  • Hey! Have you considered - fast abs magic (should be on google have a look)? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my brother in law got great 6 pack abs and lost a truck load of of belly fat with it.

  • how about 6am to 6pm and then drink soup, bread, tea. banana or apple, biscuit for nightcap... and then start again the next day? its my 2nd day.... can i expect good weight loss...?. oh and i drink water with bit of lemon... any good?

  • should I do the training on my fasting day or fed day if you can help me?

  • Is it better to break the fast when you wake up, while your awake, or right before you go to sleep?

  • this is for the people trying to lose weight: on your eatday, don't eat what made you fat in the first place. I'm doing this, I eat every 47 hours. It isn't easy, but it works!

  • but the days im not fasting i can eat junk food if i want to? or i have to eat healthy?

and also this intermittent fasting doesnt put your body in Starvation Mode?

and why people with eating disorders cant do this?

    thank you

  • @Kbenhamu Even if you don't change what you eat, you are still better off fasting than not fasting. I think it is very important to eat lots of vegetables and friuts as well. You have to fast for longer for your body to go into starvation mode. I am not sure about eating disorders. That is what the people who sell books say.

  • @patlowry77 thank you very much :)

  • Great Vid.. very informative. I will be posting it on my site. I will be doing a change in my diet that will incorparate fasting with a weight training stacking method... It seems to be very effective. But, many people have been asking me about the fasting, your video explains it very clearly. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Hey I am starting alternate day fasting and have a question. I understand the dinner to dinner 24 hour period fast, but wouldn't it be more effective to not eat anything at all one day and three regular meals the next? it seems a little bit like cheating or something.

  • @nob5000 Thanks for watching and I hope you like and stick with the fasting Not eating all day would be more effective to lose weight if that is the current goal. However, that would probably be difficult to maintain as a lifestyle. You also lose the benefit of eating dinner with the family. The research in the many health benefits has been mostly done with 24 hour fasting. If you want to do the all day fast, I would try it and see how you feel.

  • @nob5000 Pigging out before bed can cause problems with too much pressure in the stomach and food going back into the esophagus. I eat at normal dinner time and avoid eating much for at least 2 hours before bed.

  • Great video. I've been doing Fast-5 for about a month and find that I love the freedom all day from food choices!

  • out of interest ive started today of with this idea

  • just to clarify, if you are not intending to lose weight but simply maintain it, you eat more than normally on your eating days, correct?

What advice do you have if for example, on fasting days, one eats nothing the whole day (foregoing dinner)? What about eating breakfast instead of dinner?

  • @SubRosa999 Yes, to maintain weight you have to eat more on eating days. You can eat breakfast instead of dinner. What ever works out the best for you to fast for 24 hours.

  • @patlowry77 So you wouldn't recommend not eating at all on the fasting day? I hear all these people blabbing about metabolism and the whole shebang, and I'm just wondering if my body won't get used to it and then start to gain weight from the extra eating on the non-fast days (not that I am planning on stuffing my face). My mom (don't we always listen to our mothers?) kept on and on about how I shouldn't be eating anything exta even on the non-fast days but that is 1/2 a year with no food!!!

  • You must have the mindset, be completely committed to losing weight. Any adult with no other health issues can do it, its easy, free, and will give you real results. I love this video. Thanks for posting.

  • I found this really interesting - actually doing the stuff it takes to lose weight is a different kettle of fish

  • I'm one of the rare ppl who are trying out fasting to actually gain weight. I think my digestive system could do with the rest and repair. HGH would be nice too.

Do you use you fibre supplement on the times that you're fasting? I have psyllium husk and i'm wondering if it will mess the fast up. I get 'blocked' :)

  • @BentBuddha

I do use fiber supplements when fasting. Drink plenty of water.

  • thanks, it is the first time i am hearing of this, and i am starting it now

because i can do without food till 4 then just break all cupboards hunting for chocolates and waffels

i have fasted before 5days pure water fast, and 7days MC but ow i canot move a day

    though i have lost 11kg in the past 4months, i run minimum 7km 4-6days a week

still got 15kg to loose am gona try this

    Thanks so much.

  • @blessedfay Good Luck. I hope it works for you. I hope you are kidding about the chocolate and waffles. It is not difficult to make up for the fast and eat enough so that you do not lose weight.

  • @jmguitard That is a good question which I have struggled with. I think it is best to do weight training on an eating day. I do some high intensity interval training (HIIT) on fasting days. Carbs after HIIT block the growth hormone boost you get so it works well with fasting.

  • Will your metabolism slow down on your fast day?

