Sure it does. It's not like how the game plays it (how boring would that be?), but how accomplished ragtime musicians play it. Of all the recordings of Tom playing it, this one has the most filler and improvisation, but it's still quite recognizable.
I didn't start learning music and foreign languages until I was 13. I am currently 15.
Although I possess no extraordinary talent, people say that I have the ability to grasp things easily, one being the piano. However, my music reading ability is quite pathetic and I can't respond quick enough to notes on a staff. That hinders my ability to play note-filled ragtime.
Would you know of any famous ragtime composers? I would like to immerse myself more in the style. Thanks a lot!
Tom is somewhat unique. He learned to read music at the same time he was learning to read English. Exposed to ragtime via player piano rolls since birth, he has an inherent sense of the music, and because music is like another language for him, he can play a tune with embellishments differently every time, in the same way as you or I might speak the same sentence in different ways.
But then you look at Adam Swanson, who started playing when he was 9 and is already one of the greats, at age 17.
Ah. Well, Kondo didn't compose this one; Kazumi Totaka did. But I have just made a few scores for tunes that were requested by folks (mostly Kondo tunes). We'll see if Tom has time to read through them next weekend.
Tom, Julia and the rest of the band play at schools in the area. I'm sure if there were demand on local radio, they'd be up for it. But there isn't. There are a few ragtime radio shows dotted around the country, some of which are on stations that stream their feed on the internet. The Raspberries would need an album for such a radio station to play first, though, and they haven't yet recorded.
Tom Brier and Julia Riley. I have a lot of videos of Tom's piano playing. He has CDs that can be purchased online (search his name at CDBaby to find his latest, "Rewind"). Together, they are part of a ragtime band called the Raspberry Jam Band, or a smaller ensemble called Tom Brier & The Saloon Sweeties. The bands don't have a CD yet but there is demand for a Raspberries album to be made someday. They play around Northern California, especially the Sacramento area.

Imagine this in a high quality recording/with a very good microphone on the camera. I wish you could hear Julia's Flute more.

@F0nkyNinja Yeah, there was a guy standing next to me who'd had a bit too much to drink. He gets into the tune, though he'd never heard it before!

I just wonder:
Has Tom ever heard the 2 original-versions?
Quietschquatsch 2 years ago
The version of K.K. singing, yes. I sent him a link to it after his original sight-read of the tune.

Do you remember his reaction? I´m just curios...
Quietschquatsch 2 years ago
I don't recall if he wrote any reaction.

Ragtime is so cool! I love how you changed the song up a little bit. It sounds like such fun!

Try ragtimepiano(dot)ca for a site that has downloadable scores of ragtime of various styles, from both well known and obscure composers.
(note the ca -- not com)

when u say music reading ability, do you mean sight reading? like playing something that you have never learned?

Awesome! I am currently learning this song.
but... What makes him a great Ragtime Pianist?
I am learning so that I may become one myself.

Are you going to post the full versions of other K.K. Ragtime Pieces?
Morahman7vnNo2 3 years ago
You mean other Animal Crossing tunes? This is the only one that I have transcribed, since it was most appropriate to present to ragtime performers.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
No, actually I meant other Koji Kondo pieces like "Yoshi's Island Athletic" theme.

I guess not, since I don't know what you mean.

What I mean is have though of putting Ragtime on A local Radio Channel?

There is talk of it. Logistics are key. The band doesn't meet very often.
