought would help the team. Not only that, but Jordan is the reason we have players like Kobe in the league now. It's easier to "copy," than be the first to do it. Face it, if it wasn't for Jordan there wouldn't be a lot of the superstars in the L we have today.

athletic capibilities: yes, jordan did have the better jump but kobe is definitley faster the mj in his prime. If a 28-year-old mj was to play kobe on a 1-on-1 match today, i beleive kobe would win. This is not implying that kobe is the better player, mj is still the best, but by the end of his career, kobe might just eclipse him.

michael jordan was much faster than kobe. the only player that was faster than jordan in his prime was isiah thomas (similar speed to AI) young jordan was extremely quick to a spot, to the hoop, or to the ball on defense that's why he was able to aquire such good stats early on. in fact, in my opinion, the only difference between jordan's jumping ability and kobe's is in longitude, because jordan's faster, their lateral quickness is about the same.

If so I'd like to know. Regardless though, Jordan came into the L averaging like what? 33ppg? and he was almost shooting .500 from the field. Oh, and I dunno if it's been said or not, but Jordan made his team play better. Yeah, he was a total asshole to be a team with, but he got the results. Jordan had class and in most peoples mind will always be the greatest... The Bulls, with Jordan at the helm, brought basketball to the mainstream... He made Basketball THE sport to watch. Every kid I knew, knew what 'Jordan 23' meant. These days you'd be lucky to find one kid in a school class in Australia that knows what number Kobe plays. I know, I coach basketball here. He's awesome, but he's not Jordan.
