  • it took them 5 minuets to say something they could of said in 30 seconds

  • um... i thought I was going to hear the misfits (from the carton Jem & the Holograms) singing "winning is everything" >:(

  • Great story Don, Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • This is a great story and what those girls did was amazing but the commentary in this video is horrible.

  • Miss Hall's School is an all girls boarding and day school located in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts for grades 9-12.

    nitinae

Please subscribe and watch our videos!!!

  • this would just be embarrassing, but its hilarious that she blew her knee out by going to touch first base that she missed bc shes too excited. and plus a blown out knee does not even hurt that bad. she could have at least crawled around the base. haha women sports

  • lol... he kind of reminds me of the guy that speaks in transformers

  • @xWinningisEverything

I hope you are just joking and you really aren't that lame in real life that you would have an attitude like that.

The girl hit a home run over the fence.

  • @whatskillihave What specifically do you think is a bunch of shit??

  • @rnm354 that this is being made into such a big deal

  • okay this is softball dude not baseball

  • this makes me very happy 2 b on a softball team

  • Thats really awesome!

  • this makes me proud to be a softball player.

  • My priest used this in his sermon today! The story is amazing!

  • I watched this on the news but this video is one to be shared with many children, schools and sports families across the US. Especially with summer activities abounding now for so many children this 5 mins. could make a difference to players and parents alike. Loved it!

  • The losing team, the HEROES should get some kind of city award. This is so touching and shows what true sports are about. If makes me feel so proud of her. Her parents, team mates and coach must be beside themselves with respect for Valerie.

    Jamey Mendenhall Kansas City, MO

  • WOW!

    All I can say is....'wow'.

Too choked up to say any more.

    you GO, girl!

  • I don't know if those girls really understand what they did for Sara when they gave her that homerun. Sara's team would still have won in the end, mine would've too, without the run, but that's not the point. The point is that I watch this and hope to be as good of a softball player as Mallory and the rest of her team are.

  • Wow . . . it's this kind of thing that makes me proud to be a softball player. This story really touches me, personally, because I've hit exactly one homerun in my career. My batting average: 60 at bats with a .267 (that's the whole season, don't know what it was at the time). Bottom of the sixth inning, zero-zero game, runner on first. The feeling of hitting that ball . . . to be robbed of that, I can't imagine.

  • she plays softball!!!! not baseball duh! urgh i hate when people mix that up... come on people. and yes its the best story ever

  • well said. i was pissed everytime they said baseball. idiots.

  • and when he said that it gave the team another "point"

    um... they're called RUNS.

  • i dont care if this is a year late.

who cares? why dont you go cry about it.

  • It's an amazing story of good sportsmanship. I bet guys wouldn't do that in a baseball game ... then again, I bet a guy would have also hopped around the bases with a broken foot just for the homerun.

  • This inspires me as a dad that we do have great possibilities in our youth.

  • Brought tears of joy to my eyes.

  • I just think this is the best sports story ever!!

  • I wouldn't say ever, but at least this year.

This story tells you that sportsmanship hasn't vanished.

  • Yes, sportsmanship hasn't vanished, I agree.

  • Thank you Don. This truly shows that our future is in good hands.

    Kathy

  • Mallory will probably go a lot further in life because of her sportsmanship and this game than if her team had won. He honor will serve her well.

  • I watched the 1st 25 seconds or so and fell asleep.

  • Good for you... DO you really think anyone cares????

  • If you watched this with dry eyes, check your pulse, you might be dead. Stories like this prove that the world is really a good place and that good things do happen every day. Open you eyes and your heard and you'll find good things all around you.

  • well b1randon12....one of the definitions of sportsmanship is being courteous and a cheerful loser. She hit the homerun and couldnt run and, according to the rules, even a sub could have run it for her. The other team lost but still decided to help her run....thus the sportsmanship. find a dictionary before making stupid comments like this buddy. NFL players are just plain stupid anway...too many hits to the head.

  • b1 dont ruin the thread here ..this is absolute sportsmenship you need to sit down and think more on how its done ..

  • How Awesome! Look how it turned out? They weren't meant to go to the finals...but they were winners anyway!

If you have kids...Lightning McQueen did the same thing with his opponent...helped him across the finish line...and I only thought it happened in the movies!!

Pretty awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Do you know where a video on Lightning McQueen is?

  • If you have kids, take them to the new MySportsmanship website where there are all kinds of good sportsmanship stories. Just Google "MySportsmanship" and it'll take you there.

  • Well done thank you. What an example of putting others first.

