Your videos are fantastic! I really appreciate a place to start in terms of how to selct a place to go, depths, to what to look for to start. THanks a ton!
@TheKingfisher90 there are a lot of baits that would work well. we like bucktail jigs and airplane jigs. sonars work well too. may i ask where you are planing on fishing? this may help me give you more options. i'm going to canada this week to fish for lakers myself. 50 pounds is the mark this year.
20 lbs hahahahahahahaha try 12-14 lbs. Still a very nice fish though. I don't know why people inflate the weight of their catches...they just look foolish.
@iheartmacncheez Really you can tell a 6-8lb difference just by a video that shows one side of it when he's holding it? dude pull your head out of your ass and get a fucking life.
Yes. Yes I can. When you've caught enough fish, you get pretty good at estimating their size within a pretty narrow tolerance. So...try again, you inbred redneck cousinhumper.
maybe you guys can help. im fishing a lake 525 acres max depth of 120 mean depth of 70 feet. cant catch any lakers, i accidentally catch them in a small adjacent lake in 10 feet of water when fishing for pickerel once or twice a year. cant catch a trout at any other time. how deep do i fish, how far down in the water do i fish, bait? any help will be greatly appreciated.
in the winter the lakers come up shallow and relate to underwater humps in a lot of inland lakes. try 30-50 feet possibly. you really want to look for any type of structure they may relate to. white plastic tube jigs have worked well for us while fishing in canada. they work well on the great lakes too.
i don't know what king of regulations are in place on the lake you are fishing, but if you can use some kind of cut bait on a bucktail jig that can be pretty effective as well. i know some of this info may not be greatly detailed but it's hard to get too specific without much knowledge of the body of water you are fishing.
lakers like feeding on oily bait fish because it's a high energy resource. If there are cisco, tulibee, or whitefish in the lake you may want to try finding them first. the lakers will be right there with them waiting to feed on those fish. i hope some of this may help. if you have more questions feel free to ask.
Nothing like Bobbing for lake Trout! I grew up on Lake Superior and Bobbing is very popular in the u.p. EH! We use mainly one ounce bucktail jigs tipped with sucker bait!
I have caught and released and caught and ate many Macks. If you are realeasing large Macks DO NOT TOUCH THERE HEAD OR GILLS AT ALL. Tail them through the hole or cut the line. If you stick your fingers in there gills after a fight you will kill them. 20 lb. fish are just starting to breed. That means you have killed breading stock by being extreamly careless. Signed the Mack Attack, Flaming Gorge Wyoming!
Beautiful fish man, congratulations. Was that a swimbait you were using? What kind, color, size, how did you rig it? Never thought of it before. It worked well obviously.
LOL this guy is soo canadian!! i love it cuz im canadian and i fucking love fishing too!! HOLLYYY SMOKKESS LOOK AT THAT TROOOT, GET EM BACK IN THE SHACK N LET EM GOO. nice fishh!
"Gebbu's" is what we use on superior when sometimes the fish are in 220 -300 feet of water...Just wooden circular objects with very high pound test ,sometimes steel line. VERY NICE FISH!
Steel line with a 10-20 foot mono leader is our favorite way to fish these deep water monsters! You can feel the slightest bump when you get the hang of it. The deepest we've fished is 250 feet. Have you ever fished deeper than 300? We've never heard of Gebbu's...that is a cool term...we've just known them as bobbin sticks or bobbin hoops. Any idea were the name Gebbu came from?
another great laker, i love it! love icefishing for lakers. I want more lol! You guys are the real deal. I have a hard time finding people to fish the way i do (before sun up, till after sun down). One question though, why were you using tip-ups in the tent. In Ny we can fish 5 tip-ups and two hand lines (jig poles) a person.
7 Lines per person!? That's awesome! With that many lines down things could get exciting real quick. Is that just on Lake Ontario or is that inland as well? We are allowed 3 total lines in Wisconsin and only 2 in Minnesota. It looks like we are using tip-ups by the way we are fighting these lake trout but really we are jigging them with wooden hoops wrapped with steel line.
That is the general regulation for all icefishing in NY. It does get exciting. Some days you have a flag and get one or two more while trying to land the first one. As for the wooden hoops and steel line, I have never seen that before. It obviously works lol. I would assume that the steel line is to get rid of the stretch in deep water. I had a problem with that this winter, we were fishing in 170FOW with dacron backing and 4lb mono leader on the tip ups. It was hard to get a good hookset
how old do u think that fish is? i caught a10 pound brown once and had a BBQ then i found out how old it was i will most likely never catch one that big again not were i live anyway nice release if i ever do catch another thats what ill do.
Lake Superior fisheries biologists estimate lake trout of this size to be 35-40 years old. It takes a Lake Superior lake trout 7 years to grow from an egg to 21-22 inches. Once they hit the upper 20 inch range they are lucky if they grow 1/4 inch per year. Great Question!!
i wish one day ill experience fishing like that :(no ice place like that in philippines......
