See, what you've done there, is taken a perfectly good Hilux, which could have been used by somebody more sensible for off-roading or as a workhorse, and added a whole lot of chrome trim and some stupid, shiny wheels. What a waste of a good vehicle.

@dude27881 the ford ranger you're talking about will pass US emissions, its road legal in europe which has stricter emissions standards...its all about marketing and saving the big three and their thirsty trucks, the US market also demands powerful engines which these small diesels arent, they'll get the job done but not in a hurry unless chipped

well, i love my petrol engine. Diesel is good and ok but they are not so quick in acceleration. I own a ford ranger 2.3L 4 cylinder non turbo (0-62 in 7.2 sec.). I did some tuneup things in it and believe me i smoke all kind of turbo diesel pickups each day. Beside that i have also a ford lightning 5.4L V8 supercharge (0-62 in 5.0 sec.). I love my american made. I often do dragracing with my GMC syclone. I love speed.
I have been a petrol head for years - of the Japanese variety. But I have to say ever since I started kitesurfing these beasts are looking more and more appealing to me every day (lowered suspension and easy access to beaches in ireland are almost mutually exclusive). Your machine is gorgeous - and I am going to have to swallow my pride and say my next vehicle will be a diesel 4 x 4, although I think I will still have to pump up the stereo to cover the sound of the engine! Best of luck with it.
@wasabiwankenobi Diesel mate is a million times better then petrol, anyone that has a diesel will tell you its much better,, never again will i go back to petrol,, the power of diesel is just something else,, trust me is you get diesel make sure you get the TDI Chip, ^^ then let a petrol come near you,, ha some chance of him seen your dust,,
thing with petrol is you have to be a lot more careful with it in auxilary tanks and the like or in the back of trays as it has lower combustion temp than diesel. the other thing is a diesel normally goes for about 500000 km before she even thinks of giving up. petrol you lucky at 300000km with a few exceptions of course. Gotta say, i'd love to see how a massive f250 or one of those monstors goes on a beach with lose soft sand or a narrow bush trail. By the way nice lux.

@ClipperGoodwill yes my friend Diesel is the way to go, i see alot of guys talking about there big (GAS) petrol 4x4's and been honest id have no interest in something like that,,some people here is IRELAND has imported trucks from the US, lol and the only time i ever see them is in the petrol station, i love the Ford F450 it looks like the size of a monster,

Not only in Trinidad you have vigo, nissan etc etc. Here in Suriname (South-America) where i live, you will find alot of those same trucks, like toyota vigo, nissan navara, mitsubishi, isuzu, dodgeram, titans, chevrolet etc. Every weeks honderds of these japanese and american vehicle comes in.

@javabaja You're comparing apples to oranges. The Dodge Ram HD diesel produces 650 pound feet of torque. If you're going to tow, you're going to use a diesel most of the time....

@schwanzmannn HAHAHA... you'd never be able to go anywhere in Australia!! We have 600-1000km (and more) between gas stations in some areas! (and the road is dirt/sand so low speed, high fuel consumption).
And in some areas, if you run out of fuel, you die.
US trucks would never make it from A to B in Australia... that's why we don't buy them!
In Australia, low fuel consumption and high torque is best. That's why the Hilux D4D 4 cylinder diesel engine is so awesome for us.

Even with the Toyota Hilux D4D 3l turbo diesel, you still want about 250-300litres of diesel to do some runs. That's a huge amount of fuel. 66-80 gallons
I dread to think how much petrol you'd need to carry for a big yank V8 petrol engine on the same trip.
I guess my point is, long distance low speed on sand - you need torque and little weight. 4cyl Diesel is best.

well, i love my petrol engine. Diesel is good and ok but they are not so quick in acceleration. I own a ford ranger 2.3L 4 cylinder non turbo (0-62 in 7.2 sec.). I did some tuneup things in it and believe me i smoke all kind of turbo diesel pickups each day. Beside that i have also a ford lightning 5.4L V8 supercharge (0-62 in 5.0 sec.). I love my american made. I often do dragracing with my GMC syclone. I love speed.

