A Yamaha CFIIIS beats that crap out of any Steinway I've ever touched, from here to Warsaw and back..
Also, real pianists here might consider discarding the "discount brand" (Steinway), and consider purchasing a true piano - a Fazioli. Or, alternatively, a Bechstein or Bosendorfer.
Oh, the purists shall surely rail against me now! Well, I'll tell you no matter what you think of sound, the keybeds on Steinways were designed by 4 year-olds. They feel like crap! :D
@ORUPRANKSTAZ ...thats a lot of big talk bubba...if you had any inclination of quality pianos you would know the best pianos ever made were made in a place called "germany" from 1890 till1938...the pianos of today pale into insignificense...now run along retard....you tire me.
@ORUPRANKSTAZ Steinway & Son Grand piano cost alot more than a "Yamaha" because they sound so much better than any other piano I've ever played. Yamaha should stick to what they do best, making motorcycles.
@ORUPRANKSTAZ LOL! If you think ANY Yamaha sounds better than ANY Steinway on it's worst day and condition, you either have tin ears or have never heard or played a Steinway. Any expert will tell you a Bechstein, Bosendorfer, Steinway, Fazioli, etc. are infinitely better than a Yamaha.
this was considered the "golden era" for Steinway. So, that being said, today's Steinway pianos biggest competition are used Steinway pianos from this era. What a great video. be sure to watch The Making of a Steinway w/John Ratzenberger-Made In America.
a masterpiece before the notes are even played...

Very interesting.
Having toured a few piano factories (including Steinway) I enjoyed this old video.
The poster is right, although some processes are now done by machines, many of the steps of making a good piano are still done by hand.
