You need quite a few pieces to build something like this. I have 9 Screamin' Serpent sets, 2 Rippin' Rocket sets, and many more, (over 10 thousand pieces) and I was practically out of pieces by the end.
The only reason the lift was fast was because I (and I believe most other people) don't like to wait forever for the train to reach the top. The motor is a dual-speed motor though, so it could have gone slower. Thanks!

@flippydog101 I used a special dual speed motor from the All Terrain Trekker K'Nex set. You can probably find it on eBay.
