@Ulric291's comment. Unfortunately the mustang 4.6 was a fake dual. The exhaust laid out was headers to 2 cats, Y piped together into a muffler on the passenger side, then split out of the muffler into dual outlets. But with very little effort making them True Dual or Crossover wasn't difficult. Mustang was designed to have that.
@killerwhale187 What are you talking about? The Mustang GT (4.6) does not go into a y-pipe...not sure where you got that info. Get up under a stock 4.6 and you'll see what I mean.
@austin101385 They don't Y-pipe. What I mean is they go from the Cats to pipes, the pipes come together and go into a single muffler, Then they go back and split in front of the gas tank before the tail pipes.
I had a 4.6, I bent the piping and welded my own mufflers in place. That's what it was. 2 cats, 2 pipes, Come together into a Single Muffler. Now if you X-Piped em, Good for you, It does sound really good regardless.
@killerwhale187 No they don't, you're wrong. Either you had a V6(since they are the only ones from 95-2004) or you're talking out your ass. All GTs from 94-04 had headers that went to a factory h pipe with 4 cats, 2 between the bends in the pipe and the headers and 2 between the crossover and the bends. This then went into flow tubes, through the mufflers, and out the tails. Only V6's had the set up you are talking about.
@killerwhale187 thats what the v6's do lol but all of the GT's go from two headers to a catted h pipe to 2 mufflers through the back...the one muffler y pipe stuff is like firebirds and older camaro's
@killerwhale187 where the hell do you get your info? factory 4.6 mustangs come from manifold to an h-pipe to TWO separate mufflers! not ever did the 4.6 pipes ever come together. now on the v6's, they come from the manifolds to a y-pipe and go to one muffler.
I have a 2000 gt and i want to get an exhaust for it. What o/r x pipe do u have? I like the cobra like rumble u get from an o/r x pipe. Nice stang by the way.
@TheFuturemarine2010 Just google it...it is mostly appearance factors, and a few cobra parts (intake, brakes, suspension, etc)...I wouldn't say it is a lot faster than a gt...maybe a tad if compared stock to stock
@austin101385 I admire your honesty mate. I have a GT and have test drove a bullitt and didn`t really notice that much of a difference. The bullitt definately has, on paper more power though and if the truth be told, is a more desirable car .
@TheFuturemarine2010 that year gt had 260HP and I think the bullits had 305HP stock, but also some slight looks, and rarity it's getting harder to find bullits for sale, at least it is here.
oh sounds sick im looking into getting a bullitt or just a regular gt but i want the exhaust to have the famous rumble you hear on every other mustang
idk why you took away the popping. it sounds way better with it. i have a unresonated cat delete with a full exhaust and mushroom intake on my rsx, it pops like crazy.
The popping is actually from the copper cap I put in my IAC valve to drop my idle...I have it out now and there's no popping. It acts almost to choke the engine when throttle is let off (shifting or coming to a stop) to drop the rpms/idle
X-pipes increase your horsepower, but are too raspy and clappy for my tastes. Personally i'd throw and O/R H-Pipe on there and make that puppy REALLY purr. Sweet car
i'd swap out the mufflers for magnaflows or borlas. flowmaster just don't do it for me, plus they rob power with the chambers in the muffler. straight thru mufflers FTW.
@austin101385 yeah, i mean don't get me wrong its a nice sounding car bu i just prefer magnaflow or borla on a mustang. sounds better then a weedwacker civic.
@austin101385 Stick with Flowmasters. I've had Borlas and they didn't change power a bit. Borlas sound nice, but I like the tin, hollow sound of Flowmasters. Magnaflo sounds like over priced glass packs. Chambered mufflers really only hurt when going beyond naturally aspirated. I have a 1 chamber Flowmaster on my turbocharged 5.0 Mustang and it pumped out 444.6 horses to the wheels with stock heads. I doubt the muffler hurt power! Just sayin...
Supposedly super 44s are louder and deeper than the 40s series. And the super 44s are the same muffler as the super 40s except a smaller version of them...someone correct me if I'm wrong
@austin101385 i got the super 44 on my truck and love it. yeah you are right they made the super 44 to replace the super 40 its supposedly better all around but the 40 super 40 and super 44 are all very similar if you ask me. all sound different though
naw man i think the super 44s just do that alot i seen a 6.0 gto n his popped like that 2 and i have super 44s on my truck w a y-pipe :,( and it pops like that 2
thanks for the tip dude it really works. i used the 1/2" copper cap with the 3/16 hole on my '04 gt. now shifting from 1st to 2nd is super smooth and the popping sounds awesome.
5 hp difference is not correct. 15hp makes a whole lot more sense. Besides Tokico tuned and lowered suspension, and Cobra brakes, go fast goodies include, underdrive pullies, twin 57 mm throttle body, exlcusive bullitt upper and lower cast intake manifolds, and 20% improvement in exhaust flow including Arvin mufflers.
hey austin101385, Hey I was wondering if you knew the difference between the 44's and the 40's. I have a 1967 Mustang, which one would go best. I was going for the 44's and why does your car make a popping sound? I think it sounds pretty tight.
I had a wrangler with a 6 cyl and did about everything known to make it sound like a v8 muscle and the closest I got was a tractor...keep a v6 quiet unless you want it to sound ricey
Im running a 01 GT Silver Convertible with a Jegs o/r H pipe $140 with a set of these Super 44's ($92 a piece) sounds pretty aggresive! I do like the Original 40's Series Flowmaster with an X pipe Better than the H I plan on getting some SLP's!
To get a more deep and less metallic sound while driving. Some also say it's a little louder...but in the end I'd prefer more a deep muscle car than a higher pitched race car sound. Still sounds good though
mach1man22 I would go with a company that directly fits Headers with there fit short H or X pipe because it matches up better you dont want loose Horsepower over your pipes not fitting properly!!!
Damn I can only imagine what this thing would sound like with an H pipe. I'm trying to get Super 44s accompanied by an MRT H pipe, but can anyone tell me if there is the possibility of using this setup with a set of headers because almost every header company makes you buy their x pipe.
Used to have same setup nothings beats flowmaster

Flowmaster says: It is the most aggressive, deepest sounding, highest performing four inch case street muffler weve ever built! (super 44).
The popping is the side effect from the mod I did to get rid of my hanging rpms and make them fall really quick
