This Captain´s action, alived us of theese reminds of the past, In which planes with problems had no solution, and aerial circunstances never ended as we wanted. Thanks, Chesley Sullenberger.
What I admire the most is the calmness and confidence in the Captains voice while he is talking to F/O and atc at the same time. "unable... We'll be in the Hudson." If Im not mistaken another aircraft had to reasure atc "he said he'll be in the Hudson" lol! Big high five to both pilots!
Aside from the obvious miracle that happened, Did you notice that the controller called the plane everything from 1549 to 1539 to 1529... The stress creeping into to a highly stressful event.
Sully had it VERY EASY, he had no turbulance, no rain, and visibilty (landscape and 2 eyes). Want so se Real Hero Pilot, type on the words "taca airlines 110" and watch.
This Captain landed in wet grass (came out of the rainclouds after gliding IFR. Came out of the rain cloudsat about 900 feet agl, did a perfect left gliding turn, aligned, dropped gear and full flaps, gliding turn it perfectly, avoided ditching in the Lake.. NOW who is better?
Great. Now let's all watch the simulations from the black-boxes of the four 9/11 planes that performed so many astonishing gymnastics that fateful day.
What's that you say? Half of the eight black-boxes couldn't be found and the other half were damaged beyond recovery?!
Are you serious? Not a single black-box of any use after America's "worst disaster"? Wow! Let's hope someone got sacked for making truly crap hardware.
Or else for lying to the public through their teeth!
Luck didn't land the plane, Knowledge did. If you loose all power you must point you nose down to maintain sufficient airspeed than you have to see what is available for a landing strip. There was no possible way to turn back to the airport or to be rerouted to a different airport because the A320 is not a high performance glider. If you land slow enough and keep your wings absolutely level. This is what will happen!
Wow if you don't know what happened you need to stop playing cod and cussing at five year old kids from australia for at least 5 minutes a day, and possible pick up a news paper. And no its not a conspiracy. Geese aren't going to be the next terrorists. I promise
In the dictionary under "Professional" they will have Capt. Sullenberger's picture: (Every response so utterly calm): 4:43 "we're unable, we may end up in the Hudson" 5:06 (tower: it's gonna be runway...) Sully: "unable" 5:56 (tower: you can land at Teterboro) Sully: "We can't do it" 5:58 (tower:OK which runway would you like at Teterboro?) Sully : We're gonna be in the Hudson.
Give that man the Nobel prize in "Chill under pressure"...

Why does the air traffic control personal keeps calling this flight as # 1529 when he just gave clearance orders to flight 1549 a minute ago... how can he make such horrible error under these severe conditions.
All air traffic controllers have a radar screen with all aircraft in the vicinity is listed with flight ID #. A few times a day, within NYC's airports, there are similar looking flight numbers and numbers that are close to the flight number of another aircraft within the area.. strange.
I never flew in a plane before and im 13 so I dont claim to be a plane expert but a pilot told me that had Captain Sullenberger turned around within one minute of the bird strike he could of landed safley back at the airport and saved the very expensive plane. Why isnt this ever talked about?
@duncan7599 Straight off wikipedia:The NTSB ran a series of tests using Airbus simulators in France to see if Flight 1549 could have returned safely to LaGuardia. The simulation started immediately following the bird strike and
@duncan7599 "knowing in advance that they were going to suffer a bird strike and that the engines could not be restarted, four out of four pilots able to turn the A320 back to LaGuardia and land on Runway 13"When the NTSB later imposed a 30 second delay before they could respond,in recognition that it wasnt reasonable to expect a pilot to assess the situation and react instantly, all 4 pilots crashed
@mightyjammyd123 seriously enough with dissing the dislikes. if everybody on that flight had a youtube account i'd doubt they would dislike this video. they would like it because they survived with the skills and experience from the pilot.
I would lik to give praise to Captain Sullenberger, his first officer, the cabin crew and air traffic control for saving all those people. Well done!!