  • @iamtashafierce

Not substanitally. Over time the number of calories used is decreased and the body temperature is reduced. This probably results in reduced oxidative stress and may be a big contributor to longevity.

  • @patlowry77 Thank you for replying...I have one more question, How many calories should dinner be?...If I fast all day I don't want to over eat at dinner

  • @iamtashafierce That really depends on how much and how fast you are trying to lose weight and how much you can stand. If you are trying to lose weight then probably 800 calories would be good. Try different combinations of food to see what satisfies your hunger best. I find that a large green fruit smoothie with some protien powder works very well for me. Carbs seem don't seem to work well and I am very hungry shortly after dinner.

  • @patlowry77 Thank you

  • @iamtashafierce I wouldn't start at cutting more then 300 calories at first. Your metabolism will drop way down if you cut to much.

  • @bendystix Thanks

  • @iamtashafierce Your weclome, if you have any other questions I can direct you to good information or answear some stuff myself.

  • I don't get it; how do you fast every other day and still eat dinner every night?

    Thank you for your videos.

  • @dsrtflwr Because if he has dinner at say 7pm then he wont eat untill 7pm the next night giving him 24 hours of fasting

  • Thanks for the video, very interesting.

  • A great source of information. Interested in trying ADF, your video was very helpful.

  • @athenazg - OOPS! I didn't mean to vote your comment down. It is a good comment.

  • cannot wait for more vids!

  • Thank you for the vid. I started ADF literally yesterday (Sunday) and I got through the whole day pretty well. I found I wasn't starving this morning like I thought I would be.. it was mostly a mental urge to eat something good, but when I actually went to eat I was very able to control my portions. I did not take any supplements or vitamins on my fasting day, but I think I will start. I'm just concerned about an upset stomach taking a vitamin with no food. Any advice?

    Thanks again!

  • Thankd for letting me know you are starting. I really value each persons experience and use it to give others advice. There really is a great deal of variation. I take a lot of supplements including fish oil and multivitamin on the fast day and have not had an upset stomach. I generally recommend them and have not heard otherwise. I would try and take whatever you want to take. If you have problems, cut down to the one that you really want, probably the multi. Add frm there if able.

  • This is a fantastic video. I currently practice The Fast 5 Diet but when I reach goal, may go to alternate day fasting. You need to post more videos!!!

  • Thanks for the comment. I looked at some of your videos and enjoyed them also. I am planning on some more, maybe I will have time over Christmas. I am hoping for another general advise on how to do it based on more experience from several people who have tried it. I am also hoping to do one on the Christian aspects of fasting. I like your user name. Keep it up.

    Pat

  • Pat, I found your video very informative. This is my first week of Intermittent fasting. So far, I've been fasting each day. I am taking from this video that I should definitely do strength training.

    Thank you!

    Beth

  • I've been doing IF (intermittent fasting) on and off for the past few months. For the most part, I can see benefits in terms of maintaining a healthier weight. I also like the fact that after you become used to it, you only eat when you're really hungry, and stay away from grazing. Plus food actually TASTES better. The only problem I've had so far with IF is it makes me constipated. (I can't believe I'm saying that here) But I haven't tried fiber supplements... thanks for the suggestion.

  • I hope that helps. Make sure and drink plenty of water with fiber tabs or powder.

  • looneyticks,

try psyllium husks, glucomannan, fruit pectin, oat bran and coconut flour for fiber.

  • good vid pat, I'm trying adf again, I am a diabetic and I worried that the eating days would spike my blood sugar since you eat twice as much.

  • I've been trying to research ADF. Thanks for the information!

  • Thanks for the videos, Pat. I am doing research on IF. I do not want to lose weight. Would I get the benefits of IF if my overall caloric intake remains the same as eating every day. I would have to increse my food intake on my eating day to make up for my fasting.

I read that lab animals were permitted to eat unrestricted on eating days and still got the benefits of CR. Do you believe that this is true on humans as well?

  • I think you get the vast majority of the benefits even if you completely make up for the calories on eating days and do not lose weight. There is some controversy about that. It could go either way. In the one study that showed rats lived 30% longer, the rats were only fed 190% of their normal calories on eating day. They were getting 5% fewer calories overall.

  • Chazbo,

I have been thinking more about this issue as I am pretty close to my ideal weight. I have changed so that I fast only Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I am still losing about 1 lbs. per month. It's hard to know but I think come calorie restriction or weight loss is necessary to get the full benefit of IF. When I get to my ideal weight, I may take some time off, gain about 5 lbs. and then do ADF for 5 months and repeat.

  • Great video, Pat!

  • Thanks Pat, very useful info there and a good overview of the facts of ADF!
