  • I can't take the concerns of anyone seriously when they say they are trying to protect children from harm and then attack them as "robots," dehumanizing and insulting young children on purpose. Mean, awful people. There's no defense for behavior like that, and the anti-CI community sounds like a bitter, awful place to live.

  • @s13rr4buf3 you mention 'I can't take the concerns of anyone seriously' huh thats a childish comment you've made so grow up

  • @goodtube77 How it that childish? I don't take lots of people seriously. They don't do anything to earn my respect, or they do things to ensure that I can't respect them (like try to emotionally bludgeon little children for being different than them).

  • @s13rr4buf3 go grow up and stop being a childish, I have reveive so many negative comments over cochlear implant they don't work

  • @s13rr4buf3 mmm! My view of concern is that cchlear implant doesn't work for someone who born deaf but it good for anyone who become deaf it sometimes work. But surely it cost a lots of money to invent CI I rather buy 5 cars than CI????

  • @thegapshow "implant doesn't work for someone who born deaf" It would certainly seem to hold more chance for "working" (which would seem to cover a range of potential benefit) if you start off young, while the child's brain is still developing. So it's a bit baffling to see people say that no child should have the option of implantation until the age of 18! That seems to reflect a mean-spirited wish that it should never work for anyone born deaf, even if they would prefer to have the option.

  • @s13rr4buf3 Have your say, But oh yes I rather buy cars or houses than CI

  • And yes, I would trade 500 cars to see, or hear, or read and write, or walk, or enjoy food, etc, if I believed it was important to my quality of life (and that is a very personal determination, to be sure). It's just money. What else is it good for? Buying diamonds? If you have an important enough reason to want a lot of money, it's possible to get it. It's healthy to have long-term aspirations to stretch for anyway. A PhD costs probably as much and might improve your life less.

I think the answer to this, as with everything else, is that CI works for some people and not others. And of course there are situations where there's good to be able to hear, and others where it's better to be able to not hear.

As with the look of a CI, it kind of gives you that chic cyborg look which is kind of cool (the future is here!)

I don't think the real reason for the CI is to make deaf people less isolated from us, but to make hearing people less isolated from you :)

  • I'm a heary and am trying to understand the controversy of the CI. I feel like I'm starting to understand, although it's sometimes difficult for me to get information from the deaf perspective because so many of the video's are in American Sign Language, when I only know tidbits of the Icelandic sign language. (So if you like to reach a broader audience with your message, maybe put subtitles?)

There are hearing people out there who really want to know your point of view :)

    (continue next.)

  • To all of you who are `pro choice`for the CI.....as a mother of a newly implanted 5 year old who is doing extremely well and is still a very happy little girl....who are you to tell a child that if the technology exhists to give them the chance to have the wonderous gift of hearing, and it truly is as those of us who are hearing take it for granted no doubt...that they CANNOT have it...until they are young adults and their speech has already developed and it is that much harder.

  • Cochlea Implant is a waste of money and waste of time cos it never work and it making them like a ROBOT

  • @goodtube77 You have GOT to be kidding. "It never works?" "Like a robot?" What world are you living in?

  • @s13rr4buf3 of course it never work and it a waste of money to invent it, My friend who been implant install few years ago but now he say wish it never happen. WE'RE LIVING IN ONE SAME WORLD ALRIGHT

  • @goodtube77 "of course it never work" -- Is English not your first language? Why don't you punctuate and use correct syntax? Are you poorly educated? I also don't see your logic at all, because obviously, cochlear impants DO work very well almost all of the time, including the two that my father has. You don't seem to make any sense whatsoever.

  • @s13rr4buf3 YOUR COMMENT BULLSHIT COCHLEAR IMPLANT IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND MOST PEOPLE CALL IT HALF HUMAN HALF ROBOT THAT NOT MY IDEA ALRIGHT SHUT YOUR GOB

  • yes i agree with you ya but i think it should 16+, because some people need practice with it for while long, and it cant be forced with parent, only deaf person that s/he want it or not that all.

  • I partly agree. Some ppl chose to have CI, mostly based on their low-self image and lies feeding by hearies. I agree completely that kids under age of 18 shall not get CI. I had a student in my class giving a lecture about his experience. He was forced to get CI under 18. As adult, he spent with his own money to have it removed! I heard another story that a teenager begged his parents not to put CI on him. His parents didn't respect and did pay for CI to be put on him. He was crying.

  • I agree but until age 18+ decide (choice) CI that all.

  • Against CI? I agree! but until age 18+ that decide (choice) CI., that all.

  • world Guinness, language speed..? what? ASL!!
