In the omoplata submission, couldn't you also just grab both hands around the opponent's head and pulling up, causing excruciating pain to the opponent's shoulder, arm, neck, and head.
i know this may sound like a stupid question but why do guys who practice bjj wear knee and ankle braces sometimes? i've started mma training and when we roll nobody in the class wears any braces. i dunno are they necessary? do they help?
@khazal12 ankle and knee sleeves greatly cut down on the sweat factor and help you get a good grip. i guess some people with knee braces might have fucked up their knee
@HordeFTW111 Come on over to the main 10th Planet site and look around and ask there bro. The forum is a much better place to do it than a you tube video ;-)
Why doesn't everyone just call this by it's true name: Ude hishigi ashi garami. Also, the traditional way to execute this would be to cross your feet "Indian" style, then applying pressure. Jujutsu is Japanese not Brazillian.
brazilian jiu jitsu is brazilian. moves are copied and renamed. but then again, aren't most arts similar in one sense or another? embrace the similarities and differences.
@gixxerdeddy There is no traditional way to execute things...only variations...that is what makes bjj a great art.BJJ took much of its game from Judo (more so than traditional jujutsu ryuha) and pushed it in a different direction. As a JJJ instructor myself, it is plainly obvious the differences between JJJ, Judo and BJJ. I would never be so bold as to say that one is the other-it simply isn't true. There are many mores in BJJ that are NOT found in JJJ and vice versa.
@Submissions101 THANK YOU for saying that. there are soooo many people on youtube saying that bjj has no differences too jjj. btw i love your vids i've learned alot through them and the've helped my game greatly much love keep up the good work.
@gixxerdeddy I can show you ancient Egyptian illustrations of moves virtually identical to "Judo". I don't give a fuck where it comes from originally, only that it works. Nobody cares what you call it, your "traditional" approach is just silly.
@gixxerdeddy So, let me ask, is that folding my feet east Indian style or west Indian style. I need to know where it came from to make it work right? Will it work if I fold my feet native American style? STFU!
I never understood the name. It's essentially a kimura with the leg...I mean that's what is happening with your arm anyway. Too many names to remember for these moves haha.
Well, Omo plata means shoulder blade in portuguese. Kimura is called Kimura because of the Judo master that beat Helio Gracie. Not all that many names to keep track of. It's worse in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu, where every little damn body movement needs to have some funky name. New York, Chill Dog, Zombie, Kung Fu move, Mission control, Stoner, Jiu Claw, Gangsta Lean, Carni, Track Stance, Hang up, Meat Hook, Douche Bag, Spider Web, Electric Chair..
I agree completely brottarnacke. Jiu Claw?? You mean omoplata position!? just call it what it is. Zombie, New York etc. is cuz it helps essentially walk you through this new system of setupsyou might not used to but re-naming submissions isn't needed. Imagine starting out 10th planet as a complete noob and moving on to a more traditional team like brasa after about 6 months. That's gotta be confusing. No disrespect to 10th planet. The techniques are the names are crap just my opinion.
haha I know someone who calls all of his moves Move 1, move 2, move 3 etc. and calls all his locks, arm lock 1 arm lock 2 , and choke 1 and choke 2...hes very simple
@brottarnacke It is actually pretty easy to remember the 10th planet names. It is also nice to have each position named rather than saying "Do that move which is just before the omoplata but you are on your side trying to get it." Saying Jiu Claw works wonders when you don't want to spend hours explaining shit ;-)
my comment is pretty useless in the conversation but i ll added anyways ....omo plata is not a portuguese word but comes from the greek words omos(shoulder) and plati(upper back)...
@shaun0069 He just lost last sat against a BJJ guy that came all the way from Brazil and took the fight with a week notice. Pedro was here doing seminars and the other guy backed out. Vinny tried to pull guard and went straight for rubber guard. Pedro pulled out and left a leg but Vinny didnt take it, From there they spent most of the fight striking and working from the clinch against the cage. It was a good fight. A chess match for sure.
These 3 z mount videos have had such an impact on my game, z mount now my go to position in the mount and having a lot more succes now in mount:) thanks

Getting taped in United States, Brazil, Japan, or Russia. Doesnt matter where it came from, your still getting tapped and it all hurts the same way.