I have been a petrol head for years - of the Japanese variety. But I have to say ever since I started kitesurfing these beasts are looking more and more appealing to me every day (lowered suspension and easy access to beaches in ireland are almost mutually exclusive). Your machine is gorgeous - and I am going to have to swallow my pride and say my next vehicle will be a diesel 4 x 4, although I think I will still have to pump up the stereo to cover the sound of the engine! Best of luck with it.

@wasabiwankenobi Diesel mate is a million times better then petrol, anyone that has a diesel will tell you its much better,, never again will i go back to petrol,, the power of diesel is just something else,, trust me is you get diesel make sure you get the TDI Chip, ^^ then let a petrol come near you,, ha some chance of him seen your dust,,

thing with petrol is you have to be a lot more careful with it in auxilary tanks and the like or in the back of trays as it has lower combustion temp than diesel. the other thing is a diesel normally goes for about 500000 km before she even thinks of giving up. petrol you lucky at 300000km with a few exceptions of course. Gotta say, i'd love to see how a massive f250 or one of those monstors goes on a beach with lose soft sand or a narrow bush trail. By the way nice lux.

Would love to see this in the US. I recently visited my family in Trinidad and was floored at how advanced and refined the Hilux is compared to the similar Tacoma we get here. And we don't get any Toyota diesels at all

@ClipperGoodwill yes my friend Diesel is the way to go, i see alot of guys talking about there big (GAS) petrol 4x4's and been honest id have no interest in something like that,,some people here is IRELAND has imported trucks from the US, lol and the only time i ever see them is in the petrol station, i love the Ford F450 it looks like the size of a monster,
any ways thanks for the comment and hope Toyota puts Diesel in the US, ( soon )

Not only in Trinidad you have vigo, nissan etc etc. Here in Suriname (South-America) where i live, you will find alot of those same trucks, like toyota vigo, nissan navara, mitsubishi, isuzu, dodgeram, titans, chevrolet etc. Every weeks honderds of these japanese and american vehicle comes in.

@tommy23i Nowadays, fuel efficiency technology has allowed them to tow up to 40,000 while using as much fuel as a minivan. Besides, what are you going to do when the Hilux isn't strong enough to tow something?

@schwanzmannn Quick tip... a 3.0 diesel (without a supercharger) can produce more torque (required for towing) than a 5liter petrol...

@javabaja You're comparing apples to oranges. The Dodge Ram HD diesel produces 650 pound feet of torque. If you're going to tow, you're going to use a diesel most of the time....

@schwanzmannn HAHAHA... you'd never be able to go anywhere in Australia!! We have 600-1000km (and more) between gas stations in some areas! (and the road is dirt/sand so low speed, high fuel consumption).
And in some areas, if you run out of fuel, you die.
US trucks would never make it from A to B in Australia... that's why we don't buy them!
In Australia, low fuel consumption and high torque is best. That's why the Hilux D4D 4 cylinder diesel engine is so awesome for us.

@schwanzmannn Hmmm... yes true, but honestly I'd prefer to carry less weight, especially when travelling long distances on sand.
Even with the Toyota Hilux D4D 3l turbo diesel, you still want about 250-300litres of diesel to do some runs. That's a huge amount of fuel. 66-80 gallons
I dread to think how much petrol you'd need to carry for a big yank V8 petrol engine on the same trip.
I guess my point is, long distance low speed on sand - you need torque and little weight. 4cyl Diesel is best.

@arachn1dinshoe You're making it sound like American trucks are only available in v8's. There are over 7 different models by GM, Isuzu, Dodge, Mazda, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota that offer 4,5,and 6 cyl engines.

i was planing to buy one but i find back seat seem uncomfortable not enough padded if you going for long trip say 5-6 hours trip you would be back aching
and the head rest is below your shoulder if you are 6ft tall sitting in back seat
