  • A metalhead like myself is extremely happy when i hear tunes like this :D

gotta find a copy of this game

  • I have both versions. The Sega CD version is missing a few colors, but the graphics are almost pixel for pixel identical to the Turbo Duo version. With my Turbo Grafx CD & Sega CD plugged into the same TV I was able to play to the same point in several stages and switch from one system to the other. You could almost not even tell the difference. It is sad that more games like this did not come out for the Sega CD.

  • without sounding like a total philistine,us poor folk could really do with a sweet "best of" megaCD and 32X compilation for the ps3,wii or xbox...

don't get me wrong,.i much prefer using the original hardware but it's too expensive and my MCD is on it's last legs.

wonder how hard it would be to get the licences? i mean..the pc engine version of this has already been ported to wii and surely hideokojima or konami would welcome some income from snatcher.

    spose it int that simple

  • @dannyofthededd Fortunately you can download Lords of Thunder on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. The Turbo Duo version of this game looked and sounded better anyway. You can download lot's of great Genesis titles on Virtual Console but as of yet there are no Sega CD games to download which kinda sucks.

  • What a sweet looking game, too bad it costs a fortune.

  • @salozmen29 Eh, I wouldn't say $60-70 is too pricy.

  • Armin van Buuren is the pilot of the vehicle used in this game.

  • This almost reminds me of Wings of Wor

  • that is some insane dodging

  • Honestly the game is MUCH better on the Turbografx. The music and graphics are better, it's a lot fairer in termes of difficulty, and everything is much neater overall.

  • Hi, Mike Varney called. He want's his CD collection back...

  • MY LORD THIS MUSIC ROCKS ASS!!!!!!!!!

  • People are so fucking whiney about this game it's unbelievable. I have both versions of it and there is not THAT big of a difference between the Sega CD and Turbografx versions other than difficulty.

  • The colors are horrible in this version. Turbo duo version is so much better. 64 colors just dont cut it for a duo game.

  • @123doomdoom with the Sega CD (which this game used), the console could have up to 256 colors on screen, not including various raster effects and shadowing tricks that can technically push it past ~1500 colors.

  • @Ehal256 If you say so

  • @123doomdoom well, they obviously didn't use those capabilities, I was just pointing it out

  • @Ehal256

    Actually

the sega cd could only display 64 out of 512 colors

  • @Alevamltd I thought it was 64 for the VDP, and another 64 for the Custom chip in the sega cd, at least.

  • @Alevamltd: Palette swaps, shadow and highlight mode, and a few other things made it possible overcome that limit, but it was seldom used. For instance, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had 75 or more colors on screen in some stages, utilizing mid-frame palette swap. To my knowledge only in-house Sega games ever accomplished these tricks.

  • damn it doesnt sound like this on my sega cd! Is this because of an emulator?

  • is the music really this low compared to the sfx? On real hardware I mean.

  • this music is badass.

  • You play like you made the game, I could imagine you talk on the phone, check your emails, and sip a cup of coffee all while playing this. I was looking on your page and I'm surprised you don't have videos with you playing a Gradius game or other R-Type games, those should be your next videos if you have time to play those.

  • your playing the crappy Sega Cd version? LAME.

  • @glovestrong48 better on Turbo-Duo :)

  • i tool asisted run by the man himself Yngwie malmsteen :p.

  • i have both version of this game and for me turbo duo is better

  • I smell TAS

  • ...This game is the most metal game.

  • I watched someone play through the TurboDuo version of this game, and honestly, I feel this version is the better one overall, in spite of being a bit less colourful.

The arrangements in this version are FAR superior overall to the original TurboDuo version, at least to my ears anyway. They sound clearer, and to me have more oomph to them.

  • "Irony" is the word that comes to mind as this game was a major selling point for the Turbo Duo in those "Johnny Turbo" ads.

Obviously, "Feka" won (I make this comment facetiously).

  • Since this port is generally considered inferior to the Turbo version, it could be considered a trojan horse. ;)

  • but how many own a pccd? it has some really stellar games on it but it's like a hand or 2 full,at least for me and this game does justice on it's own right,it's a bit less shreddy if i'm correct?.i prefer a sega cd to tgcd why maybe due to the graphics and more popular games tought where missing out tgcd greatness like sapphire and lords,i didnt care for dracula x at all,i liked Castelvania 4 and bloodlines betteer graphically and the total package.