  • life is simple. people who seem little end up making monumental statements b their actions. people who seem big make pathetic little fools of themselves, proving their small i.q by their tiny little words. i am certain that Christ saw their sacrifice. sure glad He didn't decide to go for the win! there is no love greater than that someone would lay down their life for another. and THAT'S what happened on that ballfield. God bless those two players who helped her ring up her first home run!

  • How sad for you all, and the rest of those around you, that you cannot appreciate the humanity in this girl's/team's response to an opposing player. Kudo's to them! The world would be a better place if more people were like them.

  • I wouldnt have carried her. Yea...call me evil...I would have called medical help to assist her, however. Yes, like it or not, sports is about winning. In this league the rules state that if you are not physically able to run the bases yourself, without assisstance from your teeammates, then YOUR score will not count. This sport requires you stay healthy and injury-free...unfourtanately she did not...Its nothing personal, but if I was on the opposing team, I would definately be pissed off!

  • That is what makes you a stupid fuck without any sense of fairnss. But that's Ok- Stay just the way you are. It mut be getting you very far in life!

  • @b1randon12 - "...if I was on the opposing team, I would definately be pissed off!" --- yea, I was wondering if Malerie (or whatever her name was).. asked her teammates if it was okay if she could carry the girl all around the bases..LOL! I probably would have left her there too.. but only because I wouldn't have thought to take her around the bases...not because I was thoughtless.

  • that is so nice og her....and everyone that is saying correcting the person that was talking just stop cause he is just trying to get the point across!

  • in baseball is a player is hurt run the bases they're allowed to be aided on only a homerun or ground rule double the person that may aid them must be a coach or trainer. i guess softball is not to kind to hurt ppl

  • its softball not baseball lol

  • Can you add the tags, Sarah, Sara Tucholsky

  • "Remember there are two runners on base!" What a fag this guy is. Way to make a great story seem so irrelevant.

  • I was completely unmoved by this. Is there something wrong with me?

  • phiznak: Yes, there is something wrong with you.

  • yes

  • nice vid, but in baseball, its called runs...not points

and while a beautiful story, had the umps known the rules, it never woulda happened

  • the umps did know the rules, the two that carried her asked the opossing coach and the ump if it would be ok if the did that before they did, once the ump said it was not against the rules, then they carried her. How do I know? cause my little cousin plays for the team that carried the girl. and i was at the game

  • thanks!!

ladies what u did was awsome.. congrats!

wonderful, im glad there are still people

    like u in this world

  • Awesome Video. Touching...

  • 2 thumbs up!.. down here in Texas we love our sports ... winning means so much to us, but i'm willing to take a loss in this case, this brought a tear to my eye and i will show this video to my little league baseball team! thanks for the inspiration..God Bless :)

  • Hey kingtate5, I just wanted to let you know, if you want other great videos/stories of sportsmanship to show your little leagers, visit the MySportsmanship dot come website. It's like a YouTube just for sportsmanship.

  • Kingtate5, this video is up on the MySportsmanship website along with other great videos about sportsmanship from youth athletes, high school athletes, even professionals. You should check it out, just google "MySportsmanship". Kids all over the country are viewing the awesome lessons on this free "Youtube for sportsmanship"

  • Texas isnt special...the rest of the country loves "their" sports too.

  • Excellent video... thank you!

  • well, youre a bit of a douche.

someone obviously doesnt show sportsman ship if they talk like that.

  • You were probably the kid who got a trophy for just playing and you thought you were special right? Dont take it out on me for your shortcomings. This is why women are thought of as weaker. Do you think you would see this in a college mens game? In closing, eat shit

  • Ys, yes. I guess all the Ajax players were weak too when, after scoring a goal by mistake, they let the opposing team score one without opposition. Fell superior if you wish, you are the only one who does, anyway. Many physical shortcomings can be overcome, mental shortcomings like yours... are another story altogether.

  • You obviously have dried shit forbrains you scum piece of shit.

  • god bless america !!! win or die !!!

  • (in softball the rules allow for a pinch runner to finish the 4 bagger for the injured playa AND the final score was 4-2 so even if she hadn't scored the N.WASH team still lost 3-2)

  • Go fuck yourself you stupid fuck. You are the weak one!!!

  • True Sportsmanship! "it's not what you do" but "how you do it" that counts! Well done "Wildcats"!

My apologies for the word sportsMANship but thats the word I learned at school before Rosa Parks stayed in her seat!

  • Those ladies are heroes.

  • hey sup ime in 6th grade, and we had an assembly today. it was a famous folksinger i think his name was john mckuthcen or something, but anyway he had just finnished righting a song backstage and it was about this. it was so sad. when you think about it this is just plain PITY/good sportsmanship.

  • Eloquent actions Mallory...

  • Funny how they zoom in on the baseball field rather than the softball field...