very informative animation and good decisions made by the captain he right away knew that he could not chance it and attempt to return to any airport maybe the only good luck he did indeed have was that that big river just happenned to be there in front of him if that would of not been available this flight could of ended tragicaly
@ 3:40 The birds screaming "AAAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!", then Kenny Loggins crooning "HIGHWAY TO THE DANGER ZONE!!!!" over the intercom and Tom "What a Dreamboat" Cruise takes over the controls! I bet "Maverick" would have been able to take the plane safely back to LaGuardia, he is SUCH a hero! HE can go right into the danger zone.
this is EXACTLY why you fly with the majors, with highly trained, alert pilots. Beware of anything Comair/Colgan, staffed by amateurs often with the FO having no direct experience operating the plane in question. Keep in mind the Colgan flight that dropped into a house on account of pulling *up* into a stall...killing all 50 on board...less than a month away from this incident.
There's no replacement for skilled, careful pilots.
actually captain sulley just had the perfect conditions for an emergency like this. If there had been a thick fog or overcast, he would've been doomed. In my book, this is textbook luck.
@cyro8 The only "textbook luck" is the kind that happens when you're ready to take advantage of it, and Sully was someone who spent 42 years getting ready for it, training hard, investigating accidents, working the simulators, doing a LOT of emergency drills, and training others for emergencies. He made sure he was ready, and that was NOT luck. That was hard work and a lot of skill.
For the rest of you, this is a specially made 3D animated reconstruction, not a game or simulator.
@cyro8 cyro8 when you play Dungeons & Dragons with your nerd friends is your character’s name Chuck Yeager? Seriously, what are your qualifications for your dubiously sage assertion of “In my book, this is textbook luck”? How many thousands of hours have YOU spent in the cockpit of an Airbus 320 or jet engine aircraft? I am talking about actual flying, not cleansing and scouring it which is probably your occupation.
@cyro8 I strongly suspect that Captain Sullenberger was flying aircraft when the best part of you was sliding down the crack of your mama’s derriere and ended up as a brown stain on the bed sheet. Also, what exactly is “textbook luck”? I Googled that hitherto unheard of adjective/noun combination and could find nothing on Google about it at all.
@cyro8 Further, in life, I have found that when someone like Captain Sullenberger accomplishes something remarkable, there is always at least one trilobite like yourself that sticks his beak in with a downbeat statement to diminish the aforementioned person’s extraordinary feat.
@cyro8 Now why don’t you go back to flying your Mattel Vertibird as you smoke your crack or meth or whatever it is on which you appear to be tripping. Lastly, in the future when you are considering making a statement, you would probably do well to heed the message of the following Chinese proverb that clearly applies to you so well; “Better to be thought of as a fool, than to opens one’s mouth (or in your case, write a comment) and remove all doubt”.
That is really amazing 3d rendering, and of course fantastic team work. That flight crew definitely deserves all the credit they were given for safely landing that plane.
Amazing that there were no major injuries... Just amazing
Sullenberg wasn't flying the airplane at takeoff... nice job on BOTH pilots parts, people forget that a copilot was there, I would rather shake the hand of Jeff Skiles than Sully... just for the simple reason everyone gives credit to the Captain when there's two pilots in the flight deck.
If you listen and read what the captian and first officer are doing, it is team work here. That is why the first officer is called a "co-pilot." It wasn't just Captian Sully that brought this plane to a safe "landing." FO Skiles helped out an awful lot here. And in an interview Captian Sully said he could hear the flight attendants doing there job, taking care of the passengers and knew everyone was on the same page at that point.
How do you dislike this? sure, it's an animation. But could those of you who disliked the video have the composure and professionalism to ensure the safety of 100-some passengers?
The ATC controller seemed to be oblivious that they were ending up in the Hudson and lost radar contact with the aircraft. I'm just saying, no hate intended.
As ssoon as the captain told him he had lost thrust in both engines, he was VERY aware of how grave the situation was. He stayed calm and professional while he hwas hyperfocused. He was so upset about it afterward he was off work for a MONTH. He was torn up the whole time he was talking to 1549; a few times you can hear his voice catch. His testimony before Congress is here on Youtube.
Wow, jesus christ, those poor birds, can you imagine anything more horrible? Must have been like that guy in the beginning of Lost that got sucked into an engine. That's gotta be a crappy way to die, minding your own business, enjoying flying and BAM hit my a freaking plane.
Wow, jesus christ, those poor bird, can you imagine anything more horrible? Must have been like that guy in the begining of Lost that got sucked into an engine. That's gotta be a crappy way to die, minding your own buisness, enjoying flying and BAM hit my a freaking plane.
Airline Pilots are trained to keep an even voice, never to show any negative emotions like fear, etc. It is part of the job, keep passengers calm, even if you are so scared that are taking bad decisions or flying bad. I teach Forced Landings on take off to all my students, never skip them. I had pilots with great voices, making huge Panic Mistakes, to the point i have to take over to save myself.
The Captain of that flight is a HERO! All it would have taken for absolute disaster is for a single wing to graze the water a second or two earlier then . . . only death would have emerged.
The next edition of Angry Birds should be dedicated to the crew of 1549, they LITERALLY conquered a flock of birds angrily coming their way