  • yeah i remeber those adds how desperate where they,a laseractive would be nice once but the tgcd goodness is like saturn G...damn expensive saphire cost like 400 euro hmm for that i can buy a wii and wait for the tgcd games.

  • What's cool is that I have a LaserActive.

What's not so cool is the fact that I don't own a PAC-N10, so no TurboDuo for me, or at least not until I can buy one (which is VERY hard to do, considering that they're not common AND most LaserActive owners want one).

  • yeah i had a duo but i sold for proper reasons,1st i couldn't get many games for it since the best titels are rare and i couldn't stand the half bakes work on the system some games looked beyond 16 bit while others looked 8 bit ish,it is an expensive hobby thats the same reason i sold my neo geo.but i really had nothing with the tgcd it had sapphire that's what i remember but sega had games looking like that 2 so ikept it with my sega combo and the saturn.

  • @aryinc

    Oh, totally understandable.

It can get pretty expensive and/or frustrating (though this is true of virtually any hobby). It all boils down to its worth to you.

  • @Watcher3223

indeed 1st off it boils you off 2nd you'lle search for cheaper auctions like ports.i had a noe goe aes and cd.ngcd just plain sucked wth it's terrible load times and aes is an impossible hobby.noe geo aes is better then tgcd/tg16.both librarys had monotues games like pc enigne was a shooters system and aes was a fighters system it was all great but to pay 400 euro for sapphire or 440 euro for snk vs capcom or king of fighters,so i'd settled with the genesis it has best of both.

  • The PCE is an RPG system... and a digital comic system... and a sim system... and a war game system... and a dating system... It's got a great selection of most genres while still dominating so many categories.

There are many PCE games that are better than Sapphire for under $20. There are many Genesis/MD games that sell for hundreds to over a thousand dollars. That doesn't cancel out the remaining 99% of the library.

  • @superpcenginegrafx

you know what it is to live in europe without a creadit card? hell :p you can't get anything from england or the states for under the 30 euro shipping costs.i manage tought but it's patience that bothers me :p.

  • Most of the best PCE titles are super common and cheap. If you decide to get into it again, you should visit a PCE forum and get advice on which titles to buy.

  • @superpcenginegrafx

it is aslick system don't ya say?.terraforming on pc engine is also a great looking game.but on the moment money is money andi have what i have, offcourse i want i rad moblie arcade cabinet and a daytona arcade cvabinet and a jmc 800 amp and lot's of saturn games.i think let's finish thingspiece by piece tought i hate that there is no cheap way to get sapphire it's such a gem i had a bootlegg that didnt work tought.or maybe bruning but i'm not into that.

  • @superpcenginegrafx

it's nice to have both versions of this game once i have the tg16 version on the wii and it looks way better but i prefer this one for the remade music it's less shreddy if you know what i mean.

  • shit, this game is kick ass

  • behold the mighty lord of thunder power fart at 7:14

  • gotta...get...this...game

  • hell yeah man I agree wit jonnybaddazz from 4 31 to 4 36 was ridiculous , good $hit homie

  • technically this version is fairly superior than the TGFX CD, the sega cd have a more powerfull cpu so in this game more things are shown in screen at the same time, while the TGFXCD version shows less sprites at the same time on screen and suffers from sprite flickering due to the slower cpu, in the other hand the TGFXCD is more colorfull but the Sega CD still have the edge.

  • @copadera33 Bro, i suggest you do you research....the TGFX version has to fake parallax by using sprites as background objects (It has one background), where as sega cd has 2 backgrounds so it does not have to do that. Also, TG version may have slight flicker, but SCD version has slowdown, which distracts the player and if you play the hardest difficulty, there are revenge bullets that cover the screen.

  • @123doomdoom Mega Cd version also has flicker, specially in Boss stages, but also in some stage backgrounds. It seems the Mega CD port uses sprites instead of background layers. Yeah, it is really weird, but perhaps this development team did not had enough knowledge or time to do a better version. Anyway, Mega CD version is easier for me, I managed to complete all selectable levels, something I could not do in TGFX versino

  • Music reminds me about some capcom vs something :o

  • Dude you are fucking good at this game. I don't know how you can dodge all that stuff. Good job.

  • It's weird coming from the Turbo Duo port to this one. The sword does much more damage in this version. It really changes the gameplay IMO.

  • This game seems fun. Wish there was a remake or something.

  • Ok man that part and 4:31 to 4:36..that shit was sick..much respect