  • sweet

  • cheesy broadcastr

    but good story

  • Absolutly AMAZING!!!

  • i love that. so sweet. ill remember that when i am playing in atascadero.

  • Excellent video Don!

Stories like this inspire ordinary people to do great things.

In this case evryone was a WINNER!

    Nancy PR

  • the 27 was a Sunday

  • A wonderful true story.

    Thanks for telling it.

  • Well done all 'round...

  • great storytelling. It just adds suspense especially to the part when they said Sara was in so much pain that she couldn't crawl around the bases, and the Western Oregon team was about to give up on her.

Even though Central Washington lost that game, there were no losers in that game as it taught us a valuable lesson in sportsmanship. As a hockey fan, I don't ever recall a comparable event like that.

This story will never be forgotten and is definitely worthy of winning an ESPY.

  • Good job girls! i played college baseball...i love the competition but i'm not an asshole like to johnnyu2123 who will do anything just to win..

hey man, competition is not just fighting for what u want...you also have to respect other people especially your rival.

anyway man, atleast you appreciate those girls for doing what is right...

  • First off, this is a great story but whoever suggested she "crawl" around the diamond is an idiot...she's already in pain...forget the stupid rule about a home run becoming a single...all i can say is "wow" to this level of stupidity by the coach or teammate that said that.

  • This is a great story ruined by some clown who doesn't know anything about sports. It is softball not baseball... and last time I checked you score runs not points. I applaud the girls who carried the young lady around the bases, but how athletic do you have to be to jog around the bases? Seriously! You are a division 1 athlete and you can't even do the fundamental function the sport is based around. Another knock for women's sports. Or is there such a thing?

  • dude, the reason he didn't use the word "runs" and used "points" instead is because he was concerned that people from other countries wouldn't know what he was talking about.

this is because many people in most other countries don't know much or anything about softball or baseball.

weren't you listening at the beginning of the video when he said "those of you who don't know baseball..."? and the reason he used the word baseball and not softball was for the some reason.

    don't be such a lamer!

  • 1) Sara plays Division 2 softball.

    2) Unlike pro baseball players who pose at home plate admiring their homeruns, Sara was racing to first hoping for a hit.

Actually, she was about to round first base and looked up to see where the ball was when she saw it going over the fence. In that moment, she missed the bag and had to stop and go back. It was during that change in direction that she blew out her knee.

  • oh maaan dats really nice...its not abt winning all da time... =]

  • I am a conservative... I played college basketball... I love competition and I despise losing! i would win at just about any cost...

    Just about anything...

I'm not sure if I could have done what those girls actually did when I was playing; but I am so grateful that they did.

If America would go back to these types of principles and re-found this country on those principles, the bounds of our success would be limitless!

GOD BLESS THOSE GIRLS FOR DOING WHAT'S RIGHT AND GOOD!!!

  • yes..this is a great story

  • ok this is a great story but i think u put a lil too much on this documentary. i mean listen in 1:34. come on i think ur making it sound really dramatic when its not supposed to be lol

  • that's good stuff. The voice over almost ruins it for me, but very inspirational. The meaninglessness of the game is not whats important, it wasn't about the game, clearly.

  • Very well done, and put. Too bad some seem to missing the point: it's not a 'sports' story, it's a "heroes are everywhere" story.

  • I really want to know if someone got it on video! So far, none have come up, but you never know.

  • Very very kinde, she lost the came but won the harts and more

  • Nice. There is a place in heaven for those showing this kind of compassion. Well done.

  • lol. heaven

  • 5*****

  • Yea, good work girls, you make us "ALL" proud. God Bless. Chris and Renee

  • Just for the record, narrator..

It is not points. It's runs.

And does anybody know if anyone got this sportsmanship act on tape?

  • I heard this story yesterday and today, and I wonder why this doesn't happen hardly at all in mens sports. Everyone should do it and have some integrity. Great vid.

  • Is there any video of this?

  • They are both division II schools, so thats unlikely unless it comes from an independent source like a student or parent at the game.

  • Yes...it was on ESPN today (05/02). It shows the homerun and Sara being carried around the bases but not the injury, itself. Hopefully someone will post it.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I appreciated this vid so much, I posted it to MySportsmanship. You guys should check it out - like a YouTube for Sportsmanship. Millions of student-athletes view it, and this is what they need to see!

  • This is amazing...this is what baseball, sports, and being a good human is all about.

  • Fantastic story telling.

I'm the most stoic guy I know, and that made me tear up.

  • I played ball for 18 years! and that brought tears to my eyes!!! good for you!!!!!

  • Years from now, when the girls from both teams talk to their grandchildren about sportmanship and things they were proud to be a part of in their lives, this game will probably be #1.