very informative animation and good decisions made by the captain he right away knew that he could not chance it and attempt to return to any airport maybe the only good luck he did indeed have was that that big river just happenned to be there in front of him if that would of not been available this flight could of ended tragicaly

HE can go right into the danger zone.
dhfun1 1 year ago
this is EXACTLY why you fly with the majors, with highly trained, alert pilots.

In my book, this is textbook luck.
cyro8 1 year ago
@cyro8 The only "textbook luck" is the kind that happens when you're ready to take advantage of it, and Sully was someone who spent 42 years getting ready for it, training hard, investigating accidents, working the simulators, doing a LOT of emergency drills, and training others for emergencies. He made sure he was ready, and that was NOT luck. That was hard work and a lot of skill.
For the rest of you, this is a specially made 3D animated reconstruction, not a game or simulator.
dcs002 1 year ago
@cyro8 cyro8 when you play Dungeons & Dragons with your nerd friends is your character’s name Chuck Yeager? Seriously, what are your qualifications for your dubiously sage assertion of “In my book, this is textbook luck”? How many thousands of hours have YOU spent in the cockpit of an Airbus 320 or jet engine aircraft? I am talking about actual flying, not cleansing and scouring it which is probably your occupation.
ErieBoy62 1 year ago
@cyro8 I strongly suspect that Captain Sullenberger was flying aircraft when the best part of you was sliding down the crack of your mama’s derriere and ended up as a brown stain on the bed sheet. Also, what exactly is “textbook luck”? I Googled that hitherto unheard of adjective/noun combination and could find nothing on Google about it at all.
ErieBoy62 1 year ago
@cyro8 Further, in life, I have found that when someone like Captain Sullenberger accomplishes something remarkable, there is always at least one trilobite like yourself that sticks his beak in with a downbeat statement to diminish the aforementioned person’s extraordinary feat.
ErieBoy62 1 year ago

TheBobafett13 1 year ago
Sullenberg wasn't flying the airplane at takeoff... nice job on BOTH pilots parts, people forget that a copilot was there, I would rather shake the hand of Jeff Skiles than Sully... just for the simple reason everyone gives credit to the Captain when there's two pilots in the flight deck.

WOW HOPE ALL PILOTS ARE THIS CALM
policematrix 1 year ago
If you listen and read what the captian and first officer are doing, it is team work here. That is why the first officer is called a "co-pilot." It wasn't just Captian Sully that brought this plane to a safe "landing." FO Skiles helped out an awful lot here. And in an interview Captian Sully said he could hear the flight attendants doing there job, taking care of the passengers and knew everyone was on the same page at that point.

The ATC controller seemed to be oblivious that they were ending up in the Hudson and lost radar contact with the aircraft. I'm just saying, no hate intended.
iwantpk2 1 year ago
@iwantpk2
Look for "Patrick Hartin"

Wow, jesus christ, those poor birds, can you imagine anything more horrible? Must have been like that guy in the beginning of Lost that got sucked into an engine. That's gotta be a crappy way to die, minding your own business, enjoying flying and BAM hit my a freaking plane.