(I heard this game talked about on ESPN radio this morning, by the way.)

  • They are called runs, not points.

  • Great video and better message!

  • Fantastic act of true sportsmenship.

  • No sense in you folks getting offended... let's not debate this. It's too dang competitive.

Let's have milk and cookies instead! I'll dip your oreos and you can dip mine!

Seriously, in all reality I'm proud for the girl. But I think the girls that worked hard to win (it is sport after all) and played the game the right way all season long really got screwed on this deal.

But, they'll never speak up because they'll be drug through the mud.

  • Always gotta be someone, who speaks with foot squarely in mouth. Dont you think its somewhat refreshing in this day and age that truly the right thing was done? Yes work hard as you say in what we do, be it sports, business, work. But work even harder at being a good person. When we all pass on how do we want to be remembered? That we made so much money? Won a sports championship years ago? Or remembered as a good person with character? Im guessing the former for you the latter for everyone else

  • Such a tough situation to be in. You play the game to win, epecially at that point in the season. However, many of our youth forget the true meaning of sportsmanship. This was a life lesson, and a choice with consequences. Mallory and the SS showed true character. My son plays on a nationally ranked BB team, i would only hope he would show this type of sportsmanship.

  • Wow!!! What an awsome story.

  • oh yeah.....newsouthnews....you are a f*cking idiot and completely wrong. you may have played sports (as you claimed) but you obviously didnt learn anything about sportsmanship. go back to little league and try again

  • Newsouthnews..."According to page 105, rule 8.5.3.2 of the NCAA softball rule book, "If an injury to a batter-runner or runner prevents her from proceeding to an awarded base, the ball is dead and the substitution can be made. The substitute must legally touch all awarded or missed bases not previously touched." Theres the rule, she was awarded the bases because of the hit and even a sub could have ran the bases for her and the HR would have counted. The other team just helped her run them

  • According to Rule 12...which deals with baserunning...Section 3(a) and Section 4(o), if players touch another player while running the bases, the first offense requires the umpire to only give a warning and the next time it happens it is an out. So, her team could have carried her, if the umpire and the first base coach knew the rules better. It is illegal to touch the runner, but the outcome would only be a warning according to the rule book.

  • thank you !!!

  • You haven't lived enough left yet if you don't get the thrust of this story. Or maybe you live a very shallow life. Or you see trees instead of the forest. Be inspired by the magic of a team that could see beyond simply winning.

  • Ask the team how they felt after the cheering stopped and their eyes dried enough to see that they lost the game and the season was over.

I'm proud of Sara, but why keep score at all?

  • I would think they felt proud. They played their best, did the right thing, and lost to team that scored more runs.

    Simple as that.

  • They wouldnt have scored more runs if they wouldnt have helped her, though...thats the point.

  • NewSouthNews-

These kids are what's right about our future.

You are what's wrong about it.

We don't need to raise another fragile generation.

  • really ... why keep score !!!

  • not counting the homerun ... CWU still loses 3-2 ... the preceding 2 RBI's win the game for WOU 3-2

  • god you are fucking stupid. stay under your rock!

  • You, and people like you, are what's wrong with the world today. I am all about winning and playing your hardest, but what about compassion and selflessness. These two girls absolutely did the right thing and will always be remembered as great people instead of good softball players.

  • Reminds me of the coaches who told me to "just take the needle and get back in the game."

  • I'm all for compassion and selflessness, but what about the girls that played hard and end up losing because of Mallory and the SS?

  • nix the home run and they still lose 3-2

  • the 2 RBI's still count and WOU wins 3-2 over CWU regardless of the runner proceeding around the bases and scoring.

  • god you are a fuck!!!!

  • sut the fuck up.

  • What a great lesson, Don. Thanks for giving us a chance to learn it.

  • Nice job ladies!

  • Sweet!

  • GREAT STORY and a GREAT LESSON.. Thank you for sharing a true lesson in life!

  • Great video! I will definately be passing this on to a few teams out there. What a great, inspirational story!

  • Wow, Don. What a story!

  • such a sweet act by those 2 teammates

  • This is one of those things that you always hope you'd do in their shoes...way to do the right thing. It really is just a game, and what happened was much more important than the score.

  • This really defines Sportsmanship and winning. A lesson for everyone on on doing hte right thing.

  • This isnt sportsmanship...its an episode of Oprah.

  • What a tremendous inspiration. It's these little spontaneous moments that define us. Every once in a while, millions of variables in the universe line up to set up a kind of test - presenting us with a decision to make about what kind of person we really are. It's always awe-inspiring when the person being measured chooses to rise above the self and be extraordinary.
